    Pros: Faster Processor

Cons: Do you have to ask?

Summary: Apple way too early on this one. DVDs will be around a long time. Just insured no one will buy for HTPC.

apple was away too early with floppy drives too, i remember all the moaning and griping about that. How much did you use them? Almost never, but there was endless griping about apple not putting in floppy drives. This is the same thing, people think they need dvd drives, but almost never use them

I'll agree that omitting the optical can make life a bit more difficult for some, though most HTPC owners I know who use Mac Mini's actually convert their DVDs/Blu-ray disks to a digital format specifically so that they don't have to use the physical disks. External opticals are dirt cheap--I use BD burner to convert my media and that's all it's used for. I'd rather have a 2nd HDD or SSD over an optical drive any day.

I think the new Mini is terrific--finally has some horsepower behind it. I was leaning towards eventually replacing my old Black Macbook with and iMac but as I already have a nice 27" monitor, keyboard and trackpad, think I'll be getting a Mini instead. In fact, probably use the money I would've spent on the iMac get another to replace my aging Mini HTPC.
