"Perfection. Sheer perfection."
Pros: Snappy performance, elegant space saving design and beauty.
Cons: One button mouse. Thats it.
Summary: I am a sophomore in college and have owned 2 PCs before my iMac. I was enticed to try the Mac platform following a rebate for college students plus the regular college discount. I purchased an iPod prior to switching to the Mac so I had some idea of what to expect with regards to quality and simplicity. I was presently surprised with the iMac.
I ordered the iMac only 3 days after the release of the updated models. I opted for the 20" model with a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. Only 5 days after purchasing the iMac, I had a delivery from FedEx. Immediately I noted the quality and care in the packaging. It?s obvious the computer itself would be well designed, but for Apple to actually design such beautiful packaging shows the style, class and sophistication of Apple.
Setup was a breeze. I literally plugged in the power cable and started it up. Setup took around five minutes. Popped in my batteries for the mouse and keyboard and I was introduced to Mac OS X Tiger. I instantly fell in love.
It has been one week since I received my iMac. In that week I have sold the mouse and bought the Logitech MX 1000. I kept the keyboard, as it is awesome. The iMac itself couldn?t be better. It is very fast and impressive. Simply put, my iMac just works. It is a thing of beauty in every way, from design to performance.
I was skeptical of buying an iMac after reading some horror stories about the first generation of this style of iMac G5 machines. I was set to buy a Mac mini until the release of the updated iMac. If you are worried about problems, don't worry any longer. It really does seem the iMac has been fixed of whatever problems it had. Mine is literally whisper quiet as advertised and is running cool (current temp is 126.1 F) compared to some of the old models, which ran in the 160's. The hottest I have had it go was to 158 F when running 6 programs and working with a HUGE Garage Band file and with the processor set to highest.
The bottom line is that this machine rocks. Apple has really packed a punch with the new iMac G5. Great price, performance and design make the iMac G5 the complete package and the finest piece of machinery/art I have ever had the privilege of owning.
