"Nice wow factor" on by Pojojo
Pros: Browsing the web is really cool. Passing by the PC without sitting down or leaning over just to see a site... very nice. Watch Hulu ect. from bed because of large super clear screen is great. All wireless means moving it to different rooms is easy.
Cons: For some.. the specs are average.. not cutting edge processor or graphics card. If you get over enthusiastic can run too many things and slow it down. Usually four or five high intensity programs. Trade off for the price and screen size.
Summary: After a month of ownership, for me this is 5 stars. Took off half a star just because some may think a little better processor or larger HD might be better or graphics card for that matter. Not being a gamer, and a pretty average pc user, none of those affect me. I had to try opening a bunch of programs to see where it is limited. I found a combination that did slow it, but not how I use the PC in real life. I assumed multitouch would be something I might use on occasion.. but find it useful and used on nearly every session on the PC. Especially browsing. Scrolling and resizing small text to larger is much easier by touch. That's not just the novelty of it anymore.. that has worn off. When I use the netbook I tend to forget an tap the screen sometimes.
I love the form factor as well.. all wireless no tower. Just one cord from the PC to the wall outlet. This means moving it from room to room or even taking to someones house is no big deal. I won't ever have all those wires again... touch screen or not.
For now there is the fun factor of showing this off too. Even my kids who have smart boards in the classroom and watch CNN where they see touchscreen all the time are amazed that the same is sitting on a desk.. :) That's fun to see. How often is anyone impressed with a PC anymore? Sure a real computer geek can be with massive specs... but just looking at it? It's fun being the first on your block so to speak.. :) And for 800 to 900 bucks.
Windows 7 works really nicely. I am like most people and kept XP and skipped Vista. I haven't found anything to complain about there.
Really I think if you do normal things on a PC like I do... you won't go wrong with this one. The screen size is great, the performance is more than enough... the form factor is great. The components are tried and true. For me it's the intangibles and not the raw numbers that make this PC non-negotiable. New OS and capabilities, combined with stable parts. Well thought out form factor. It is just a nice step up from boring and not so wild that you have to learn anything, or unlearn anything. It will definitely keep us average people happy until the next technological leap occurs, whatever that is and whenever it is affordable. If you like everything as high powered as can be, and want to pay for that, wait and I am sure more will get crammed in there. For mom, dad and the kids... or home office use... we wouldn't gain much from cramming more in. -
"I have had the Acer Z5610 for 2 months." on by tquest645
Pros: 1. The screen is it's greatest WOW factor.
2. My Asia model has a 750 GB Hard Drive.
3. Great combo with new Windows 7.
No problems with keyboard and mouse(Windows 7 is great!).
4. Absolutely no set-up problems-worked perfect out of box.Cons: 1. Would have liked to see 1GB instead of 512MB on the video card (or some sharing of main memory) to be a "hot" gaming PC. Does work fine with most video games.
Summary: This is one of the best bargains that Acer has developed. Long-time Acer user and I have had great luck with their products. My Asian model came with 3GB RAM Memory and I plan to up-grade to 8GB. 3GB memory is good for 90% of daily usage. I am upgrading because I feel that this unit will be a long-term investment for me.
As an after-thought, Windows 7 is absolutely GREAT!!! I held out with Windows XP Professional for many years but Microsoft did get it right this time! Congrats Microsoft. -
"A great unit for your money" on by colin_ager
Pros: I found this unit easy to use. A crisp clear picture, touch screen is responsive, and reacts well to the touch; the unit looks good and feels well built.
Cons: Nothing as of yet but I will keep looking
Summary: I have had my Aspire Z5610 for a few months now, and have not looked back. A lot of people would cringe when you say touch screen, but Acer seems to have perfected the technology. The wireless keyboard and mouse are far better than ones I have previously owned, and respond well. When you first turn this computer on you are amazed at how clear the picture is, compared to a standard computer monitor, the software runs well and don?t seem to clash with one and other. The onboard speakers could be a little better but they do the job well. You cannot plug this unit directly to a normal TV but why would you want to as the screen size is 23-inches, on the right hand side of the unit you get a headphone socket, and mike jack, you will also find a switch that turns a light on just above the speakers, press it again and the feet light up, hit the switch again and you can have all three light on, and I must say that watching a movie in the dark with these on looks cool, also on the same side you have a SD socket where you can plug in your SD cards to upload your pictures ect. On the front of the unit you get a built in camera which you can use as a webcam and even take pictures of yourself, it also has a built in microphone for MSN or other sites you may use
On the rear you get 4 USB sockets, and 4 Audio sockets, 1 LAN socket, 1 eSata socket, a TV tuner socket for your Freeview, and 1 IR Blaster socket. On the left side of the unit you have another two USB sockets. The computer also boasts a built in WIFI which is connects well to WIFI signals and is also the fastest WIFI I have ever seen. This is the first computer I have had that runs windows 7 and I was a little cautious as I was not impressed with Windows Vista when it came out. But to my surprise I found that Windows seven is a great program. One of the things you will notice about this computer is how fast it comes on; you?re not waiting around for programs to load like you have to on some computers, you just press the power button and within seconds the computer is ready to use. Connect an aerial to this unit and you will receive Freeview, and I have to say that the signal on this unit is strong, I got 99 channels when I plugged mine in, and the picture is crisp and clear, you can pause and rewind live TV, you can also record any programs you want to the hard drive and watch them later or burn them to disk. I have tried hard to find faults with this unit, and could not find any. I am more than happy with this computer, as I?m sure you will be, my advice go and get one, they are a great price and a bargain for you penny?s. -
