"Review off basis" on by ryanjg11

Pros: Small form factor, built in wireless, low power consumption

    Cons: Performance

Summary: Why are we benchmarking this machine against desktops? Why would you run Photoshop on a micro-machine like this?

This is meant as a simple DVR, basic HTPC, or movie playback device at best. You shouldn't expect it to run head-to-head with desktop PCs.

This review should be changes to compare the Eee to other machines in its segment, i.e. UMPCs, Mac Mini, Shuttle and other tiny computers.

I also wanted to add on their comments about it being slow. I am running an EEE PC 901 laptop right now that has the same specs. It is basically the same hardware but in laptop form. This laptop is not slow. For the standard web browsing, paper writing, email check tasks that people usually do, it runs just fine. I will admit, I am currently running Ubuntu Linux: Intrepid Ibex instead of Windows, but that just goes to show you that part of the reason some systems feel slow is because of the software running on them. When I get my EEE Box, I will be doing the same to it. Wiping whatever they have installed on it and putting Linux on it.

THANK YOU! I'm glad I am not the only one that noticed how off base this review was. I personally plan to buy one of these to use as a VPN server at home. Why were all their tests involving A/V Encoding and such?! I can assure you that if your plan is to do that type of stuff, this is not the computer for you heh. This review overall is a joke. It missed the whole point of this segment of computers and as was previously stated, should have compared the EEE Box to other computers in it's segment.

I've been looking for a device like this for months; why can't tech reviewers understand the logic of these small desktops?

Of course, they are not meant to be your primary PC, but as PVR's, media players, a secondary computer in some corner of your house, they are ideal.

No, they don't necessarily have to be connected to peripherals to do the above. Yes, they save space relative typical desktop systems. And where are these cheap laptops that can match them in price? I've looked everywhere and can't find them anywhere.
