"A Trinitron it is not , but..."
Pros: Photos can be strikingly good.
Cons: Some vignetting in the corners.
Summary: As stated here elsewhere, the screen is not the rectilinear shape an aperture grill such as the now defunct Trinitron monitors were...flat as a pancake from end to end. This is a traditional shadow-mask style and as being as such, has a somewhat curvilinear appearance on the 'extreme' edges. Certainly nothing to fuss about if one wasn't so spoiled by the 'Trin'.
Text is in every way just as sharp. A first for NEC if one believes everything they read about text quality and NEC's attention to this aspect.
There is some free test pattern software availible on NEC's website. It will 'fuse' into Windows Display control panel 'advanced' properties page, it should work for any brand. I used this rather extensive set of screen patterns and found no shortcomings considering the money paid for the monitor.
If you the reader prefer to print your own photos you should give a CRT some consideration. The dynamic range for light balance just isn't there yet for LCDs. And you shouldn't have any complaints about the rendering quality of this monitor. Just get the black level, better known as brightness, correct and pictures, even from the Web should jump right out at ya! NEC has only been doing this for over 25 years you know?
