Pros: great fuel milage and car drive wonderfuly

Cons: if you dont put the fuel cap on properly or if someone else fuels your car and does not put on the fuel cap properly the check engine light will stay on and you have to get it reset by the dealer for about 30 bucks.

Summary: love the feel of the car and power when you want it. getting great fuel milage is like a video game. love watching all the gauges and trying new things with it. I get up to speed and let off the fuel peddle and then push back on a little and can get up to 100 mpg sometimes driveing around town at about 30 mph

good luck on finding the 0/20 synthetic oil for 8 bucks a quart required for the prius. i had to buy my own at autozone and then have someone put it in for me. the oil filter was good news. its just a filter without the can and is only 5 bucks. someday maybe the oil change places will carry this stuff.

I know that with my Corolla all I had to do was disconnect the battery to reset the computer and get rid of the check engine light. I'm guessing there's a way to reset it yourself without having to pay $30. That's just outrageous.

You'd also think that they'd reset it for free when you bring it in as part of the 2 year free service. If not, then I'd yell and scream until they didn't charge me. So far I love my Prius and easily average well over 50 mpg every time. I guess the stop and go driving I do is ideal.

As for the oil change issues, make sure you make them change the filter after 5000 miles even though they'll tell you it doesn't need it. They tried to just top off my oil and I told them that was ridiculous for a new car. They are just trying to minimize the value of your 2 year free service. After 2 years I'll probably just bite the bullet and take it somewhere. After 5 years I'll start tackling it on my own. That's the way I usual do it.

I suggest you only buy Toyota filters, they are also around $5. There is a critical reason for this and part of the reason why Toyota changed the oil rating from 5-20 to 0-20. The most popular brand of Aftermarket filter is not, I repeat-not suitable for the Prius, and will result in more engine wear. They brag about trapping more polutants than the the OEM filter (this part is true-but not really that much better in real life). What they don't mention, is their filter is much more restrictive and harder to push oil threw. For a normal car this is fine, but not the Prius. The Prius engine is constantly starting and stopping, even when coasting the engine turns off, then restarts when you step on the gas a little more, not just at traffic lights. This delays lubrication just slightly each time, part of the reason why they dropped the viscosity of the oil to help with these filters, not just the lower resistance.
