Pros Amazing screen, speed, front row, installed programs
Cons Limited games, limited upgrades later
Summary I have been a PC user my whole life. I have always thought about Mac but the new iMac G5 made me switch. I had been thinking about buying one for a while, but with the switch to Intel chips next year I thought I would wait. When I saw the new iMac with Front Row I could not wait anymore. It is very quick with all my favorite programs from the PC, yes all my favorites are available on Mac. It really is very, very quiet. I never noticed how noisy my old HP desktop was until I got the iMac. To all those PC users I hope you give a Mac a try. Once you do, I doubt you will go back.
Pros All-in-one form factor, built-in iSight, Apple Remote, Mighty Mouse, QUIET, bright beautiful display, fast
Cons No DVI output, need to purchase adapter for S-Video or VGA output
Summary I think this is a great blend of power and fun. It has those cool apps like Front Row and Photobooth for the consumer in us, but I also use Final Cut and Photoshop and the speed is absolutely more than adequate. I'm just an amateur at these apps, but the new iMac gets through the rendering very quickly which used to take up most of my time before. I do however wish they made Front Row so that it could record TV, but then I guess ABC would be pissed when people didn't purchase LOST on iTunes. And what's up with the no DVI output? Even my 2 year old Powerbook has it. Not sure why putting the video card in the PCI-X slot is so hyped up, so I'll just assume the graphics are coming out better. They look great, don't get me wrong, but I don't notice any huge difference. Also, this thing is dead silent while it's running. I don't hear the fans or anything.
All in all, a great machine.
Pros Comapact, Fast, Quiet, and Display looks Great
Cons Not user upgradable (except Ram).
Summary My first mac and I love it. Decided to switch to mac because of all the spyware and viruses for Windows. Haven't had any trouble in that area yet. Its very fast, and can run many applications at once. The other iMac G5 models had problems with noise level, but this one I can't hear over my refriderator. You can get away with the built in speakers but i would definitely recommend gettting a better set. Front Row works very well, as well as the built in iSight. The amount of included software is amazing more than any windows computer I've purchased and unlike windows they all work very well together. The only downside I have found it using a mac is the lack of games but unless you have to play the absolute latest and greatest you can get away with it. All in all its a extremely versatile computer and it won't take up a whole lot of space unlike a powermac or any PC desktop for that matter.
Pros Screen, Details On Pictures, Fast, Remote Control, Double Layer DVD, Mighty Mouse Standard, Keyboard Extremely Soft, iSight Camera, Thinner Than the Previous Imac G5.
Cons You Have To Pay Extra If You Want a Dial Up Modem (But Who Uses Dial Up These Days? I Just Think It Is Good To Have As A Back Up)
Summary Well, I liked this product so much that I decided to share my thoughts. I used to have a Sony Vaio FS-660 Laptop and sold to purchase this computer which I fell in love with at the store. People and friends criticized me, saying that nothing is compatible with Macs and this and that. That is absolutely not true. I have every single program I used on Windows. Microsoft Office (much better than the windows version), MSN Messenger, Windows Media Player (for wmv files), Limewire etc. I am in love with how simple Apple Computers are. You don't need to Uninstall Programs like windows does (and usually messes up your computer even if you do it right) Mac all you do is grab the program, throw it in the trash and that's it, it's gone. I also learned that you don't need to disfragment you hard drive, since apple's system already places everything in the right place. The new Mighty Mouse is awesome, has a Left and Right Button (Works just like windows) and I learned everything about this computer is 3 days.
I had purchased the previous iMac G5 17 In 2.0 GHZ and returned it when I found out that this one was released with all these gadgets and DDR2 memory ram and for less money. I purchased directly from Apple (It took a while to arrive because it came all the way from China and I paid for a 2day Delivery) I purchased an extra 512 MB DDR2 on Ebay for 40 bucks.... I will never go back to a PC again, I am really happy with macs, just a little scared about their 90-Day Over The Phone Support, thats a little scary but whatever... Don't believe what people say about Macs, they are just as compatible as a PC and sometimes their programs do just the same, they just have a different name. I've had no problems with Spywares, No Virus its just awesome. If you want to completely erase your hard drive (whenever you sell your computers or something, you know that on Windows, formatting the Harddrive, does not erase everything, people can still find your important info...Macs erase everything, they put 0's where your infos are, so noone will be able to access it) As you can tell I am extremely excited about this computer, and for the first time, I am not scared of it crashing on me.
