"Shame on you, CNET" on by dhwlaw
Pros: I've got the i7 processor, and it's spectacularly fast. The new mouse works amazingly well.
Cons: A bit pricey.
Summary: Best all-in-one solution available.
CNET: In rushing to publish your review, you didn't review the top-of-the-line iMac and wasted a good portion of your review complaining they didn't have quad core available when they obviously do. The review needs a do-over!

HI i am ravi padiyar from ujjain in India
I am having difficulty in transferring my old data from windows to MAC, just made the switch can you help.
thanks -
The i7 is nearly AUD$300 more and is completely different to what the heading of the review CLEARLY states, why not talk about how a MAC Pro is better???
-
Why does this review come up as most helpful when it is basically false?
-
I own several Macs Unix can not multi task as fast and efficiently as a windows based system no matter what processor you through in it. I have a lower grade windows laptop with a AMD AthlonX2 2Ghz and blows My 27 Imac away in speed and multi tasking.

Thanks for taking time to read the posts and clarifying, Rich.

HI, this is Rich Brown, author of the review. I posted earlier in this thread, but wanted to put in an update and a few clarifications.
First, corrections to the AppleCare issue and the networking specs are incoming. I can't make them directly, but a misdirected email from me to our copy edit department Thursday morning prevented them from posting sooner. They're in process as I type this though.
As to the quad core issue, as stated below, this criticism suggests the OP missed the paragraph in the review that deals with the quad core chip. It's the second paragraph under the CineBench performance chart that begins "We can hear the Mac faithful groaning..."
I repeat what I said earlier in this thread: This is a review of the $1,699 iMac only. The $1,999 model is the one that comes with a Core i5 chip by default, with an option to upgrade to core i7. We will be reviewing that when it gets here.
Thanks,
Rich -
can you please run istat nano and post the temps normally and running toast to convert a movie or any other cpu intensive task please!
http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/istatnano.html <-- istat nano
i looking to buy one and i really want to see the temps. -
Also a disadvantage was AppleCare cost was more.. It's always been $169 and with that you can have someone come to you (pending you live within 50 miles of an authorized repair center). Regardless a few misses in it

That's the very first thing I noticed. The quad-core i5 processor comes standard in the 27" model. Way to go, CNET.
-
I actually am not particularly fond of Apple products per se; I'm using it as a Windows 7 machine as well as OSX. (I got it through a special promo event.)
My point to CNET was simiply that the reviewer obviously wasn't aware an i7 configuration was going to be made available at the time of the review and they should have updated it accordingly before posting. -
quad more not available until november. That being said, dnftt.
-
you can get a 27 inch iMac with a Quad-Core i5 or i7. Check the Apple website:
http://www.apple.com/imac/performance.html
however, you do have to wait until November for it to ship. -
yack! what a shame.... busted lying.
-
If you really have the version with the i7 processor, then you have an even more remarkable device at your disposal, to wit, a time machine.
-
There won't be a i7 iMac and the i5 version isn't out yet so your review should be removed, it's a lie.
-
Shame on yourself, sir/madam.
This is review of the $1,699 iMac, and the $1,699 iMac only. And as this model doesn't have a quad core CPU, when $450 PCs and $699 Mac clones do, yes, we find the lack of quad core worth pointing out.
We'll get to the other default models, including the $1,999 Core i5 version, as soon as Apple sends them to us. -
You sound like a desperate iMac fanboy suckling on Apple's sac. Honestly, the thing is great and all, but Apple is still retarded for not putting a blu-ray drive in considering it can display "better than HD" resolution with the number of pixels it boasts. That alone just makes it a pretty device that comes short, yet again. First they mess on upgrading the 3rd iPod Touch, making the Nano have a camera and radio (!?); then they do this. Bad apple indeed, this is why I'm sticking with my PC. Apple has great products, but they could always be better, they're just finiding ways to hold back so they can upgrade later and take more of you money. You're a fool for not realizing this. Why do you think their logo is an apple? For one reason. It's the same trick used in the Garden of Eden. They're the snake, and your the dumb woman who can't help but take a bite into their forbiden fruit, and you're falling for it, time and time again. Think about it.
-
Considering that the i5/i7 model doesn't even ship until sometime in November- I very much doubt you have it. Not even Apple stores have them in stock. Really not sure why you would lie about this, simply to post a fake positive review.
-
I thought the i5/i7 top of the line iMacs weren't coming out until November. Or is that only on the website and you can get one at the Apple store now?
