Pros 3.2ghz, 8gb, 1TB, wonderful package without alot of trialware, real fast and I like the oversize case and the way it slopes back. It has a lot of room for additional components.
Cons I had to trim the ears off the plastic hinges on the top door which allowed the door to open to 110 degrees, which allowed me to use the bottom USB slots, to use flashdrives. The computer freezes at times but always resets itself after unplugging, let it
Summary Overall, if one takes all of the components and goes to the sites where the CG5275A003 had been tested, you will find that they put a good system together at ASUS. If you want to upgrade to a i7 chip you can. I replaced the graphics card with a Nvadia Quadro FX 580 to do AutoCAD, Fusion, and MEP. I found a very small change in the quality of graphics between the onboard card and the 580, but AutoCAD recommended the change.
Pros Excellent speed, graphics and sound. This system doesn't come with alot of "bloatware" to bog down your computer. Tons of USB connectors. Extra headphone and microphone connector in the front.
Cons I had to buy an adapter to add my IDE hard drive as this unit does not have IDE connections on the motherboard. I've had no other issues. I've read stories of refurb units with parts not connected, but my refurb unit was shipped with all intact.
Summary For the money, you will not find a faster, more robust box. Processor, RAM and hard drive space are outstanding. The lack of extra crap software to bog down the system was the final selling point for me. I'm very pleased and will consider Asus when buying other computer products.
Pros i5, 8g DDR and low price.
Cons Doesn't boot up properly almost half the time. Windows Explorer jams up, denying backup and forcing a reboot. Goes into sleep mode while I"m typing.
Summary Not only do I have the nightmare of not having a reliable computer, I can't back up my files to reload the software. The service people at ASUS are incredible. One took 17 days to respond, and that response was worthless. This company has over a dozen pictures on their web page to explain how to figure out what the serial number is. None of those pictures applies to my unit, nor does the service department wish to explain how I can find the number. 2 dozen emails and phone calls and no solution. I have to instigate every discussion.
I sent a picture of the serial number sticker on the unit explaining that there was no 12 digit number where the third character was a "P." Their response? "Please respond back with the correct serial number so that we can verify warranty. I have pasted a link below showing where and what to look for." A response from me explaining the situation has been ignored. Worst service I have ever been involved with. After explaining being unable to back up my information, one person told me to just send the unit to them, now -- during Christmas! This is my business computer!
The fact that this company cannot put "SN" in front of a serial number and must put up pages on a web site to explain their convoluted serial number system should be enough to keep everyone away from ASUS.
ASUS will never get another dime of mine, regardless of the reviews. Their service is exactly the opposite of what one would want from a service department. This is the fifth product I have bought based on a CNET review, first CNET blunder.
"Excellent value."on by Brakob
Pros Fast. Good balance of features. Handles large apps easily.
Cons Don't care for the "chicklet" keyboard, but keyboards are cheap.
Summary I use the machine for developing consumer applications in C++, C#, and VB2008. It handles these tasks with ease, so I'm sure it would loaf along with speed to spare in more typical home use.
Pros Great cpu clocking speeds. Everything was smooth to setup out of the box. Came with a basic software package, windows 7 Home Premium. The EPU-4 Program is a nice add on, it allows one to optimise ones computer for power saving or performance.
Cons A little noisy. The front panel of mine will vibrate as so I have to tap on it to stop it. Otherwise no complaints.
Summary I love this computer, acording to some clocking speed programs this computer is rated in the top 20 with the intel i5. The processor overclocks automatically if you need the extra speed, standard 3.2 g with a speed boost of up to 3.5g. Plenty of HD space at 1 TB. The memory is 8g and with the extra HD space one can use virtual mem like mad. Come with a DVD multidrive which uses all the cd/dvd disc types. The tower is very upgradable, several slots if you need to add some hardware, including a space for another dvd burner.. Everything so far has been smooth sailing with this computer, I would have gave it 5/5 stars, but then there is the Intel i7 & intel XEON, however for theprice you really cant beat this.
