The Bottom Line As an executive sports touring car, the 2006 BMW M6 excels in every category, except perhaps styling. The transmission and chassis settings have learning curves, but the reward is effortless speed and control. The 2008 BMW M6 is a car that can only really be appreciated on the track. Its cabin electronics make it suitable for everyday driving, but its fuel economy keeps it from being practical. The 2009 Nissan GT-R is a technical tour de force, with evidence of brilliance throughout. We would have a hard time with the GT-R as an everyday driver, but it offers fun and exhilaration at heart-stopping levels. The 2008 BMW M3 is a tame lion. It's easy to handle among traffic and urban driving, while ferocious on the track or out in the hills. Its cabin electronics are among the best available. The 2008 Audi R8 is a serious blast to drive on the right roads and would be incredible on the track, but we recommend going with the manual transmission to make it more drivable in everyday circumstances. The cabin electronics work well enough but aren't cutting edge.
