Toyota enters the revitalized U.S. market for small and inexpensive cars with its 2007 Toyota Yaris, a model name that has appeared in Europe since 2000. But the 2007 Yaris, both the U.S. and European version, is a serious upgrade from the previous non-U.S. version. It uses Toyota's new styling, evidenced in its round nose, and has all of Toyota's strong build quality.

But this car is also designed to hit a rock-bottom price. Our test car, a three-door hatchback model (a sedan model is also available), has a base price of $10,950. Unfortunately, gadget fans won't find much to entertain them in a car designed for this low-end segment. Our Yaris had the $1,290 Power Package, which included a decent-sounding audio system with an MP3/WMA single-CD slot and an auxiliary input jack.

The power train is similarly basic in the 2007 Toyota Yaris, with the engine being its technology high point. The 1.5-liter four-cylinder power plant uses Toyota's VVT-I intelligent variable-valve timing and electronic throttle control. The five-speed manual is nothing to write home about; an equally unexciting four-speed automatic is available as well. Active safety equipment, such as traction control and even antilock brakes, is also sacrificed to keep the price in the bargain basement.

Although we focus on tech here at CNET, we found that the 2007 Toyota Yaris's low-tech nature does make it fun to drive, with a bit of hooliganism thrown in. For more normal purposes, it's comfortable enough for a commute and functional enough for errands around town, although it doesn't offer the luxury of navigation. It falls short in many departments for road or weekend trips. In this era of high gas prices, its fuel economy will be a welcome relief.

At this price level, the 2007 Toyota Yaris doesn't offer much in the way of cabin gadgets. However, Toyota has managed to keep the interior from looking cheap. The manually adjustable front seats are comfortable, and the cloth feels soft but tough. Fit and finish on the dashboard seem solid, and the materials have a nice texture. But an inexpensive build means less sound insulation, as we recorded 73 decibels during our sound-level check.

Toyota creates an interesting configuration for A/C and vent controls in the Yaris.

The instrument cluster--what there is of it--is centrally mounted on the dash. This arrangement makes it harder to monitor the speedometer, but this car doesn't go all that fast. The speedometer has a nice electroluminescent look, and a small LCD with a paper-white background sits to the right of it, displaying fuel level and trip information. These are nice touches on a down-market car.

The stereo fills a double-DIN slot at the top of the stack. Interestingly, the spec sheets say that without the Power Package, the Yaris merely comes prepped for a stereo, so expect a gaping hole in the dash. This is also a very aftermarket-friendly dash, with a size suitable for some pretty swanky head units. The stereo included in our test car had a single-CD slot that played MP3 and WMA discs. The controls make it easy to navigate folders and tracks, and the display shows ID3-tag information. An auxiliary jack behind the shifter allows for an MP3 player.

ALT TEXT
An auxiliary stereo input and light-kit button sit on the floor near the stick shift.

The audio quality in the 2007 Toyota Yaris is not bad, due to the fact that the seating position is high and the four speakers are set near floor level. This arrangement keeps any one seat from being blasted by one speaker, with the sound welling up from below. It's not really immersive, but there's some clarity at average volumes. Higher volumes ruin the quality quickly.

As expected, navigation, Bluetooth, and voice command are not offered on the Yaris. But Toyota has used the space left over by the lack of electronics creatively, putting odd little compartments everywhere. It has a glove box, as well as a compartment above the glove box. There is also a similar-size compartment above and behind the steering wheel, along with one in the lower dash by the driver's left knee. Other little cubbyholes can be found on either side of the stack.

ALT TEXT
The Yaris includes some unexpected storage compartments, such as this odd hatch behind the steering wheel.

This penchant for storage is also shown in the cargo area of the hatchback Yaris. With the rear seats up, there is space for a few grocery bags. But when these seats are folded flat, the cargo area becomes fairly large--which is good because the seats don't offer much people room. Legroom is cramped in the rear, even with the front seats fairly far forward.

Our test Yaris came with one other interesting touch: a $275 interior-illumination kit. This kit amounts to a couple of blue LEDs mounted in a pan just in front of the stick. While relatively simple, the effect is cool.

With its simple five-speed manual transmission and small size, the 2007 Toyota Yaris will be fun for people who like to thrash cars around. The power train isn't as peppy as the one on the 2007 Honda Fit, but with good rev control, the Yaris can be pushed around in an entertaining manner.

The engine is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder with double overhead cams and Toyota's electronically controlled variable-valve timing, making it the most advanced part of the Yaris. Still, it produces only 106 horsepower and 103 pound-feet of torque at 4,200rpm, which means drivers need to get the engine revs up more than in other cars before attempting to take off from a stop. Hill starts, a specialty of our San Francisco testing grounds, are especially challenging with this engine.

ALT TEXT
Although small, the Yaris's engine is efficient and gets excellent gas mileage.

Once moving, this engine propels the 2007 Toyota Yaris along adequately. We found it easy to hit 80mph while merging on to a freeway, and active use of the transmission prevented too much speed loss when attacking freeway hills. The gear ratios in the transmission require some getting used to: First gear should be held longer than in most cars, up to about 15mph, with second gear taking over to about 35mph. Third gear can hold out and even cruise at 55mph. There isn't a lot of overlap in these ratios because of the engine's low torque. Of course, that also means torque steer is nonexistent.

The Yaris's suspension works adequately to damp out and ride over potholes, and it feels steady enough around corners for a car of this class. It uses MacPherson struts in front and a simple torsion beam in back. There is no traction control or other roadholding electronics included or available for the Yaris, so it can't be pushed too hard around corners.

The upside of the small engine in the Yaris is its fuel economy, rated by the EPA at 34mpg in the city and 40mpg on the highway. In our more lead-footed testing, we observed 31mpg in a mix of city and freeway driving. Low emissions give the Yaris a ULEV-2/Bin 5 rating.

Beyond front air bags and side-impact door beams, the 2007 Toyota Yaris doesn't have a lot going for it on the safety-technology front. But these combine with the body construction to give it a reasonable four stars for front collision and rollovers from the NHTSA. For side impacts, it gets only three stars, most likely due to the lack of side air bags.

The Yaris hatchback is pretty bare-bones as far as roadholding technologies. Traction control and antilock brakes are neither included nor optional. The sedan version's top upgrade package does include antilock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution.

The 2007 Yaris gets Toyota's comprehensive warranty of three years/36,000 miles and a power train warranty of five years/60,000 miles. Corrosion protection is for five years with unlimited mileage.

Not a bad car

Pros: Great gas mileage, built in blue-tooth, good style

Cons: cup-holders awkwardly placed right in front of a/c vent, centered dashboard

Review: I have the 2010 4-door sedan style, and overall it's not a bad car. It gets great gas mileage and I like this car better than I did my Ford Focus. The only thing I have to complain about are the awkward placement of the cup-holders in front of the a/c vents. Cools a hot cup of coffee pretty quickly in summer. The dashboard took some getting used to, but after a while, it wasn't a problem. For a compact car, it has a lot of space inside. Even the back seats are relatively roomy compared to other compact 4-door sedans I've been in. My overall assessment, this car was worth the money and is paying for itself in good gas mileage, so I can't complain.

Park anywhere, and has the best MPH around!

Pros: I have the 08' model and I love this car, they don't sugar coat what you are buying. The Review Editor enters the car with unreasonable expectations. The Yaris is meant to not break your wallet in both price and fuel efficiency (very good at 40mph).

Cons: It bottoms out on steep hills on highways. If you don't know how to drive stick correctly this can be frustrating, but again, the Yaris is what it is.

Review: The Yaris is a perfect car for those that would rather keep there bank accounts full instead of flaunting a fancy car. For me, I needed something to get me from A to B and the Yaris does that with plenty of comfort, suprising space, storage, and insane fuel economy.
BTW this car will fit in almost any parking space in the city, make your friends' jaws drop when you parallel park between a rock and a hard place!!

Best designed vehicle I have ever seen.

Pros: Duel front wheel drive. Toyota moved the speedometer center dash. I was able to install my after market navigation system right behind the steering wheel. Best fuel economy of any car that has automatic, power steering, power brakes as a option.

Cons: Only a two seat version of the Yaris, with the same dash as the Toyota Yaris, would be a improvement, with the 1.0 liter motor to get better gas mileage, would be a improvement over the 1.5 liter motor verson of the Yaris.

Review: I have driven my 2007 Toyota 3 door hatch back 13,000+ miles. Love my Yaris. Easy to park and has the best fuel economy of any car I have owned. I got 35 mpg highway with the Yaris, when the Yaris, was loaded to the roof with stuff. Duel front wheel drive pulled me part way into my old driveway, just after a snow and ice storm. The driveway had a 30 degree up hill slope, and was covered with 4 inches of snow, with a 1/2 inch of ice on top of the snow. I do not think my Horizon, or my Escort wagon, could have pulled up into that ice covered driveway. Automatic, A/C, power steering, power brakes, are a must for a disabled person like myself. Love how Toyota moved the speedometer, from behind the steering wheel, to the top center of the dash. I quickly figured out how to use that the empty space. I mounted my aftermarket navigation system, right behind the steering wheel. A navigation system is a must for learning a new state. A good navigation system is easier to use than using printed out directions or a paper map.

Great commute, sporty and fun.

Pros: Quick, responsive, fun, efficient. Dashboard layout helps night driving. Good trunk space, roomy cabin.

Cons: Cup holders block the ac vents; keyless entry would be nice; sunroof would be great.

Review: Buying a Yaris is the equivalent of buying yourself a healthy snack.

This is my everyday commute car, ideal for the five mile drive, and the reviewer is dead wrong about not being a good choice for longer rides. I got the 2007 sedan, used, from the Toyota dealership: with only 10k on the odometer, I opted for the full warranty.

It is quick and responsive in traffic, so much that you quickly forget the price. If I take it easy on acceleration, I can get into the mid- to upper-30's for fuel efficiency. The sound system is both too clever and not clever enough, but forgivable in a car this size, and the MP3 port is great. It is roomy enough for large friends, and has safety features to drive to preschool.

This is a good car for an individual or a couple, or a good second car for a family. Why anyone would pay $40,000 for an SUV instead of $11,000 for a fuel efficient and fun ride like this is a mystery. (For that money, you could get three or four of these, just in case family comes to visit. The Toyota Sleeper Sofa? You heard it here first.)

Great little car

Pros: Excellent Gas Mileage, plenty of room, easy to park.

Cons: Road noise and no bluetooth.

Review: I use this car for a 60 mile commute daily and have not had a single problem in two years of ownership. I love all of the storage compartments, and the car has plenty of room for my entire family of 5.

A wonderful small family car!

Great Little Car

Pros: Roomy, practical, and fun to drive.

Cons: Can't think of any!

Review: I love my Yaris hatchback. I find it to be a practical and fun little car to drive. I downsized from a Passat Wagon which was much more luxurious and powerful, but got lousy gas mileage. I chose the Yaris because all I really need is a dependable commuter car and I think I got quite a bargain

Wow even for Montana

Pros: Sporty, smooth (if you know how to drive stick right), gas is a big plus, and the price is unbeatable.

Cons: Design could have been a little sharper I think, but that's a small detail.

Review: Overall I believe that this car has been a good investment for me. I live in Great Falls, Montana and the weather can really be something else. The front wheel drive feels solid and the 5-speed makes it feel like your "little sports car" (in its own respect). I truely believe the CNET reviewer of this car was rather harsh and was seeking weakness with an otherwise completely solid car. Oh, and by the way, the sound system that comes with the power package actually really sounds great for the price; its definately something you want to take advantage of. And remember, its new and its a Toyota!

surprisingly roomy- good visibility- comfortable ride

Pros: Excellent fuel economy. Hatchback has a cute, trendy look. So easy to park!!

Cons: poorly placed cup holders but I can live with that.

Review: my Yaris hatchback handles the road as well as my old 2002 Rav (2wd) in foul weather. I have a manual 5 speed transmisson. I like the hidden compartments in the dashboard. Very clever! I keep my rear seat folded to accomodate cargo. Amazing capacity. As far as reliability, this is a Toyota and the Yaris is made in Japan. You just can't beat the Yaris for economy AND looks. All I need now is a sunroof!

So in love with my new car!!!!

Pros: Super cute, great on gas. fits my family perfect!!!

Cons: Small trunk I have a family and I'm used to loading the truck full with a couple hundred dollars worth of grocery, thanks goodness for backseats... :)

Review: I just bought my new Yaris and I’m so in love already. It handles well, and the gas mileage is super. I can fit in every parking spot available, even when one isn't. I feel safe in all driving conditions. I live in Vancouver so it rains a lot and never once have I felt like my car couldn’t handle the wet slippery roads. I have a three year old and I wouldn’t be driving a car I didn’t feel safe in. Everyone I know that drives a Yaris is so happy with there purchase, I’m looking forward to the first road trip with this vehicle, I just might not ever come home.... :) P.S. I totally recomment this car!

Fantastic!

Pros: Drive feel, price, and amenities

Cons: No standard ABS

Review: I love my Yaris 2 door. I purchased a 2008, and have put 400 miles on it in less then three days, and that is just around town. I love it. I traded in my 1999 Pontiac Grand AM GT for the Yaris, and if I could do it again I would!

Extremely poor mileage

Pros: Zippy little car.

Cons: Choppy ride

Review: I recently purchased (8-24-07) a Toyota certified pre-owned 2007 Yaris Hatchback from Bell Road Toyota in Phoenix, AZ. Overall, I'm happy with the car except for one minor detail. The mileage stinks! The car had 5,094 miles on it when I bought it. It now has 5,738 miles. To date, I have put 25.192 gallons of gas thru it, for an average of 25.563 mpg. The last two fillups have netted me 24.5 & 25.29 mpg respectively. This is a rather poor showing for a vehicle which claims 40 mpg. Granted, all my driving so far has been in the city; but I still expected to break the 30 mpg barrier. Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong or should I have the car painted YELLOW??

Junk built to a price.

Pros: Air conditioning.

Cons: Blind spots, comfort, unstable.

Review: I use this car frequently as a fleet vehicle and cannot stand it. The blind spots are horrible, especially at night- I might as well drive with one eye shut. While turning, especially to the left, I must shift myself to the center to ensure I don't crash head on into an oncoming tanker.

Driving in poor weather will take years off your life, as your heart will pound well after you have reached your destination. A perfect car for a city free of precipitation and other traffic.

Not a driver's car at all- steering is loose and detached. Instruments are horribly misplaced- checking your speed or your signals may result in a massively disproportional crash with an American guzzler carrying ritalin pumped honor students.

For the price, I'd purchase a second hand Camry or Corolla.

Great Little Car

Pros: Awesome gas mileage, lots of cabin storage, good sounding stereo, unbeatable price, plus, its a Toyota

Cons: No cruise control available through Toyota

Review: This car is great. It has way more room inside than you think it would, plus its a great deal. There are 7 storage bins at you can reach from the drivers seat, and the back seat is surprisingly roomy, given that its such a small car. There is also a lot of storage under the back floor, where the spare tire rests. You can't beat this car in the city, and if its just 2 people in the car, you can really move a lot of gear if you need to.

Lay off the Crack cnet!!

Pros: Space, smooth quiet ride, astronomical gas mileage, nice styling, Toyota quality

Cons: No external trunk key/button, (you must open the door and pull the trunk lever) Poor placement of cup holders, only 1 power outlet.

Review: Whoever doesn't like this car is nut's!! I traded one of our Mercedes for it to thin the household budget so we could look for a bigger house. While this car does not have the amenities or finish of a 40K car, comparing it apples to apple with cars that are actually in it's class it shines. This car is as quiet as my C280, rides nearly as smooth, and has just about as much cabin space. While the engine is no bigger than what is on my motorcycle it performs very well and delivers fuel economy that rivals my motorcycle. I have had many people walk around it at the gas pump and comment on how "cute" it is and how it does not have that "econobox" styling. This is a solid little car and if you want to check one out I suggest going to a dealer because you wont find them sitting in front of a gas pump very often. By the way, you can get a tomtom go 700 with bluetooth, speaker phone and all of the other gadgets on ebay for about $275.00, so buy it and stick the other $4,725.00 in the bank, you will realize you made few sacrifices to own one of the greenest non-hybrid cars available. I cant say I really miss my power headrest, and the $271.00 that stays in my checking account each month when I write out a payment comes in handy.

Great car for the money

Pros: Handles well - good acceleration for a 4 cylinder, can park in little spaces, gas mileage extremely roomy, ergonomics good, decent stereo, tiny blind spots

Cons: No automatic door lock feature, strange glare on front windshield from street lights at night

Review: My Camry hit 105K and needed some relatively minor work, so took it to the dealer and they gave me a loaner, a Yaris. At the same time, my husband and I were looking into buying a new car - a Solara - I WANT A CONVERTABLE!!), so took one for a test drive. I LOVED the Solara - it has all the bells and whistles I was hoping for and handles like a dream. Rationality then kicked in, and with two kiddos on the verge of driving, I asked myself, "Do I really want them driving a Solera, with the huge blind spots that go along with any convertable, and all that horsepower under the hood?" Maternal wisdom (protection?) prevailed and we bought the Yaris. It was delivered yesterday, and even though it's not a convertable, it's extremely pleasant to drive. My husband is over 6 feet and has plenty of leg and head room - it handles extremely well, it has almost no blind spots and I think it's an ideal design for new drivers. The ergonomics are typical Toyota (I don't drive any other make) - although the cup holders open right in front of the air vents - not sure what effect that will have yet since I haven't had anything in the cup holder while blasting the air.... The sound system is decent, and it does have anti-lock brakes, contrary to what the CNET reviewer said. We bought this for everyday use and for our soon-to-be-driving kids - don't see how you can beat the quality dollar for dollar ( we spent about 16,400K for the fully loaded sedan). Toyotas just keep getting better.
Updated
Just filled up for the first time.
Got 35 mpg (combined city and freeway driving) - hard to beat. The strange glare on the front windshield went away after I washed it, so I'm guessing it was due to residue from dealer's coating. So . . . after driving it now for about a week, my initial review stands.

07' Yaris Sedan!

Pros: Great gas milegae, great handling, comfort

Cons: Can't see the front of the car while driving.

Review: I love my car, I recently purchased the 07 Sedan and have been very surprised with my car. The gas mileage is amazing as I get on average 40 miles to the gallon and 400 miles to the tank; at current gas prices of $3.39 a gallon it still only took $35 to fill up my tank. The engine is great and has more power than my previous 6 cylinder and there is a smooth transition in shifting for my automatic. I'm a case manage and am constantly on the road with clients and so far they all love the comfort of my car. I had a larger 280 lb 6 foot man in my backseat and when asked if he was comfortable he replied it's the most comfortable I have been in a car in a long time. It surprised me too! The trunk is also large enough to fit a wheelchair, which I was worried about at first. My fiance's car was recently in the shop and he spent the week between his parents to cars a BMW and an ACura TL and stated that he still loved my car and that it handled better than both of the others that he had been driving. So I feel safe in saying that this is a good car and the review by the main rider is indeed wrong. It's a great car and it's made solid, my favorite car yet.

You couldn't ask for a better car for under 16k

Pros: Fuel efficient, cute as hell, comfortable, mp3 jack, a lot more space than you'd expect, and can really GO for such a little car!

Cons: cruise control isn't standard- (but not that much to add) otherwise, I LOVE IT!

Review: I've never read such an ignorant review as Mr. Cunningham's! I have a 2007 Yaris Liftback, and this:
"The instrument cluster--what there is of it--is centrally mounted on the dash. This arrangement makes it harder to monitor the speedometer, but this car doesn't go all that fast."
Is the stupidest thing i've ever heard! First of all, I personally find the instrument cluster in the middle to be SO much easier to monitor! because the steering wheel isn't in the way, and you don't have to look DOWN from the road. It's right there in your range of vision.
Secondly, this car can go pretty fast. 90mph- no problem. i almost didn't even realize it- no shaking or anything.
Everywhere i go i get comments on the car. people always think it's a hybrid because it's just so cute and "space-agey" looking. I was at first attracted to it because of it's price and appearence, but now i just love everything about it! it's comfortable, it's back seat is much bigger than you'd think. it drives smooth, corners great. i can plug my ipod right into the jack. i love all the little compartments to hold things.i get 40 mpg on the highway, easy- sometimes more. and toyotas last a long time. I had a camry before this, and it lasted 15 years. So i went back to toyota when buying a new car. & i'm not disappointed! the yaris is perfect!

THE car in Quebec City

Pros: Fuel efficient, easy to park, great small car for tall person, confortable

Cons: Trunk to small

Review: I live in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. Everywhere you look, there is a Toyota Echo or Yaris. It's SMALL CAR CITY has some car dealer says.

We have a Toyota Echo for 5 years and could not be more satisfied. It had everything we need to go from A to B and more. Great for long trip also (the way we are seated is very confortable). No extra costs for any repair. The Yaris is far more than the Echo.

Perfect for my active life.

Pros: Fuel economy, comfy, somewhat roomy compaired to Echo

Cons: rattle somewhere up front, poor speakers, cupholder placement

Review: I have owned my Yaris Sedan for since June 2006, I have logged over 23,700 miles. with several trips from Kentucky to Chicago. I am able to drive from Lexington to Milwauke on one tank of gas on some occasions, my best tank is 42.9 mpg most of the time I get 38 or better, I did a have a few tanks during the winter that dropped as low as 34, but these times I can count on one hand. I was expecting a little less rattles and noises from thecar being a toyota, but the dealer has fixed one sound but cannot find the other sound yet, will be taking it again in in a month or so. Easy to maintain, all fluids easy to work with, I change my own oil, between 3 and 5K, engine runs as good as day one even with many highway drives at 70+, My tips for pulling great fuel economy, and you have heard this before and I dont make a scene out of any one ofthese i do it when its safe and not annoying anyone else, but the car likes to coast, if that light changes ahead or your going down hill, just let the car runs its course, the less your on the gas, the more your saving, also dont do quick accelerations, you learn what feels right for the car and its fine for everyone else leaving that traffic light. The car has a good turning radius. I think the cup holders are in a good spot but not right against the vents. climate radi controls are easy to get too, oh and the big question I get asked is about the center mounted gauges? It took me no time to get used it and most people who drive my car said that as well. so that should not be an issue, I got the power package with ABs, well worth it unless your okay with a stripped down car at a strip down price, but since this is my only car I got it more loaded, and happy with it. The trunk is much roomier then people think, and tge interior is on par with the older generation corolla and such, its an open atmosphere. Enjoy your car and enjoy the fuel savings. My previous car was a 2002 Subaru Forester that got 26 mpg, hugee difference in what Im savings, your car may get less then 26, so your savings will be more but my monthly expenses have gone down just over $100 in gas alone at ($2.88). Also oil change interval is less, in my situation yes I went to less fo a car but my car payment is much less and will be paid off much sooner. It was a win win situation.

Awesome Vehicle for the price!

Pros: Compact Size, Fuel Economy, Decent Sound System, Plenty of trunk space for a compact car, attractive controls, comfortable seats

Cons: Wind Noise...that's all in my opinion

Review: I just got my brand new Toyota Yaris today and it is a magnificent car for the price! I got the sedan with the power package, keyless entry, cruise control, mats, fog lamps and I must say I am in LOVE! This little car comfortable seats my family of four with my two children in carseats. The view is wonderful from the drivers seat and there are not any horrid blind spots. I have a 50 mile commute to work and go up and down many steep hills here in Montana and have had no problem maintaining speeds up the hills. Further, after putting on 80 miles in my first day of ownership my tank is still Full! The ride is quiet enough but when on the highway you'll hear a little wind noise but not enough to be too bothersome.

The car is a blast to drive - great handling

Pros: Roomy, Easy to Drive, good power for its class, Hi fun factor

Cons: None yet - relativity is the name of the game.

Review: I can't believe the person rating this vehicle gave it a 5 for styling. Hey , it is the year 2007. Styles progress. Your 1967 Dodge Monaco isn't the only car on the road. This car is setting the pace for small.

Great Car for City Drivers!!

Pros: Gas Saver, Small, Cute, many cool storage compartments

Cons: Light, no criuse control or abs

Review: I bought my Yaris hatchback in Feb 07 and have been loving it more and more each day! I love the ease of parking it in the city, since my older cars were sports cars. It has good pickup but sometimes a little too much pickup, so lead footers watch out.

I have driven this car though a number of snow / rain storms since I've owned it and it dealt pretty good for a small light car. Just in the storms you can't speed too much and have to have BOTH hands on the wheel. If you don't put both hands on the wheel your car will seem to be pushed by the wind...yet the rules of the road say to have two hands on at all times anyways.

The gas mileage is awesome, I work in the burbs and commute 20miles each way everyday and the drive is a breeze thanks to the 350miles I average every tank full.

The seats are a little hard at first but after a few weeks they get worn in and are great. The interior is WAY bigger than the outside makes you believe...a 6' tall stocky male friend of mine was able to sit in the backseat comfortably without his head coming close to hitting the roof. I also am 6' tall and drive comfortably in the car daily. There are many neat compartments to hide stuff in, which can be convenient in the city so things are out of view from people walking by. The trunk is small, probably 5 grocery bags max...although the back seats do fold down and that allows for more space for big things.

Although the car has it's cons the pros outweigh them big time in my book! This car is a great buy for it's cheap price, and would be good for a student, recent grad (like myself), city residents, and people who want to have the gas mileage of a hybrid but can't afford one.

Miserable at highway speeds; a tiny little death trap!

Pros: Fuel efficiency, easy to park

Cons: TERRIBLY shaky at high speeds, slides frighteningly in either moderate to high winds/any kind of inclement weather, poor cornering

Review: I bought this car last year for its fuel efficiency, but I'll never buy a Yaris, or any other Toyota product again after my experience w/this car! It handles well enough at city speeds (under 50 mph,) but corners poorly at any speed, and is horrifically frightening to drive at highway speeds, or in inclement weather. After a winter full of near-misses w/this miserable little death trap, the bloody little thing wound up slamming into an icebank on a curve after a GUST OF WIND (that any other car would have shrugged off,) caused it to lose control. I'm getting rid of this thing in the next couple of weeks--and my advice is to not go anywhere near this car if you do any kind of highway driving whatsoever, or live in a climate that gets over 5" of precipitation a year. Seriously, this thing is DANGEROUS!

Cute, fun, eco, and a big thing in a really small package

Pros: Cheap, good looks, fun to drive, aux input, many cupholders, nice gauges, clever compartments everywhere, and overall great design.

Cons: Only the 2 door hatchback is sold in the U.S., slightly odd cupholders, and a whimpy horn.

awesome car - ignore editor review

Pros: minimalist design, great handling, comfortable interior, fuel economy

Cons: wish it had 5 speed automatic or hybrid technology

Review: I love this car...I got the 4 door sedan version which does handle a bit better on the road than the liftback version, in my opinion, although I liked them both. I have the automatic since I don't like driving the stick, although when I did test drive the manual, it shifted easily enough for me.
No trouble keeping up on the highway. I have 1 hour commute each way to work and car is comfortable to ride in. Sound system is fine. Yaris comes with ABS and side and curtain airbags as an option for just $1600 more than base price. With all the options, the car wasn't much more than the base model. Definitely happy with my car and hope to keep it for 5+ years!

Yaris Rules

Pros: Spacious yet still a tiny compact car. Very good visibility with large windows. Super comfortable seats with plenty of room in back for passengers. Fantastic gas mileage. Very peppy engine.

Cons: None. None. None. None. And none.

Review: My husband and I love everything about this car. It's fun and easy to drive with terrific handling, visibility and safety features. The stereo even has great sound with substantial bass. The interior styling and fabric opholstery has the look and feel of a much higher-end car. I can't believe the what a great value this car is. There's a reason it was one of the most popular cars in Europe and Japan for several years. Yaris rules! The editorial review makes no sense. Maybe he's getting paid by Ford?

More proof that 'experts' know nothing!

Pros: Excellent gas mileage; tremendous 'smile factor' going for it'; fun to drive and loads of quality; it's SMALL--and I love small cars.

Cons: Had to wait what seemed an eternity to get the model and options wanted via special order

Review: I don't know who that crumbsnatcher was that reviewed the Yaris, but he doesn't know JACK about this segment of automobiles and their appeal. Even with gasoline prices edging downward somewhat in my area, the Yaris makes me smile each time I fill her up--which isn't often. Who cares that you don't get navi, for Christ's sake? What's that got to do with the price of anything? If you can't plan a trip by reading a map, perhaps you don't need to drive in uncharted territory. That aside, the car is wonderful for me and I'm really happy I made the purchase. In my eagerness for it with the options I wanted, it needed to be special-ordered, which required a greater waiting period to receive, and was a total drag (yeah, I'm impatient). But it was worth it in the end. I'm so sick of SUV and 'premium entry level luxury' aficianados berating 'lesser' cars because they lack this feature or that. The beauty of automobiles is that there should be something available for everyone--we don't all give a rat's butt about leather seats and satellite radio in our cars. Practicality, being fun to drive and awesome gas mileage will always win my heart any day of the week. I've received numerous compliments and questions about my Yaris and even guys who admit that they wouldn't buy it owing to it's size still seem to like it overall. CNET, stick to what you do best--reviews of electronics and the like--and leave the car reviews to more established and reputable sites. The review of the Yaris left much to be desired.

I love my Yaris!

Pros: adorable, good gas mileage, fun to drive

Cons: safety features aren't standard.

Review: I love that people who actually have a Yaris are giving it great reviews. I love this car. It's fun to drive and for me, it's the perfect first "new" car. The only downside for me is that once you add on the safety features, you might as well upgrade to the corolla. My car started at 11,000 but ended up closer to 16,000 when all was said and done. Still, I really really enjoy driving it! (And the cupholders are great!)

Best "Super-Mini" in recent years!

Pros: style, economy, options, reliability, handlings, safety.

Cons: No kitchen sink available!!!

Review: After buying a defective 2006 Opel Astra, having it replaced with a second one by the dealer and this one ALSO having a defective transmission! I decided to test drive as many Small Cars as I could in order not to make the same mistake again. It was a close call between the Honda Jazz and the Toyota Yaris but the Yaris (T-Spirit) won due to the professionalism shown buy the dealership and by all the extra's that come as "Standard" on the Yaris but as "Options" on other models. 5 Star NCAP Safety rating, "9" Airbags, Remote control on the steering column (no bending forward or reaching for the knobs on the radio!) plus alot more I could mention. It has very light and responsive handling, the ride is surprisingly comfortable for such a small car, tight turning circle makes parking a breeze and with the rear parking sensors one feels alot more daring parking in those tight places. Our Yaris is equipped with a "Smart Keyless Entry & Start System", an option one would expect in a much larger/more expensive vehicle. The CNET review was by far too harsh and would've suited the Opel Corsa or the Renault Clio.
My wife and I Love our new Yaris and after test driving at least 7 other small cars, the Toyota Yaris came through as the clear winner! Don't believe everything you read... Go out and test drive a Toyota Yaris for yourself! "Driving is believing"

Happier than I expected w/ Yaris Sedan

Pros: great gas mpg (of course), smooth drive, handles great on highway, feel solid

Cons: no lighter/ashtray, dash/console durability might be a concern

Review: Originally I was considering either the Yaris Liftback or the Nissan Versa and actually decided on the Versa after reading reviews (such as this) and after test driving the Versa at a local dealership.

However, after not having any luck finding the exact color & (admittedly frivolous) options of the versa that I wanted (keyless entry/ignition)...my trigger happy spouse decided to surprise me with the Yaris Sedan by parking it in the driveway before I arrived home from work last week.

I felt obligated to seem happy as I normally did with past "surprises", however, after driving it to work the very next morning, I couldn't be happier.

I'm no techy, but I do love gadgets and yet despite the review I'm in love with this car! Admittedly, I'm not a car buff or know much about cars, which engine is better, and so on, but what I do care about is 1) good gas mileage, 2) safety, and 3) a pleasurable drive. I'm not at all concerned with the car not having onboard navigation or bluetooth.

To be honest, I'm not willing to pay $2,000+ for a flashy navigation system pre-installed. For my purposes I'd rather buy an aftermarket gps unit such as a garmin or tomtom. I don't mind at all the "single" CD/MP3/WMA player...it's more than enough for me.

Besides I can always attach my iPod to the aux jack or simply burn a data CD...my thinking is, once my music starts playing I will most likely be focusing on driving rather than messing around with the iPod so there's really not much need for me to be able to control the iPod with the installed audio unit - as was proven this past week.

Although I don't live in San Francisco, where CNET test drove the Yaris liftback, I do have my fair share of hills and various highway merging on my way to work. In my weeklong experience with the Yaris Sedan, I have yet to be dissappointed with how it handles. I constantly find myself driving between 70-80mph (shh!) without realizing i was going that fast prior to checking the dash for the speed of the car. At 5am I share the road with numerous semi's as well as other speeding vehicles and the car feels solid and holds it's own while I pass slower trucks/cars as well as when they pass me. Perhaps it's not the same with the liftback, but now I know not to trust reviews so quickly.

During my test drive of the Versa, I found that I like driving the Yaris Sedan more, if not equally. My Yaris has the optional All Weather package as well as the Power Package. Besides my car not having the spoilers I don't really see the difference between my Yaris Sedan and the Yaris S Sedan. I do have the 4speed automatic however rather than the 5speed manual. I've had a manual before and although I was hoping to get a manual shift car this time around...I also know myself well enough to know that after the novelty of shifting gears wears off I would be kicking myself for not getting an automatic.

All in all...in my confusion between choosing the either the Versa or the Yaris, I am glad that my spouse new me well enough to know that the Yaris Sedan is a perfect fit for me.

I think it's an excellent choice for someone who's not stuck on getting a car that seems as though it came right out of the t.v. tuned to "Pimp my Ride." My needs are not to be able to win a 2am drag race or supply drivers behind me with a free preview of the latest DVD release on some lcd monitor attached to the back of my headrest...but rather a solid and comfortable drive while i listen the music on my iPod or a burned CD.

yes, fire review editor!

Pros: fuel efficiency, versatile audio formats, stylish

Cons: safety rating low, slooooow acceleration

Review: whoever edits the ratings was paid to say these horrible things... or was in a really bad mood that day!

i opened new membership just to try to rectify the paint thrown on this vehicle's reputation by whomever wrote the review listed on this site.

i have owned my 07 Yaris Sedan for almost 90 days and i love it! its cute and gets phenomenal gas, i spend at most $15 (about 5 gallons) a week and it never gets below 1/2 a tank =D
i can also play all my burned CDs on the factory deck, and never get that stupid "no disc" message =D

the only thing is the acceleration... nothing to brag about, but with a 1.5L
4-cylinder... are you surprised?

so just lets say for its price range its definately one of the best in the market today. compacts and sedans with this kind of fuel-efficiency are either Hybrid and very expensive (not to mention those batteries cost a small fortune to replace) or upwards of $5k in price. the Honda civic now advertises 40mpg also, but the MSRP is like $15k, and though the yaris may lack a few of the safety features of the civic, it boasts a much more friendly 11K MSRP.

besides it feels solid! Toyota has a reputation for long-lasting, quality merchandise. i know my investment will be a wise one until i can settle into the american dream in the years to come =D

Stick to the Corolla Toyota

Pros: Gas mileage, dirt-cheap

Cons: Transmission broke after 4 1/2 months, unattractive

Review: Bought this car because of the Toyota name but boy was I wrong. The C-Net review was totally right. My transmission broke after 4 1/2 months. Great reliability, huh? Unless you want a car that looks like Spack from Star Trek , don't buy it!!!!!!

Short and sweet

Pros: Gas miser, price is right, headroom, sporty look, storage capacity

Cons: Only 2 openable windows on HB, instrument panel location and only visible with car "on"

Review: Having driven 2 different Ford Festivas over the past 13 years I was used to a small car with headroom that gets good MPG's. It was a no-brainer to buy the Yaris as it shares many of the same characteristics except 1: quality. Granted the Festiva was a fine car but only because of it's pedigree (fusion between Mazda/Kia/Ford), but alas, no A/C. It took a few days to get used to, but it's definitely "bigger" than it looks. During our recent heatwave I did find that only having the door windows available to roll down for venting purposes was a little limiting; I suggest they enable wing windows on the rear quarter panel for future versions (or some auto venting solar thing would work). Perfect "first new car" for someone starting out or frugal like me.

I like my new car a lot

Pros: dashboard in the center, gas, a lot of space

Cons: could have a little more power

Review: I got my Yaris 3 days ago, and I'm very happy with it. It's affordable, I was just looking for a small cute car, with CD, A/C, Power windows, Power doors, 4 doors. That was it. I didn't want more than that, and i got it for a reasonable price, If I would have the money, I would go for "the gadgets" but I wasn't interested on it.

I like the Dash board in the center, for 2 reasons, design wise, keep everything organize in the center, you have visually more empty room in the front, and 2nd. you actually can see how fast you go, without looking thru the wheel, didn't you noticed that? check ;)

This is a perfect car for someone who is looking for a reliable car!!!! just with what you need, not the extras that the car makers add, that's why they are EXTRAS!!! when I have the $$$$$$ I will go for the Audi, and the Mercededes uhmm.. meanwhile, I will stick with what I can afford.

Wayne, just keep it simple, blue tooth just came out few years ago, you DON'T NEED THAT to get to work and make a living !! get real

CNET REVIEWER MUST RESIGN!

Pros: Cheap, 40+mpg, every thing you need, simple, fun, solid

Cons: cruise control standard would be nice

Review: The man in the review video was nuts! Total idoit, like President Bush, and I believe a bum off the street would have more common sense than that compleat moron. This is a great car, perfect for what you pay for. I traded in my 98 MERCEDES-BENZ ML320 for this car and it is very well worth it. If I wanted "navigation" and "sat. radio" and all the "gadgets" I would have paid thousands more for another Mercedes. Great product, think for yourselves on this one... go try it out if and grab one while you can.

I Absolutely Love My New Yaris!

Pros: Quiet, Smooth, Fuel Efficient, Roomy

Cons: Touchy Clutch, Nothing Is Automatic

Review: I was not expecting to purchase a new car. I wanted something fuel efficient for my 70 mile round trip commute to and from work. I wanted something affordable. Something that looked state-of-the-art. Something comfortable.

And the Yaris had all of that.
When I test drove it - it was extremely quiet. It is such a smooth ride. I have only filled up once (from the tank the dealership gave to me), and got only 37 MPG. But I have confidence that this next fill-up will be much more.

I recommend this cute little car to anyone.
You sit up high, so you dont feel like such a small car. You can see throughout the whole vehicle (no blind spots). And it is just so darn economical.

I do not have kids, but I've sat in the back seat - and it was comfortable.

All in all, I love it.
This is my first Toyota, and I cant wait to keep it until it has 150,000-200,000 on it and get a new one.

comments on Wayne Cunningham's review

Pros: Economic compact car.

Cons: can't find it at the Toyota dealer yet.

Review: poor road condition? Please explain more...
over all Wayne Cunningham did a pretty bad job reviewing this compact car. I think he pretty much missed the point of it being an affordable and simple car that relates to the everyday person. Not everyone is making as much as he is. There should be another person who is fit to review a budget type car. Wayne Cunningham can go back to do his kind of luxury vehicle reviews.

Trump: Wayne, you're stupid, and you're fired

Pros: Excellent mileage, does what its meant to do, and is a Toyota. Enough said.

Cons: Engine power could use a little more juice. The better options are open for the sedan but not the hatchback, why!?

Review: Wayne, you need to quit your day job. You're complaining that theres no Bluetooth, Navi, and iPod adapter on a $10k economy car!? What kind of ridiculous options would you expect for a car in this segment of autos?? Its meant for people who just needs something that they can get from point A to point B without killing their wallet. You obviously dont know crap even if it came out your rear end. You ever seen the movie "The Weather Man"? Because you're going to get all kinds of crap thrown at you for your stupidity. Sure its your opinion that the car isnt upto certain expectations, but at least be reasonable. I have a big gulp with your name on it if I ever see you in person.

Regardless of the c/net review - this is a great car

Pros: It's a Toyota and it gets 40mpg - what more need be said?

Cons: Hard to find at Dealers - Maybe all these people buying them off the dealer's delivery trucks didn't read the c/net reviews?

Review: Normally I hold the the people at c/net in high regard for their reviews. But not for car reviews that's for sure. I bought a polar white Yaris lifthback for my daughter about 3 weeks ago. I was so impressed I bought another - actually ordered it since these babys stay on the Toyota lot for about 20 minutes before they are sold. It's got everything you need and nothing which you don't. It beautifully simplistic. It runs great, carries a lot, is well made, has Toyota reliability and quality (probably a high Toyota resale as well), and gets 40 mpg. What more could you want? A navigation systems and a Bluetooth interface in a $13,000 car? On what planet? Relegate Mr. Cunningham to reviewing cell phone replacement batteries. He certainly doesn't understand cars.

A Great Car in These Times!

Pros: Good Mileage - Stylish - Well Built

Cons: Needs Better Shocks

Review: I'm a pro photographer and I can carry a complete studio lighting set-up including a nine foot long roll of background paper with me, that's how much space this car has on the inside! Great head room and you sit up pretty high for such a small car. I've driven this car on several road trios already...L.A.-Reno and L.A.-San Jose. It's very comfortable, good seats. I've had four large guys in it and all were surprised at the room available, more than my room mate's Mustang! That's when I noticed the shocks should be better! This car is a winner and attracts attention! Mine is red (IMO the best color available) and I addeded 17 in. tires and chrome wheels. A joy to drive and it sips gas. AC and sound system are 5 star.

Totally Cool

Pros: FUN and Cheap

Cons: Dealers don't carry enough of them.

Review: I have had my new Yaris hatchback for about a month and a half. I traded my old BMW 3 series in that I had for years. What a good buy. This car is fun to drive. Its quick, it handles good, its cute and its got lots of room. Takes a second to put the back seat down and you have more cargo space than you would imagine. Everyone who has been in this car loves it. The MP3 player kicks butt to. Even under the hood everything is so easy to get to. Well designed. I got the convience package with 15" wheels and I can do better than 40MPG on the highway. Closer to 45MPG. I tested this on I95 around 75 MPH. There is a reason this car got car of the year in both Europe and Japan!!! I think this reviewer needs to take a better look at the catagory of car he was testing. OH ( I defintly suggest the Manual Trans ) More Fun!!

this is a GREAT car.

Pros: excellent gas mileage and cute to boot

Cons: what do you mean by cons? well, if i must, plastic.

Review: I have to agree with the other responses to the CNET review. It's way off base. Of course there are few high-tech touches to this car, it's made to be low-priced AND to be fuel-efficient. For those of us who don't need a hybrid because we don't drive the freeways enough to get the good mileage benefits from them. The weirdest part of the review was stating that the rear is cramped. I have had many adults sit in the backseat - all have commented on the ample space compared to most small cars out there. I LOVE my Yaris. We need to encourage US drivers to get into smaller cars; I can't believe the number of solo drivers I see around in SUVs. We're killing ourselves, people. Go Yaris!

Great car! Terrible reviewer!

Pros: Nice design, lot's of leg and head room, solid ride.

Cons: Too few to mention

Review: I just purchased my 2007 Yaris and I love it! Toyota proved once again that if you make a great product and sell it cheap it will sell itself.
I traded my Camry because I wanted a smaller quality car, and this is it! I'm six foot four and I have more head and leg room in the Yaris then I had in the Camery. The car handles the highway beautifully and it feels very solid.
I don't understand the reviewer comments at all because this is a very practical and smart car. If you like toys and are willing to pay thousands of dollars for them then find something else. As for the rest of us reality based consumers, this is the best car on the road

Very bad review by Wayne Cunningham. lack of info.

Pros: Its good car, nice fresh style, economical , good driving position

Cons: the price is little high here in Norway

Review: How does mr. Wayne Cunningham knows that the new toyota yaris has no antilock brakes. Did he research for it?. looks like not. Yaris has ABS(anti-lock braking system) + EBD(electronic brake force distribution) + BA(brake assist). it has also VSC(vehicle stability control) + TRC(traction control). He is saying that the yaris is Short on safety-tech standards. I dont think so. thats why i ordered a new yaris in MMT. mmt is much more relax but there is a technique if you want to have the best driving performance. its easy.. the turning radius is great. i was surpriced that the car can turn much more. i tried the yaris and it was good when im in parking lot that i can turn it much more. this is for a persons that likes style and economical car.

I Hug My Yaris

Pros: Comfort, Quality & a Hint of Luxary

Cons: Make This a Hybrid Car!

Review: I really really like my Toyoa Yaris!
I have had it since 4/28 and I have put almost 5K miles on it, I will be going in for my first oil-change, I bought my car from Lodi Toyota, Not only was the purchase really easy, but I fell in love with this car as soon as I saw it. Its very Euro. Maybe tahts why some people don't like it, you have to like Euro Styling. I like the Center Dashboard, now I can have my Dell Axim on the left, its really conveinant for me. Plenty of space for my I-pod, Oreo McFlurrys, Cellphones, Drinks & other nifty things. The Trunk Space is Huge and I got a fully loaded Automatic 4DR Sedan with Everything for $15,080 ... It connects to my IPOD. HOW Fantastic is that? I have no complaints about my car and a 6 year, 100K warrenty.

HEY EVERYONE!!!
Big Question out there, iS the Yaris Safe? Lots of PPL in the USA asking that because the Yaris is New. Look @ This, http://www.technadyne.com/reallydead.jpg

That WAS my Brand New yaris I got on 4/28 on 8/28 I was driving home from a client's house when I was coming off a curve @ 60mph (the posted limit) a deer ran out right in-front of me and I swerved to avoid it, my car did a great job HOWEVER, even though the ABS and the Vehicle Control was wokring, I already lost control on Gravel was spinning around in circles. . . I Hit a Tractor Discer , you know one of those BIG BIG BIG metal things with Discs that slice into the ground for Farming, well reguardless, Even though the Trunk was wiped off completely, I was totally safe and walked from the accident, and the entire cabin on the inside was in-tact even though the trunk was well, look http://www.technadyne.com/notrunk.jpg

Terrable failure of Toyota? or just a bad dud from the factory?

Pros: Good on gas, affordable.

Cons: Cramped, noisy, internal parts prone to breakage

Review: Toyota has usally pulled through for me, but with this thing, they failed miserably. I bought my Yaris earlier this month, The price was right and it was good on gas, which made putting up with the loud engine noise tolerable. The first month however changed my tolerance.

Week One the oil light came on, due to a cross-treaded oil cap, week two my Yaris seemed to like to veer off to the left, an allignment fixed that, then the window on the passenger side got stuck, and, suseqently shattered when the dealer tried to unjam it. Week three the wipers started to collide. Final week, I returned it and got a refund.

Either Toyota is slipping or they just ran the assembly line too fast, either way, I am staying away from this model, and possibly Toyota as the waiting room at my dealer's repair shop was rather full.

Very Poor Review by Cnet

Pros: Safety, Reliability, Price

Cons: Styling, Styling, Styling

Review: Cnet needs sack Mr. Cunningham. Unless, there is a technology checklist that you guys would like to publish that gives readers a better idea of how you are coming up with your ratings.

ABS and airbags aren't everything, good design goes a long way. I remember a day when ABS and traction control didn't rule our lives and it's quite obvious that Toyota has done their homework because the Yaris scored 5 out of 5 stars in its 2005 Euro NCAP test for offset and head on crashes. It even got 2 stars for pedestrian safety (who cares) and 3 for child protection. So it doesn't have the techno goodies we love to see, it achieves its purposes to be economical and a good drive.

It's a great little car that will get you where you need to go and while I may not like the styling I can almost guarantee that if the kiddies are buying Sigh-on vehicles they will look at this funky little car. The Honda Jazz or Fit as it's called here in the States is more car but it is more expensive.

Budget/quality unbeatable

Pros: Overall excellent

Cons: Manual is better

Review: Cnet folks, please leave the cars to the experts, you should stick to the domestic gadgets, I've read your comments on cars, if you don't have the budget to cover them correctly, then, don't try, it sounds very pathetic, a car should not be reduced to its Bluetooht connectivity or other wireless deveices. After all, what GEEKs know about cars!

It only gets 40 on highway!what the hell!

Pros: Its cheap!!!!

Cons: Horrible gas mileage for such a small car

Review: are you kidding me why would a car so small only get 40mpg on the highway. My moms old geo metro gets 50 on the highway and gets better around town. The only reason you would want this cheap car is for mileage and it should get better than 31 for the average. My 2001 honda civic 4 door auto gets average of 35. On the highway it gets 40 also. My civic is way bigger! I would keep looking unless you want to feel like driving around a car that looks like a small potato.

Yaris to Go

Pros: Nifty, feature packed, original concept, economical

Cons: Not as keen on the newer style centre console

Review: I know at least a little about this car although my wife and I owned the previous version in Australia known as an 'Echo'. In any case, this newer version, Yaris, has just been tested, independantly, and scored a very high 4 stars for safety. It is a modern, original and feature packed car. They drive excellently and have so many options for such a low cost car ($14,990 in Aussie which is very cheap here). They have ABS brakes, Safe-T cell body, Power steering and windows, MP3 player, the list goes on. This car deserves a vastly better review than given by the Cnet bloke who has probably never been close to using one of these beauties!

Awesome little car

Pros: Fuel effiency; cute design

Cons: ABS and side airbags do not come standard; blind spot from right rear pillar

Review: Zippy on local roads, and I get 40 MPG driving locally (higher than EPA estimate). It's a no frills car, perfect for those of us who are practical. I would've given it a 10 if it were equipped with side air bag and ABS.

Fun cheap car. Rediculous review.

Pros: Fuel Economy. Toyota build quality. Cheap Price.

Cons: Space. Missing some safety features.

Review: This was the most rediculous review of a car that I have ever read. For a real review see Edmunds, C&D, R&T, MT. Who in their right mind would want to equip a $12000 car with navigation and bluetooth. Those feature have barely broken into the $20-25k market. The car drives well and feels solid, and will last a long time. It has some style (considering the price), and is practical. If you want more, you need to find $5k more and buy a Mazda 3 or a Honda Civic (which it seems like CNET was judging it by).
