"Wonderful compact desktop, but inconvenient upgrades"
Pros: Fast, silent, OS X and iLife suite are tops
Cons: SuperDrive and 1 gb of RAM ought to be standard
Summary: I've purchased three Macintosh Minis for various purposes and find that this model offers a lot of performance for the buck. The Mini is ideal for basic computing needs such as web surfing, e-mail, Microsoft Office, personal media collections, et cetera.
My chief complaints are that a DVD burner (SuperDrive) ought to be standard in both models; and since the Intel-based Minis use integrated graphics, the default 512 mb of RAM is a bit thin. Sure, there are videos on the Internet that show you how to open the case to swap out the 512 mb module for a 1 gb stick, but the average user is not adept at this sort of thing. Would four screws on the bottom of the case be difficult to provide?
If Apple addressed the above concerns, I'd rate this computer a 10 rather than an 8.
