"Traded in a Mercedes for a Ford Pinto"
Pros: Lightweight and comfortable handset
Cons: Uniden downgraded all the features
Summary: I had a 3-handset 2.8 gig Uniden system full of features. Terrific product whose only issue was interference from my computer and microwave.
Then I bought a 5.8 gig Uniden, this time with answering machine. The answering machine is terrific, and I have no complaints.
Yesterday I purchased the above model, but the one that comes with an answering machine. The answering machine works well, except for one quirk: You can set it to allow greeting only, or let people record for "1 minute" or "4" minutes. This is stupid. If you want to allow a bit of extra time, why not anything in between? Choosing 4 minutes, if used by callers, will allow fewer than 4 messages to be left, since the total capacity is a measly 14 minutes.
But the entire system has me burning up. The 2.8 had a three-line display that gave the day and date, as well as the ability to see the elapsed time of any call. NOT ON THE 6.0!
The 2.8 had 10 songs and 10 ringtones available. NOT ON THE 6.0, where there are 4 songs and 3 tones. Why?
There are many other features missing, but the most important, and the one that astounds me the most, is that THERE IS NO SPEED DIAL!!!!
As for using the phone, on the first two calls I made, I disconnected both because my cheek hit the hang-up button! What a poor placement. I don't even have high cheekbones!
On the positive side, the sound quality of the handset and the answering machine are very good, which is why I didn't give it a "3". The only feature I didn't have on the 2.8 was a regularly beeping phone when there are voice messages. This is very helpful for me.
I am seriously considering returning this whole mess to Costco, where it was purchased.
Once you get used to the features, whether it's a car, phone, or whatever, the obvious cheapening of something that is supposed to have newer technology and more and better features is frustrating and maddening. Shame on Uniden.

I was going to write my own review about this phone but you nailed it. I had a Uniden Tru 8885 (5.8GHz) and loved it but started having battery issues and figured it was time to upgrade.
I couldn't believe that the time wasn't displayed and that the speed dial went away. The ringer was also very low, even on the hightest setting.
I just purchased the Uniden 3080-3 and the clock and volume issues are fixed. It's a slick phone but it looks like we'll have to give up speed dial for a while since it looks like none of the new phones come with it.
