    "GREAT Product, HIGH Price"

by Watapata on April 14, 2005

    Pros: You CAN'T find better

Cons: It has a high price tag

Summary: I bought my Alienware PC after a TON of research. I looked at every company I could think of, all the major ones included (yes this means Dell, HP, Sony, and so on...). I built the best computer I could with each of these companies as well as Alienware. Then I compared the specs and prices of each one. The fact is that if You are going to buy a PC from a major company, you're going to pay through your nose for this kind of performance. Also, while I could come close, I could NOT match the performance of the Alienware with any customization of ANY of the computers offered by any of the other companies, yet quite often Alienware wasn't the most expensive. Buying a Dell or buying such and such computer from such and such company, you are not going to top the amount of performance you get here. Yes you can build a computer of comparable or greater performance on your own for a significant decrease in cost, but then you don't have it backed up by Alienware's top nothc customer service. I've noticed other people here have had problems with Alienware support, but if you spring for the warranty (even if you don't really...) you can't regret it. EVERY time I have run into a problem with this computer, it has been a product of something I did unknowingly and EVERY time, Alienware tech support has been right there and helped me through it. Even when my hard drive died, they sent me a new one and guided me through installation, or when I killed my BIOS, they helped me through the resetting process. I have had to call customer support for numerous comapnies for many different products and I have never once encountered a support group like Alienware's. They have far and away the best I've seen. This is a great product if you prefer to buy or build, and you won't regret the purchase. It may be expensive, but no more or less than most of the other companies out there.

my gf just bought a computer from them for over 4k and it strangely enough had a problem we had to contact customer support for within the first week. It then failed completely JUST in time for the end of the month. Doing business this way is unacceptable. Even dell's warranty is over 30 days. What is up with Alienwares supposed customer support superiority.

This whole review seems fishy. I wonder if Alienware is creating accounts on Cnet to try and boost the horrible reviews/ratings that their getting, lol.

Anyways, if any of this is true, consider yourself lucky you got ANY help from Alienware's customer service, because from what I've read around here, you're the first.

    Dead BIOS

    Dead Hard Drive

+ More that you're not mentioning, right?

All for over $5k. Wow, dood, you should have gotten a Dell. Well maybe not a Dell, bet at least your money's worth.

From what you are saying, you bought a POS and they (Alienware) have great customer support for that POS. And if I read your review wrong, they have great customer support for stupid people who keep screwing up their great (and VERY pricey) machines.
