"excellent car but CNET reviewer is a bit misinformed" on by jam0321
Pros: A perfect balance between track car and daily driver
Cons: BMW service centers are horrible to deal with and look for reasons to void warranties
Gas mileage is not great. I do mostly highway driving and get 19 mpgSummary: CNET review described the optional M-double clutch transmission as SMG which is wrong. The M-DCT is basically gearboxes with individual clutches. When one gear is engaged, the next is selected and prepared to take the shift. This causes extremely fast shifts with no disruption in power from shift to shift. The old SMG gearbox was an electronically controlled manual gearbox. The computer did the clutch activation for you. Just be aware of this when you read the CNET review. The older SMG tranny that had mixed reviews is NOT the same as the M-DCT.

"Best every-day car!" on by MiguelRMP
Pros: A pleasure to drive every day, in every condition. Excellent driving position and adjustments, crisp, responsive, sticks to the ground on curves, breaks incredibly and wife-friendly!
Cons: Few available, so double-check the accessories list: mine has tech package and DCT, but no bluetooth. At this price, bluetooth is not standard! Driving position could be lower.
Summary: As automotive engineering tech goes, can't beat it - perfect for any situation. In terms of gadgets, iDrive is OK, LCD screen is huge and you can use the touch-sensitive keys under the CD slot to program shortcuts across the entire platform. The DCT is very respondive, and M-mode in automatic is really sharp if you don't want to shift yourself. If you do, you'll feel the kicks when you shift up, and you can use the engine to shift down as you brake. The shift lights are eye-candy. The dampening settings are useful for day-to-day driving (soft) and going over hard bumps (hard). Haven't had the guts to try launch control yet.

"See ya 911..." on by ganimed1
Pros: Versatility - No other car better combines an every day commuting vehicle with an ultimate racing machine
Tech & Design - Engine:wow, suspension: sporty heaven, cabin tech: halleluja, design: just beautiful. The M3 is a piece of car engineering art!Cons: None - I'm driving the 2009 model with new hard disk based nav and new iDrive. There is a new and big in-dash high resolution screen and every iDrive command is executed without any lag.
Summary: After three Porsche 911 Carreras I went for the M3. After 10'000 miles there is no doubt I made the right decision. The engine with is fast rev characteristics is just out of this world. And did I mention it's sound...?! The dynamic suspension system is a dream on the road and particularly on the track. But it doesn's stop there. The cabin experience is complete (I opted for the enhanced premium sound system which is great) and lets you travel in sporty comfort with enough room for two and their golf bags. One comment on the new dual clutch gearbox: I tested it and decided against it. It certainly works perfectly well and allows for comfortable gear changes which can hardly be noticed. but I just wasn't able to say which gear I was in when I was driving it in manual mode. So I always had to either guess or check the in-dash gear indicator which is something you shouldn't be doing when drivin along a curvy road. Besides that I had some issues with "finding" the shifter paddles on the stearing wheel when trying to shift while driving through a turn. Using a new shiftig method obviously is a matter of practice and personal preference. I just figured it is my preference to shift manually.
