"Driving Machine for the Purist"
Pros: Cool & unique styling. Great acceleration & braking. Superb handling. Nice thick steering wheel. Driving position is great.
Cons: Clutch delay problem (CDV) that causes unavoidable jerkiness on the 1-2 shift. Poor stereo system. Weak exhaust note.
Summary: So far I've driven my '07 Z4 M Coupe as a daily driver, and have put 9,000 miles on it. I have put the car through it's paces and still love it! The M Coupe is fine as a daily driver, as long as you don't travel more than about an hour at a time. PROS(6): *Styling is unique, and reminds me of a contemporary version of a classic 50's Euro sport coupe. #1 Great acceleration #2 Superb handling #3 Very powerful brakes #4 Steering wheel, seat, pedals, gear shift are all in great positions. #5 M steering wheel is very thick and as crazy as this sounds, it's awesome! CONS(3): #1 I rate the clutch a 6 out of 10, and has a known issue. The car has a CDV (clutch delay valve) that makes the car difficult to drive smoothly. The 1-2 shift is near impossible to do smoothly. When you left off the clutch after changing to 2nd gear, it delays engagement for a split second, causing the car to jerk. I drove a '02 Z3 M Coupe and the clutch is 100% better, with no jerkiness and shorter throws. Granted, it's a different call all together but we are talking BMW here, get it right! All other manual transmission cars I have driven have not had this clutch delay right after you engage it. There is a modified CDV that you can buy that I would like to have installed to see if it fixes the problem. #2 Sound system is laughable for BMW. #3 Exhaust note could be louder, and better. CONCLUSION: I love my M Coupe, and would totally do it all over again. The clutch issue is livable however I will try the modified CDV so see if that improves it. The poor sound system sucks, but that's not what this car is all about anyways. The car is tons of fun though, I do recommend it!
