"Sloppy build, argumentative, unfriendly tech support"1.0 starson by Alchemedes
Pros: can be gotten at good price through the Dell outlet
Cons: Tech support can cost you more than money
Summary: Just got my Aurora R4. Very excited. Bought from the Dell outlet. Something in the setup didn't look right. Found tech support number and called.(A challenge since the support phone numbers are not easy to find. I guess Dell wants you to fix it yourself on the web.) Tech person said he wouldn't help. Said that the sloppy system setup "wasn't a warranty issue", he wouldn't help walk me through fixing it, and started to quote company rules/regulations/policies. Guess he is a pre-law student. I said I paid for Alienware premium support. He said that (his not helping, and quoting rules to me) WAS the premium support. I then asked about upgrading the video card with one I already had and he quoted more rules telling me he would not even walk me through unplugging the existing card and plugging in the replacement unless I had bought it from Dell. I really wanted to keep this computer. I've used Dell exclusively for years and years. But support used to be helpful and at the very least not hostile.
If you are a power user, and don't need the support, then this may be a good choice since you can get them relatively cheaply. If however you are like me, and either don't know enough or don't have the time to be an expert, then I suggest you look elsewhere. That is what I am doing. Mine is going back to Dell
