A Technical Display
The CPD-G400 incorporates Sony's new FD Trinitron technology, offering truly impressive picture quality. The FD Trinitron tube produces a noticeably flat viewing surface with no visible distortions in corners and less flicker than is found on regular CRT displays. Though several manufacturers employ the same tube, the $699 Sony Multiscan CPD-G400 costs a mere $50 more than competing displays, such as
Hewlett Packard's P910 and Nokia's 446Pro, but neither display showed images as sharp as those of the Sony.
CNET Labs' image-quality jury remarked on the CPD-G400's lushly saturated graphics and superb color uniformity and sharpness. Text remained clear and easy to read at sizes as small as 7-point type. With an 18-inch viewable area, the CPD-G400 supports a maximum resolution of 1,800 by 1,440 at 70 Hz.
