| The Bottom Line | Except for fuel economy, the 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX works well as an all-purpose car. But if you want something more tightly tuned, wait for the STi version. | The 2009 Nissan GT-R is a technical tour de force, with evidence of brilliance throughout. We would have a hard time with the GT-R as an everyday driver, but it offers fun and exhilaration at heart-stopping levels. | Although we have some minor criticisms, the 2008 BMW 135i is, overall, an excellent car to drive every day or take out on the track. It scores big in performance and cabin tech. | Without many of the options our test car came loaded with, the 2007 Volkswagen GTI represents a very sporty car for a great price. But the added expense and the inferior cabin electronics drag the car down. | The 2008 BMW M3 is a tame lion. It's easy to handle among traffic and urban driving, while ferocious on the track or out in the hills. Its cabin electronics are among the best available. |
