Review: I bought this lemon and quickly discovered how ridiculously difficult it was to get support. Things I had problems with: DVD player (won't play them), sound card (recording adds variable static), modem (2 have stopped working). This PC blue screens constantly! If you're lucky enough to get a PC without problems, great. If you do run into any issues, be prepared for long waits on hold and many "try this and call us back if you still have issues" responses. You've been warned.

My testimonialby - May 20, 2002
Pros:
Cons:
Review: It was by mere chance that I found the Atlas Micro web site on that fateful November day over 4 years ago. I was surprised that behind the "home-made" site look was a strong, professional company that had more to sell than flashy graphics. I love my Atlas PC, and through regular upgrading, its still a top-of-the-line machine. Anyone reading this, don't hesitate to buy from them. The support is great, and the sales reps are friendly, but NOTHING tops the prices they have to offer. Just coming by every once in awhile makes me proud that I own one of their fine systems, and ready to pull out my wallet yet again! If this sounds too much like PR - it's not! I really am that satisfied! Thank you Atlas Micro Logistic!

Review: The new RS 6000 PC now has a 1.4GHz AMD Athlon XP 1600+ with 40GB and a nVidia GEForce 2 video card. I Had a DELL and a Compaq before but they are nothing compared to my new Atlas Micro RS 6000...clearly all types of people will be compatible with this PC...The people at Atlas Micro are the nicest and the best support I have ever encountered...I had a 2 month wait on my DELL and it's video card stop working in like a week or so....a PC with all this hardware on it will cost you like $1300 to $2000.....disregard the price of CNET because it's not up to date...go to www.buy-atlas.com and the legendary RS 6000 is only $799 to $899....oh yea, if you live in SoCal just pick it up and you wont pay shipping.

Best overall performanceby - December 11, 2001
Pros:
Cons:
Review: We are a small private school and we were in the process of obtaining 20 systems to upgrade our old 486's. We went out and got 5 different evaluation machines from vendors such as Gateway, Compaq and smaller direct vendors like ABS and Atlas. The RS6000 turned out to be the best value and have the best overall performance. We then ordered 19 more and everyone performed the same way right out of the box. If you are a small organization and are looking for a good deal on computer product, we would definintely recommend Atlas.

Pros:
Cons:
Review: Read a lot of reviews here. The negatives must be unique units or fussy people. I custom made my machine online and got good customer support, thanks Andy. Worked right out of the box. Fan noise is minimal, do people keep their box right next to their head? Not a single complaint; nothing faulty, nothing didn't work. Got a 1.4mHz Athlon (fast), 256 RAM, 40G HD, RW drive, DVD/ROM drive, internal ZIP, NIC, 64MB Video IN/OUT card, optical mouse, standard keyboard (a bit different...so adapt), standard speakers, they threw in a microphone for free (didn't know it would be there) and Win 98. It just works great. Best machine I've ever had. Got it all for $1,100. I would (and probably will soon) by another machine from them.

Review: I was looking for a good machine at a better price, I found it in the RS6000. After reviewing the specs, and adding the items I felt were necessary for my own use, I took the specs to a local builder of computers, I was promptly told that they couldn't build my machine the same way for that kind of money. I went with the tower and O/S only w/ upgraded graphics card and 1.4 Ghz Tbird proc....what a great machine! This thing flies! Including freight, I was still under a grand, and have a better machine than anyone I know. A couple of minor glitches were easily handled by Randy and I in Tech support, and I never was on hold for more than 2 minutes in contacting tech support. I have been running it for 2 weeks, have done several hardware and software additions, and this thing handles everything beautifully! Thank you Atlas! I will be sending your site to anyone looking for a good machine at a more than fair price!

Long Term Test Resultby - September 6, 2001
Pros:
Cons:
Review: I had my RS6000 for over a year now and I am loving every minute of it. I have also added several additional cards in it with the help of Atlas's tech support and they had been very friendly and helpful. I don't understand why some of the comments are so negative, which to me I believe it obscure the truth. First of all, they do have a toll-free number. One of the comment stated that they don't have an 800 number. Duh, 877 is also free, because Telephone Company ran out of 800 numbers, just as 888 and 866. Please get your fact straight. Two, check out their BBB report. Their record speaks for itself. Three, about the support review. USE YOUR COMMON SENSE!!! Apple, Dell and Gateway are all public tier 1 company. They offer standard on-site service where Atlas offers it also with additional charge. However, they decided to compare apple to orange, namely, on-site service vs. phone service. Of course Atlas is going to score lower. However, if you look at it on a different angle, why would CNET compare this tier 2 or 3 company to the BIG BOYS? Maybe Atlas systems had impressed them enough that they want to put it in the same category with the Apples and the Dells. I don't think I am that smart. However, anyone with a half of a brain should see through that review and take things in the right prospective. Anyway, I am a firm believer in fairness so this is my take on Atlas's systems. I love my PC and I would recommend Atlas to all my friends.

No Support: Pray it worksby - September 2, 2001
Pros:
Cons:
Review: When I bought the system for my daughter, I saw the user opinion saying that Atlas support was wanting. I should have listened. Although you get a lot of hardware for your money, if you need support, you are on your own. No 1-800 number, endless waits with you paying the phone bill for understaffed tech help. We tried for FOUR months to get help!!! Finally, we replaced the defective DVD drive locally, but had to pay the full cost ourselves. When at last we were able to contact and complain to the Customer Support manage we were roundly abused. I cannot in good faith recommend this company.

Absolutely Horribleby - August 21, 2001
Pros:

Review: Worst computer I ever bought and worst "support" I've ever seen. Hardware problems with motherboard and power supply. I had to pay to send my cpu back to them to fix and it still came back with the same problem!! I am now fighting to get my money back for a computer which had problems out of the box. The parts are all very cheap, the fan is noisy, and the non-existent support greatly diminish their products. Pay attention to CNET's service review...they got an F!!! Knowing this, CNET is being irresponsible when they continually recommend their products. Now I have completely lost my faith in CNET reviews also. Buy a Dell, cost just about the same and their support and quality control more than makes up for the $ you "might" save. Also, there is a hidden price I have paid with this purchase. I have wasted weeks of time getting it fixed and hours of aggravation on the phone waiting to speak with "support".

Review: I love my computer! I ordered it on June 1 and my salesperson Mei confirmed it on the 4th, I promptly received my computer on the 15th. Just as I was promised. The monitor arrived one day later because I had special ordered a LCD one. No sweat, I hooked up my old 15" to it and everything comes right on. The next day I tried to install my old hard drive to it and found out there was a password on the BIOS. Since it was the weekend so I decided to just to send an email over and expected someone to reply on Monday. Boy was I wrong. I received an email that afternoon and all the information I needed was there. Since that time I had called tech support couple times for information on firewire card and they were always very courtious and receptive. I am very glad that I read the report by CNET. Without it, I can never dream of owning such a good computer and service at a rock bottom price.

Best experience I hadby - July 21, 2001
Pros:
Cons:
Review: Buying from Atlas is the best experience I ever had. To make the long story short, I have buy and returned more than 6 PC's the last 2 months. These are PC's from top brands anywhere from Dell to Gateway. The reasons that I return them is that they either couldn't get my orders right or the computer simply can't perform what I needed (I am using this computer to do stremming video). So far, I have found, that Atlas' Tech is the most knowledgeable of the all. In addition, if you have a question they couldn't answer you right away, they will research it and call you back instead of others making you the run around. With those name brand people, they always blame everything to the software, rather than being responsible and say "our machine is not made to do this....". A honest "we can't do this" is better than a lie "You should contact your software vendor for more info...". Anyway, I don't plan to send my Atlas machine back because I had it customized the way I want it, and it can do the things that I need. One thing to beware of: Bigger is not always better.

Review: I bought this computer because of the glowing remarks from CNet. Now I wish I hadn't. Less than a month after I got it, (last August), the first thing to go was the video card. I got ahold of support (after numerous hang-ups and busy signals). They sent a new one. Then, in April of this year, the monitor started to have these funny black and gray lines thru everything. Of course calls to tech support, (after being on hold for over an hour) didn't support the monitor going bad, so they referred me to the monitor manufacturer. They wanted me to send the monitor to them (across the country, at my expense) for them to fix it. Before I got the chance to unplug it, the whole computer shut down. I, once again, called tech support...After waiting on hold, I finally got someone. They had me run diagnostics, (unplug cards, does it beep?..etc..)...So, they determine it's the video card again. They send me a new one (took over a week, no computer)..Got the video card, and that didn't fix the problem...still no boot...Called tech support again...over an hour on hold...this time, they diagnose a power supply problem...two weeks go by and still no power supply..calls to tech support...Oh, the guy forgot to send it...3 days later, i get the power supply...doesn't fix the problem..By this time, the computer has been down most of May. Calls to tech support and I ask for the manager...Leo is the manager, and he listens to my story and decides I need a new freakin' motherboard....Whew!...a week later, I am replacing the motherboard myself (my first time!)....and voila!..this works!..I have to pay to ship the parts back that DIDN"T EVEN FIX THE PROBLEM!...Motherboard, video card and power supply, ship back across the country...TWO WEEKS LATER, the new power supply they sent me keeps shutting the machine down at random intervals....Over 1 1/2 hours on hold, hang ups and rude salesmen on the phone, until I finally contact Leo again...He ships me a new power supply, a week later..and now I am up again...What will go next?..Yer guess is as good as mine, but I can NOT reccommend anything from Atlas Micro Logistics for anyone....Poor quality computer parts...Poor tech support...and Poor overall experience..Shame on you CNet for not taking into account the overall long-term experience when recommending computers...forget Atlas and go to a reputable dealer.

Review: I was quite skeptical based on some of the more negative reviews, however, the price was right for all the upgrades I wanted and Atlas had almost all the features I was looking for in my "dream machine". I contacted Atlas about offering the ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon video card, and within a few days it was added to their on-line ordering form! That was the final missing piece. Unfortunately, the sound card wasn't working out of the box, but one e-mail and one pleasant call to Atlas Support and a new card was on its way. Other than that minor problem, I have my dream machine at last. Thanks, Atlas...

However, if you have ever call their tech support, you will notice that the first few ""Technician"" you talk to is actually reading off solutions from a database that contains all kinds of problems and they are just trying to match your problem to one of the possible solution. And many of these people has as much technical trainings as you and I. However, I was amazed by the technicians from Atlas. They are REAL techs. They were able to solve my problem like they sit right in front of my computer. I was really surprised to see a second tier computer builder to have this kinds of service. I am sticking with Atlas from now on.

Nightmare computersby - January 26, 2001
Pros:
Cons:
Review: Atlas computers are the worst computers on the market. I bought an Atlas with tons of upgrades, but when I received it the nightmare began. The computer constantly froze up when doing graphic intense work. It was impossible to watch a DVD without glitches, and even if I was running simple tasks the computer would automatically shut down. Atlas? tech support was a horrendous joke. They did anything they could to dodge responsibility. They told me to turn down the graphic accelerator, so I did and when I went to test the computer by running a game (which would always freeze up in 30 sec. or less) a window would say that it could not run a 3D game. The Atlas tech support ok, don?t try a game. I told them I spent over a thousand dollars on a computer that can?t run a game. The guy ignore the question and told me to download a program off the internet that might fix the problem and ended the call. I sent the system back. They will NOT pay for shipping for return OR for repairs. WARNING: DO NOT BY AN ATLAS COMPUTER? Your better off with a pawn shop special. SERIOUSLY.

Pros:
Cons:
Review: I have the AS8000, however all is very much the same. The machine is very fast with a somewhat noisy fan (this T-Bird chip needs to be cool). The problems of the screen window etc, are easily fixed by anyone who knows how to adjust the monitor. My machine kept locking up after a few minutes so I sent it back. They added a new and bigger fan, now all is well. THe tech folks were great and friendly. The price is right. While you can buy a Dell, etc. you will pay much more (PIII) but not have ther performance

Review: I bought mine without a monitor and picked up a cheap, good 17 inch samsung for < $200. The fan for the video card had fallen off during shipping. I opened up the computer, fixed it and all was fine. Two weeks later, the modem became very unreliable. I switched slots and all is fine. Have had no other problems for 6 months. I don't think I could buy a similarly outfitted Dell today for the same price.

Too many problems- system pausesby - November 9, 2000
Pros:
Cons:
Review: This computer has a loud fan and when the CD is spinning I have to put in earplugs. The system also has a CPU pauses that happens every 8 to 15 seconds. Frustration for 5 months of being blown off by the Atlas micro technical support with a "try this" and call us back answers, all of which have failed. Bought this computer based on CNET recommendation. Will not buy generic products based on CNET recommends again.

Pros:
Cons:
Review: The ordering process was smooth; everything was delivered in time as advertised. The only problem was a dead Microsoft mouse. I called customer service, they answered right away, were prompt in sending me a new mouse. The only problem was, the new mouse was also defective, so I ended buying one from Fry's for $14. Everything else is working great, really fast. Key is, this system is not for someone who isn't familiar with setting up a home system. Atlas' directions for set up are non-existent. But if you can find a local teen to help you with the connection of components, no problem.

Pros:
Cons:
Review: I went to my friend's place and played games on his computer. It was awesome. When he told me the price, I thought he was kidding me. He told me the web address for Atlas and I went to their website after I got home. I was so surprised and told my parents to come and see it, and they had the same reaction as I did. They called Atlas and confirmed the price, Placed an order for two new computers the next day. After two weeks, as Atlas promised, we got the systems. The systems were configured well and had no problem at all. The only time we called Atlas Tech-Support was to ask for the password in BIOS setup. Our new systems are hooked up as home networks, and my parents love them more then any other name-brand computers they've owned, believe me, they've had a lot of computers, 3 HP, 2 Dell, 3 Compaq, and 1 Sony VAIO. They think Atlas will be a big shot in the future and hope Atlas could keep the price as low as they are doing now. Comparing to Atlas computer, those name-brand computers are jokes. To Atlas, my parents wants to buy some of your stocks but not able to find it in the stocks market, maybe you are not in yet. They think you guys are doing well, so please let us know when you guys are in, our Customer ID# is 19883. Thank you, we'd appreciate it.

Pros:
Cons:
Review: Ordered computer w/o keyboard, mouse, CD-Rom, and OS. Atlas was nice enough to format the hard drive to boot up and load CD-Rom drivers even though I did not order the CD-Rom. The case is very well built and the fan is quiet. I installed Windows 98 and had no problems with setting up any of the hardware or drivers. The demo game that came with the video card was awsome in displaying the graphics capability of the Nvidia card but it seems a little fuzzy on normal windows applications. This PC is well worth the money.

Pros:
Cons:
Review: When you click the link, it gives you a pop-up (how tacky!) for another system that's the same, it just costs more. You have to look to even find this system. The HD size is assuming it's got DiskDoubler on it (didn't see 'em tell you that, but it comes preinstalled.) My video card came installed wrong, and the tech support no speeka English. If you can't troubleshoot hardware conflicts on your own, don't step into this! Dells are hardly any more, and the support (or the fact you won't need as much support) is worth the difference, trust me.

Excellent choice for the technically awareby - October 10, 2000
Pros:
Cons:
Review: I ordered a customized RS6000 system on 09/09/2000. I made several upgrades from the base system. I took the 750MHz Athlon Thunderbird, changed the RAM to 128M PC-133MHz, upgraded the HDD to the 15GB 7200RPM, downgraded the video card to eVGA TNT2 M64 32MB AGP, upgraded the sound card to Creative SB 128V PCI 3D, changed the modem to Motorola 56K v90, removed the speakers, keyboard and mouse(I got myself a nice IBM keyboard and a Dexxa Optical Mouse) and all software. I also ordered a monitor from Atlas, but it did not arrive with my system and I cancelled the order for it and ordered it from another place. So, onw about the system. I read about a very noisy fan in other reviews. This is untrue - the fan is perfectly fine and works very quietly. I also opened the system to check if everything was fastened well, and it was, so I don't know what some of the people are talking about in their reviews. The cabling was also perfect. As I ordered the system with no software I had to install it myself, and that was no problem. The system came with drivers for all perripherials and so far Windows 98 SE has not crashed even once, which is quite a thing to say. The only problem I had was with the Motorola modem, which did not want to work, because of IRQ mismatch. I had to move it to another PCI slot, and everything was fine. I would suggest that you chose another modem, whose IRQ can be forced with a jumper. Oh, by the way, I seeked assistence from the tech support of Atlas about the modem, but they were not able to help me with it. They were making me do things I had already tried, so I just decided to do it myself, and I did it. The system has been blazingly fast for all applications I've run on it so far. Overall, I am extremelly satisfied from what I bought. It definitely is not one of those systems that comes with a big map of all devices and colored connectors, but I don't like those anyway. They come with all kinds of useless preinstalled software and crash all the time (HP, Gateway, Compaq for example). If you want really your own computer, "create" it yourself! And Atlas allows you to do that.

where was the call back???by - September 26, 2000
Pros:
Cons:
Review: I think the machine is fine, for the most part. I wish I had spent a little more time in the configuration of the system before buying it, but that's not my main complaint. It's that my monitor wouldn't turn on the second time I tried to use my machine. I called the tech-support line and was passed to someone who sounded like he could help me. My mistake. He told me all the procedures I had to go through, in a fast and confusing sort of way, then said he had to call me back in fifteen minutes to get a number for me. After 45 minutes later I had to leave my phone. That was about two weeks ago, and no sign of a voice mail or note. I left my phone number with the guy, so I'm sure he has no excuses as for no call back. I wish I could say to everyone that Atlas is a great buy. I think it can be great, but you're just not going to get any help whatsoever after you get your machine. And think that's a critical loss of value right there.

I'm happy thus far!by - September 16, 2000
Pros:
Cons:
Review: Thus far (a month into my new machine?s life), I?m a very satisfied Atlas customer. On 8/11/00, I ordered the following configuration for $1,476 "delivered price" (includes $110 shipping): an AMD 750 "Thunderbird" (whatever that means) Processor w/133 mhz bus; 128 MB SDRAM PC-133 mhz, 16x64; 20 GB 7200 rpm HD; 19" .26 dpi Sceptre (5-yr independent warranty) monitor; 32 MB Nvidia TNT2 M64 WINDVD AGP video card; Creative Labs Sound Blaster 128V 3D sound card; V.90 modem;56x CD-ROM;100 MB Zip; Win 98 SE; Word Perfect Office 2000 suite; Norton SystemWorks (but an outdated version); The usual sundries (3-button scroll mouse, kbd, mic, cheap speakers); 300 watt, 3 empty bay, 4 open slot mid-tower case w/USB, game port, etc. It was my ninth system purchased by mail, and (knock-on-wood), it arrived as promised and has performed as promised, just like its eight predecessors. Incidentally, I?d always bought a ComputerShopper in the past to find the best deal; this time I just used their website (as well as CNET?s) and plugged in what I wanted and was willing to pay. I low-balled it and that?s what led me to Altas. I then checked its reputation out on CNET and made my decision from there (afer checking a couple other ?lowest price? sites). My Atlas system arrived within the 12 business days as promised and has worked like a champ since. The customer rep, ?Will Lin,? was fun and professional at the same time. He did what he promised, and I was particularly grateful to a tech guy I got when I called in once ? through his thick accent, he candidly told me what ?extra? options were and were not worth the money (e.g., he told me to skip the more expensive, ?Robotics? modem choice unless I lived out in the rural areas). As I mentioned, I?d read the CNET postings before buying, and yeah, that fan?s noticeably louder than any other PC I?ve used, but you get used to it. In fact, I can better accept it if someone convinces me that it?ll keep my chips cooler and thus prolong system life (I read that in an earlier CNET comment, but I don?t always believe what I read). In the meantime, I have just one criticism for Atlas: I ordered extra software, and the Word Perfect Office 2000 suite was a good deal (just $14 more!) but it was not pre-installed (no big deal, but it would?ve been convenient). I also threw in an extra $15 for Norton System Works, not realizing that what they promised -- ?version 1" -- is way, way out of date (1998 version) and that my local Best Buy was selling version 3 (?SystemWorks 2000"

? though for $35 more. I sent that disk back with a letter suggesting that on its web site Atlas should make that point (i.e., that it?s selling ?stale? software) clearer to less-hip users like me (I'm not in the habit of remembering software products by their version numbers) who order directly from Atlas's web site. ?Will? promptly credited me back the $15. On balance, this was an excellent deal (though I?m sure, given the nature of the beast, prices have fallen since ? I?ve learned from experience not to look back) and I agree with other commentators that if: (a) you don?t need a hand to hold when ordering, then setting up a new system; and (b) are willing to forego the ?warm fuzzy feeling? that comes with buying from a deep pocket (like Dell, or Gateway), then buy from Atlas. The ?reward? for risking a ?lesser name? company vendor is the serious chunk of change that I saved over what Dell, Gateway, etc. wanted for the above configuration. In that respect, I took some comfort knowing that Atlas uses name-brand cards and components. Put another way, Atlas basically brought me the benefit of cheaper labor and spared advertising costs (Dell, etc., spend millions advertising; Atlas clearly does not). By the way, my last mail-order PC, a PII-266 that I bought from Cybermax in 1998, is still running flawlessly, though Cybermax?s parent company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy a few weeks back. But in 1998 I likewise saved hundreds off the price (compared to what the ?namey-er? brand PC makers wanted at the time). Still, I ran the risk of owning (and now do own) an ?orphan? PC. Again, though, Cybermax also used name-brand, third party components, so I take some comfort in the fact that the machine can be serviced locally if it ever fails me (maybe I?ve been lucky, but I?ve had very few problems over the years; I?ve generally only had to replace CD-ROM drives because my kids wear them out thru excessive use ? games, music, etc.; in my experience, if the sucker runs OK for the first 10 days out of the box, it?s going to run OK for years thereafter unless abused). The moral of the story: life is full of trade-offs. If you have a moderate amount of knowledge (?I basically just drive the cars, I don?t work on them?), buy from Atlas and encourage the very price -competition that keeps free markets healthy (I notice Gateway just announced a new round of price cuts in the sub-$1,000 PC market; we have the Atlas?s of the world to thank for that). If you?re risk-averse, then pay the premium for that ?warm fuzzy feeling? that you get when buying from a "name brand? maker.

Don't Bother!!by - September 15, 2000
Pros:
Cons:
Review: I WISH I had the Minor mouse/keyboard/fan problems! Mine hasn't worked right from day 1, between the display settings, losing all colors, or no display, modem problems, had to re-install Win98 on day 1 (per tech support). More problems, and after 3 wasted days with tech support, I ended up not even having an OS left!! Had to send back, wait 2 More weeks....received and had no display on monitor! (sure, we'll blame UPS...) For the last 2 months now, it freezes up with every little thing, loses display and all colors occassionally (even after the hassle of downloading updated drivers)...has outdated drivers on pretty much EveryThing, you need a LOT of free time to track these down! I can't have 2 internet providers, because then either can't dial in, or it disconnects every 2 minutes once on....can't install any virus protection, (and can't Return them!!) because it'll belch, gag and then lock up....can't go too fast or it freezes (what good is 700mHz and 128MB's of RAM then!!) I end up rebooting CONSTANTLY just to fix whatever today's problem is... Tech Support IS rude, and after the *2nd* time of being placed on hold for-Ever, and then finding out that the guy "went to lunch" and left me there, well, enough is enough!! I troubleshoot dozens of computers every week, so I DO know a thing or 2, and even the Worst of them has not been like this nightmare. I don't think I will be trusting that CNET Editor again, either!

Pros:
Cons:
Review: I am very happy with this machine. It works faster than the one I have at my office and has changed my mind regarding having a PC at home! For the price, you cannot find a better value. And, with the processing speed, I don't feel the aggravation that comes from waiting while things load. I used to think -- who has the time to fool around with a slow machine in their spare time and who wants to spend a ton of money just to get better performance. This machine has changes all that.

Tech/customer service is a joke, computer quality is questionableby - September 12, 2000
Pros:
Cons:
Review: The computer completely crashed after I installed a card. Because the monitor wasn't working, the tech support guy suggested that I "go to CompUSA, buy a cheap video card that I can return, and see if it works with the new card." Okay. . .Luckily, I had a card already and actually tried that. When that didn't work, he suggested "How about I send you a new power supply." I say, "The computer has power . . . why would that do anything." He replies, "I don't know." The moral of the story: if anything goes wrong (which there is a good possibility of since the tech support guys are the same ones that put the computers together!), don't even think about getting help from tech support, not to mention it will take weeks to months to get your computer fixed or replaced by these idiots.

Pros:
Cons:
Review: I just got my machine yesterday. The NEC monitor I got was on backorder and wasn't sent with the rest of the machine and they didn't tell me! Just opened the box and found that I had no monitor. Silly. I am waiting for it now. I have an old monitor, hooked up the td6000 (tweaked version) that I got and it is fast, sound blaster is worth the money. (Even though the surround sound is a little strange to figure out) Frame rate on games is awesome. But, I know why they quit carrying the Guillmot nvidia 256, it sucks (pardon). You cannot enlarge screen to greater than 800 x 600 and it will not "stay" in 32 bit color. Always goes back to 16 each time you reboot. That's unacceptable for a 32 ram vid card. My last computer had a 16 ram voodoo 3 that was only 99 bucks, and it was BETTER! I know this company did not manufacture the vid card so I'm not blaming them, but it's their product. I'm going to ask for a refund and a replacement of a different brand with the nvidia 256 chipset, even if it cost a little more. But, overall machine was good and gotta give them some credit for dumping the base guillmot. I just wish I had ordered my machine a week later and avoided the problem.

We first call the camera manufacturer and they just keep on saying that it was something wrong with the machine and wouldn't take any responsibility. We end up calling Atlas and Jeff was the technician who went through the whole installation instruction for the camera with us. It turns ut that the instruction was written very poorly and we had missed an important step. Thanks to Jeff who had been very patient with us and explained the reasons for every step that we had to do. I am very glad that we had chosen Atlas to purchase our computer.

Pros:
Cons:
Review: This is outstanding machine with a light price tag. True it needs a little adjustment out of the box, but every complaint posted here can be addressed, save for the somewhat overzealous fan. If the machine came dead in the box, UPS probably did it, try reseating the processor and PCI cards. If the screen is distorted change the refresh rate to 75kH, until you can download a newer driver. If windows repeatedly reboots, download the Windows Shutdown Supplements from microsoft. To solve game crash issues call Atlas, I sent a detailed letter to their tech support explaining how to solve the issue. And if this reply has grown overlong I apologize. Good luck!

More problems than I really wanted to deal with...by - August 18, 2000
Pros:
Cons:
Review: This computer really sounded like a great deal when I first saw it. It seem too good to be true. It was. The first video card stopped working after 4 days. When I looked inside the box, the fan was hanging from its cords laying on top of the modem card. They sent me a replacement and it came out of the shipping box with it's fan off the board too. Monitor needed to be adjusted out of the box to fill the whole screen. Joystick/ gameport would not work. Games lock up in the middle of playing them. Modem takes many tries to finally get logged on. Mouse is horrible. It appears they just put a bunch of inferior parts together and are trying to pass it off as a computer. Does anything just plug in and work anymore? This machine is not for the impatient or the novice. I hope Atlas has learned its lesson with the Guillemot Prophet 3D card. Definitely would not recomend this to anyone.

A fantastic system with a few support shortcomingsby - August 13, 2000
Pros:
Cons:
Review: What a great system. Although, when I called to order I was told the 700 Mhz chip was no longer available and I had to pay $50 dollars more for the 733. I wasn't told it would take two weeks to deliver my system until after my order was made. The fan is a bit loud but it doesn't keep me awake at night. The speakers and mouse are only adequate but I like the keyboard. The 17" screen is vibrant once you adjust it. Tech Support takes some hold time and weekend support would be nice. The modem needed to be reseated and the heat-sink popped off of the video card during shipping but tech support walked me through each of those problems. All in all, I'm happy.

Excellent system, but not for techno-phobesby - August 11, 2000
Pros:
Cons:
Review: I've had my system for the better part of two weeks now and I am extremely happy with my choice. Yes, the fan is a little louder than most systems I've encountered, but for what I'm getting v. what I paid, I'll learn to live with it. One caveat: if you have no experience in setting up a PC system, make sure you have a friend or family member available to do it for you. The biggest liability in mind with this system is that there is NO supporting documentation whatsoever. If you need (or looking for) something along the lines of an IMac and its ready-out-of-the-box design, you'll probably be extremely disappointed if not very frustrated with Atlas. But all things considered, it's an awesome system and a hard to beat price.

Review: After I have order my machine, I have seen some of the people wrote about the noise problem, I was quite concerned. However, when I received my computer, I realized that some of you overstated the problem. Sure it is a little bit more noise than my old computer, but, it doesn't sound like a 747 and like the other reader wrote, it is just because the dual fan Atlas installed to prevent any degradation of the CPU. Besides this issue, the computer runs great. I am very happy with it.

A good deal for the advanced technicianby - August 9, 2000
Pros:
Cons:
Review: I saw some other users comments who had the same problems I did. The computer would not boot upon receipt. After spending time trying to solve the problem on my own I had to call their tech support because there is no manual to tell me what the diagnostic beeps meant when it was booting up. Found out from their tech support folks that my video card became unseated. I cracked the box open and reseated all the cards which corrected the problem. I found the reason the cards came unseated, THEY BARLEY FIT IN THE SLOTS. The computer case manufacturer did a shoddy job aligning the slots with the cards on the mother board, it is almost impossible to get the single screw into the cards mounting bracket hole which is supposed to keep the cards in place, tightening the screw will actually pull the card out of the slot because it can only be seated at an angle if you tighten the screw. I also found that the little cooling fan on the video card had broken mounts and was dangling upside down in the case, though I was impressed that the video card a fan at all. Louder than usual fan noise because of the dual-CPU cooling fans but not noticeable when the computer is sitting on the floor under a desk. The computer did reboot on its own a couple of times but that problem seemed to disappear (I hope). The sounds system is excellent and the monitor is very nice, unbelievable you even GET a monitor with a computer of this performance at $999. Keyboard and mouse may have appeared a little rickety but not a big deal at all, they work fine. Tech support only available during business hours which is NOT when most of us are at home working on our computer. But the tech support folks were very knowledgeable and freindly. Average wait time for my 2 calls was 10-22 minutes.

Graphics are great. Monitor fine after adjustment. I've read aboutit being loud, seems fine to me. Review: I bought 2 Athlon 750 w/Geforce 256 card. Box only. Model A4605. Both systems came on at VGA 16 color mode and would not go any higher without freezing up. Obviously no one tested the setup in high res mode. I had to download the latest drivers from the video company to get it to work at hi res. But that didn't work for long. It still locked up until I got the latest 4in1 BIOS files from VIA chip set company. That fixed the first one. I never did get the second one from locking up. Even after working on it for 3 DAYS and talking w/Tech support for 2.5HRS!! I had Primary and Secondary controller conflicts that never got fixed. I have a cable modem and tried to add a Linksys and 3COM network card to no avail on the second system. I used an Intel netcard on the first one and is OK. I'm sending the second one back for a refund!! Hint: If you plan on using the computer on a network, let Atlas install the netcard. Windows 98SE will not let you install NETWORK NEIGHBORHOOD after. You must re-install all of Win98 to get your ICON for NETHOOD.. My advice: If you are good at hardware/software debugging GO FOR IT. If you are a typical user that has no idea what's inside STAY AWAY!!

He was very helpful and knows how to treat people. But my experience with tech support was horrible. Problems with the computer rebooting are not atlas fault. Go to Microsoft, it?s a windows 98 SE problem and they have a fix. I found this out because I refused to call tech support. Review: I thought I was in trouble when my computer arrived with beeping sound and no screen. I called Atlas at once and as soon as the technician on the line heard of my problem, he quickly told me that my video card must have popped loose due to the abuse done by UPS. At first I was skeptical and wasn't about to open up the computer by myself (I have no idea about fixing a computer). However, Leo, the customer service person assured me it was an easy task and he would walk me through the complete process. Boy it was a breeze. A pair of philip screw driver and couple minutes later, my computer is up and running and I also got a lesson in computer hardware as Leo pretty much told me all of the component that is inside of my computer. Apparently, according to my friend who came by yesterday (he is a computer consultant by trade) and opened up my computer, that the reason why it is more noisy than the old computer is because it had a DUAL CPU COOLING FAN on the CPU. He told me that it is very important to keep the CPU cool. When CPU does not get proper cooling and get overheated, it will shorten the processor's lifespan. He was very impressed with the one Atlas had in my system. He told me that the dual fan plus the large heat sink should be capable to keep even the 1G Hz CPU cool(I only had the 750MHz Athlon). Upon hearing that, suddenly the noise sounded more that music to me. Hey, I would rather have a properly cooled computer over an overheated quiet computer anytime. Btw, my keyboard and mouse is just fine, what's up with all the fuss?

Noisy but a great machine for the moneyby - July 26, 2000
Pros:
Cons:
Review: If you dont want to empty your pockets for a computer you should definetly buy from atlas. there are some kinks you have to work out at first but once everything is done you'll be happy. its very fast and at 999$ its a great deal. you should certainly look into buying one of these. but whats all the fuss about the keyboard and mouse? i think they are fine.

Noisy with a cheap Monitorby - July 26, 2000
Pros:
Cons:
Review: The system is fast, but you better spend more money than what is standard with it - like a better mouse and keyboard, definately a better monitor, and the speakers and subwoofer stink. I returned my unit for full credit and guess what - I got billed for 2 systems instead of getting credit for one. I bought a Dell and believe me you will not be sorry!!

Solid Machine!by - July 18, 2000
Pros:
Cons:
Review: Just got my machine today and I am in love already. I was supposed to wait for my boyfriend to put it together tomorrow because I don't know too much about computer. But, I couldn't wait! I decided to tried to put the machine together myself. To make sure I am doing the right thing, I called Atlas for help. Leo(technician) picked up the phone right away and he was very courtious. In 5 minutes I am on the internet chatting with my friends. Wow, I have never been treated so nicely and promptly. When I had to call for technical support for my printer, I was on hold for over 45 minutes. At least when I call Atlas, I get a real person instead of recording. Anyway, I really love my computer and I am going to get another one for my younger sister.

Good Value for Priceby - July 18, 2000
Pros:
Cons:
Review: Machine was good value for money. Components were as spec'd. Very clean machine, good service. Issues: Tech support was helpful - allow 24 hours for email turnaround from tech support (2-3 hours for sales) - call during business hours PST. UPS ground will take at least a week if you are on east coast (it goes by truck and seems to disappear for 2 to 5 days on their tracking system) Set up was correct (I upgraded to SB live value and had 2 NIC cards rather than a modem), I suspect they monitored these comments since I noticed they fixed several issues that were mentioned here. Comments of Kosmic (keith.manning@home.com) were right on regarding setup of Nvidia card. Upgrade of the EPOX 7KXA (via 4 in 1) is optional in my opinion. I would buy here again.

Great deal but not a machine for the faint-hearted.by - July 16, 2000
Pros:
Cons:
Review: This computer is a bargain for the price but definitely only for someone who doesn?t need a lot of hand-holding when it comes to setting up and maintaining a microcomputer. They provide no, I mean NO, documentation other than what comes from the component manufacturers (mother-board, CD-ROM Drive, etc). In fairness, their tech support people are accessible (but only during normal west-coast business hours) and correctly answered a couple of questions I had. Everyone I talked to at Atlas is nice, and really tried to be helpful and they also came through with everything they promised. This is also one of the few computers I?ve seen where you can get the case opened in under a minute without breaking a couple of fingernails and uttering a string of obscenities.

Get a real PC that worksby - July 13, 2000
Pros:
Cons:
Review: The screen is distorted on the sides. Machine reboots several times before getting into Windows (if you're lucky). Keyboard is not standard: There is additional keys were you expect other keys to be. Mouse driver not working properly. Computer fan very very noisy (Do you like the sounds of a Jumbo 747, this computer is for you!). Tech Support? What tech support? People: Don't make the mistake i made. Buy something decent. It's just not worth it (consider a Dell or a Micron, they are quite reliable in my experience). Or build something yourself out of decent parts. I guess you get what you pay for.

"It's a gamble."by - July 12, 2000
Pros:
Cons:
Review: I got the computer after 1 month of waiting. I set it up and the modem and the floppy drive did not work. After a weekend of trying to fix it myself, I finally opened the case. The modem and the floppy drive weren't connected!!!!!!!!! A small detail overlooked by Atlas. My friend also purchased an Atlas computer and is sending it back because it freezes up every 2-3 minutes. He told me that there support is terrible. So I gambled with atlas and am happy with the computer, my friend gambled and is out the $200 he spent in shipping. If you buy an Atlas computer be prepared to have to do a little work.

Great Box for the money!by - July 11, 2000
Pros:
Cons:
Review: Resolved initial difficulty with ethernet card installation which I think was caused by bad advice in the installation guide. Other than that problem, everything else works great. Very fast vs my PII 400. Re: the Lan card, have them install it. I am using a Netgear card for DSL. They can be a hassle to configure yourself. Don't use IPX-SPX protocol even if the book says so. Use NetBUI, TPCP-IP, Microsoft Client for Networks, Dialup adapter.

Where else can u find a price like this?by - July 10, 2000
Pros:
Cons:
Review: I recently bought my computer from Atlas Micro Logistic Inc. I must say that it is impossible to find the same great price for the same great product anywhere else! I shop around quit a lot before i make my decision, and Atlas was my final choice. Their sale reps were very infomative and polite. They do not try to push the sell of anything that I really don't need. I tried their tech support line and I got connected to a real person under 5 minutes!!!! All I can say is that I'm happy with what I got.

AMD Rules!by - July 8, 2000
Pros:
Cons:
Review: The RS6000 sounded great with the review, and it performed even better in my house. I purchased a RS6000 with 800MHz Processor in it and it rocked. I also upgraded to an NEC 19" monitor for my CAD program and I love it. Even running complex DTM (3D modeling) data to calculate hillside cut/fill for our new 240 unit residential project was a breeze. My company is now planning to purchase couple more of this machine because it's really worth the investment.

Raw Powerby - July 8, 2000
Pros:
Cons:
Review: Just got my machine today and I am already in love. I installed my favorite game re-volt in and it works like a gem. When I play it on my old PIII 550, I get all kinds of delay and dropped frames. However, it runs great with my RS6000 and I finally unlocked all the Cups. Thank you CNET in helping me getting a great computer and saved money.

OUI! I Love this machineby - July 7, 2000
Pros:
Cons:
Review: Never had I have a machine that runs so well and still have money left over for a Broadway show. My salesperson Andy is so helpful with all my questions that I learned more about computers in this one phone call than I have all my life. I think other company should call Atlas to find out what customer service is all about. My computer arrived 2 weeks after I have ordered and everything just plugs right in. It runs great. I would recommand this computer to all my friends.

service suxby - July 6, 2000
Pros:
Cons:
Review: After reading the cnet review of this system, I decided to order the PS6000 version which comes without the monitor and has a weaker video card. I had no idea that it would take about 2 weeks before they start shipping the product. Talk about slow service. At Onvia.com my order was shipped the second day I placed my order and shipping was free as well.

Great PC with some gotchasby - July 3, 2000
Pros:
Cons:
Review: An excellent system for the money. I mean, 700Mhz Athlon, 128MB RAM, GeForce 3D card, and a 17" monitor for $1K?!?!?!? But... as received, any and all 3D-accelerated games would lock up. Tech support was nil. Anyway, I finally got it fixed. If you run into the same problem, here's the solution: -Reset BIOS to optimal defaults -Change AGP driving to MANUAL -Set AGP driving value to A8 -Apply VIA AGP 4.03 update -Go to safe mode and... -Update display driver to Standard PCI -Remove all files on C: starting with nv*.* -Remove all references to nvidia in the registry -Reboot (if it automatically replaces the display driver, you didn't get all the file removed) -Download and update video driver to nVidia Detonator 2 5.30 Beta That's all there is to it. It just took me 3 days, a lot of Deja News searching, and almost useless tech support.

misconfigured system and bad supportby - July 2, 2000
Pros:
Cons:
Review: Bought a PS-6000. Right out of the box, the Windows98 operating system was freezing. After 1 week of BAD technical support, wiping the hard-drive and reinstalling everything fixed it. The company appears to consist of 2-3 overworked employees [Sales = Andy, Customer support = Leo] who apparently don't have time to properly configure the systems... Forget technical support outside of business hours... they're closed. The company makes YOU pay for any returned item shipping costs.

Great Budget PC!!!by - June 9, 2000
Pros:
Cons:
Review: Another leap for AMD as they proved to provided the best price/performance CPU in the high-end market. The new AMD Duron and T-Bird will leave the competition in the dust. Now that you can have a very fast PC at the price of *ntel's low-cost Celeron.
