Pros The ultimate machine for video, audio, photos or any other cpu hungry type softwares. Vey easy to upgrade components (memory, dvd/blueray otical drive, snap in hard drives, no tools needed. Quiet!
Cons Very heavy, but its a desktop I will not be moving it around
Summary I upgraded from an Apple Dual 2.5ghz Power PC to the new 2008 8 core 2.8GHz I have added 10gb of memory, and have filled all 4 hard drive slots, with 500gb hard drives, 1 drive is is used for Windows XP because I do have a Windows Os type software. If you want a virtually quiet, reliable, computer that will be powerful enough to use for many years to come, and allows 32gb of memory and 4 Tb of hard drive space, this is the computer for you.
Pros Speed, design of internals, ease of expansion and quite operation.
Cons Mac Pros are pricey, but no more than comparable machines of same specs.
Summary Contrary to a review here, this workstation DOES have eSATA available. You install a ~$30 board and connect a cable to the motherboard. You then have two eSATA ports. The board is available at macsales.com
Pros Easy to upgrade, wide range expansion of the Ram, able to add three extra internal hard drives, Great air flow, and CPU Processors runs very cool.
Cons As amazing as the machine, I wish it have more USB, firewire 400 and 800 ports.
Summary I bought this Mac Pro, because I'm an graphic designer. When I work on any project, I normally run 2-5 applications at one time. Mac Pro is the perfect machine for this type of work. Although, it only comes with 2GB worth of Ram. I ended up adding 8GB (2 X 4GB module ? $275.90) worth or Ram. Now, I'm up to 10GB worth of Ram. Of course, as the time goes by, the Ram will become cheaper. I will add more Rams and Hard Drives to my Mac Pro. There's no slowing this machine down, well until you reach 32GB worth of ram. Then you just kinda stuck there, but no application in the market will ever use all 32GB worth of Ram.
Pros Huge expandability, virtually silent running, stable and reliable OS, rumored to prevent hairloss.
Cons Heavy case, expensive to buy and expand to full potential, i7 chipped version in the pipeline I suspect.
Summary Bought this beast a year ago to replace an aging iMac G5 which was getting slow at handling huge Photo Archives/Photoshop work. Added 8 gb of ram a 8800GT 512 mb GFX card and 1 TB of storage myself in 5 mins flat. The difference was spectacular, like running on mercury. Just bumped the RAM up to 16 gb yesterday for £150.i7 CPU version Mac Pro has just been released, claims to be twice as fast due to hyperthreaded 8 cores behaving like 16 and DDR3 ram at higher clockspeeds.
Multitasking monster that does everything I want in the background while I play WoW on it! Rendering Video, recording TV, backing up and archiving whole drives as background to my new life of luxury..... awesome. How did I manage before.
