"$3000 lemon"
Pros: looks good
Cons: (almost) everything else is bad
Summary: I purchased this computer which turned out to be ~$3000 with upgrades. I had previously had a custom built Alienware computer (I paid about $4200 for that system) which I used for almost five years with no problems at all so I was looking forward to this new computer which, in my opinion, looked great. Boy did I not know what I was getting into.
They shipped the computer in a timely manner but it was dead on arrival. The thing would not boot up. The tech support representative I spoke with was relatively unhelpful and I had to send the computer back. It took another two weeks for me to get the computer back.
It works but occasionally the computer will lock up or give me the blue screen of death. I really don't want to deal with tech or customer support, and since it doesn't happen all too often, I just ignore the problem. I am not tech-savvy; I am a computer dunce. This is why I fork over a lot of money for a computer- I just don't want to deal with computer problems.
So one day the computer powers on but doesn't start up (black screen). Monitor works fine when I tested it elsewhere, so it's not that. I call tech support and the person I speak to is very nice and helpful. We try a few things but I don't have any tools so I can't remove the video card. I tell him I'll call back later and he tells me to ask for him when I do. 'What a nice guy', I think to myself.
I get the tools from a friend and call tech support again. The guy who picks up sounds tired and annoyed and tells me that the person I spoke with earlier is not available.
We try everything (this guy is extremely unhelpful and won't describe what anything looks like to me) but it's a no-go. I have to send this computer back in. It's been 2 months since I've had this computer, which I've already sent it once for being DOA, and already it's borked. Not to mention random lock-ups and blue screens on a brand new computer. It's terrible.
I should say that when I received this DOA, I asked for a refund but was told they would charge me a 15% restocking fee. Perhaps I should have just done that and purchased a computer from a different manufacturer. Would have sure saved me a lot of time and effort.
