It's six of one and a half-dozen of the other with the low-cost Dell Dimension 3000. This desktop is a well-supported budget system that offers a great degree of configurability, but when it comes to features and performance, the 3000 loses out to its budget competitor from eMachines. At $636, our Dimension 3000 test system is a bit more expensive than the fixed-configuration $599 eMachines T3256, but its only advantage is the fact that Dell includes a monitor in its price (though it's a puny, 17-inch CRT). Dell is often the cost leader when it comes to desktops, but eMachines has it beat in the budget class.

The Dell Dimension 3000 is based on Intel's 865G chipset, which offers plenty of benefits, such as support for dual-channel, 400MHz DDR memory and Intel's Extreme Graphics 2 technology. But we were miffed to see that the motherboard does not provide an AGP slot for graphics card upgrades. (Although Extreme Graphics 2 is an improvement over Intel's previous integrated graphics chips, it still has limitations.) The same is true with the floppy-drive slot: unless you have Dell install one at the time of purchase, the slot comes blocked and is therefore useless to you. And there's no option for adding a handy media-card reader--a choice that all of eMachines' current models offer.

As we expected, the overall performance of our test system was unimpressive, but it also fell surprisingly short of the showing by the AMD Athlon-based eMachines T3256. And don't try to run any serious games on the Dimension 3000: its 13.5 frames-per-second (fps) frame rate on our Unreal test demonstrated a major liability in this department, while the eMachines scored closer to 30fps on the same test. Neither system is a good bet for playing the latest game titles, but the T3256's score indicates that it has a superior graphics subsystem in the Nvidia GeForce4 MX to that of the Dimension 3000's Intel Extreme Graphics 2.

The Dimension 3000's main attraction is the fact that it's highly configurable via Dell's Web site, while retail systems such as the eMachines T3256 ship as is. Our Dimension 3000 test system came with a 2.66GHz Celeron processor, 512MB of RAM, and DVD-ROM and CD-RW drives. You can, of course, configure it with a faster processor, including Pentium 4 chips, more memory, and higher-end optical drives. You'd do well to upgrade the tiny 40GB hard drive found on our test system, which provides a quarter of the capacity of the T3256's drive. For businesses looking for an inexpensive, no-frills PC, Dell's OptiPlex SX280 offers many of the same options in a much more compact case.

The Dimension 3000's design is tried-and-true, even if it's not particularly attractive--the trademark matte-black box with battleship-gray accents doesn't quite match the black-and-silver peripherals that come with it. A tool-free side panel slides open easily to reveal a roomy interior with two free PCI slots. Rear ports include four USB 2.0 connectors, while another USB 2.0 port and a headphone port adorn the front. The included Internet keyboard features the hardware volume wheel and audio buttons we've lauded in the past. Dual A215 stereo speakers provide basic sound, but Dell offers a number of options here, all the way up to a 5.1 surround-sound system for use with the optional SoundBlaster Live audio card (our test system relied on integrated sound, which provides 5.1 sound).

Dell offers a wide assortment of warranties. We suggest spending the $17 to upgrade from the weak, 90-day standard coverage to a one-year onsite warranty. (The $636 price of our test system included this upgrade.) Although competitor eMachines now offers two simple warranty upgrades, it just can't compete with Dell's many options, strong online support, and 24/7 toll-free phone support. And while our Windows XP Home system came with Dell JukeBox and Picture Studio (for playing music and fixing photos, respectively), along with the WordPerfect Office 12.0 suite, you can opt for several different flavors of more robust Microsoft productivity software.

In the end, the Dimension 3000's configuration options aren't enough to top the eMachines T3256' offerings. At roughly $600, the eMachines provides a better optical drive tandem, a larger hard drive, a graphics-upgrade path, and better performance--even if you do have to spend a little extra for a monitor. You simply get more for less with eMachines.

To measure application performance, CNET Labs uses BAPCo's SysMark 2004, an industry-standard benchmark. Using off-the-shelf applications, SysMark measures a desktop's performance using office-productivity applications (such as Microsoft Office and McAfee VirusScan) and Internet-content-creation applications (such as Adobe Photoshop and Macromedia Dreamweaver).

To measure 3D gaming performance, CNET Labs uses Epic Games' Unreal Tournament 2003, widely used as an industry-standard benchmark. We use Unreal to measure a desktop's performance with the DirectX 8.0 (DX8) interface at a 32-bit color depth and at a resolution of 1,024x768 and 1,600x1,200. Antialiasing and anisotropic filtering are disabled during our 1,024x768 tests and are set to 4X and 8X respectively during our 1,600x1,200 tests. At this color depth and these resolutions, Unreal provides an excellent means of comparing the performance of low-end to high-end graphics subsystems. We report the results of Unreal's Flyby-Antalus test in frames per second (fps).

It's cheap and it works

Pros: Comes with a low price tag. The speed is enough to get you to where you need to go. Doesn't use as much much, thanks to the Celeron energy efficiency.

Cons: It freezes quite frequently, slows down over time, and the multitasking is very limited.

Review: This computer is most certainly not a luxury good. The old saying "You get what you paid for" is quite true when dealing with this PC. One can save a lot of money on the energy bill thanks to this computer's energy efficiency. However, this computer is still relatively slow and it will slow down over time. Eventually it will reach a point where opening Internet Explorer will severely test your patience (P.S. try Mozilla Firefox, it's much faster). Even though this is absolutely not a gaming PC, I've found I could run Civilization 4 decently as long as I was playing on a small sized map. When it comes right down to it, this isn't a PC you will be wanting to hold on to for 5 years of your life. Mine was actually purchased as a quick replacement for my older computer whose hard drive failed.

5 years and still kicking...

Pros: Great tech support, been 5 years and no problems. Upgraded many parts.

Cons: Can't think of 1 over the past 5 years.

Review: The best desktop computer I ever bought. It does everything that I need and has lasted the test of time. Who said you can't upgrade this unit? I've upgraded almost everything on this computer. It say's max ram is 1 GB however, you can upgrade to 2 gb. I'm expecting this PC to last me another 5 years.

works well to this day.

Pros: quick, have had no issues. great pentium 4 ht prosseser. easy to upgrade ram.

Cons: not ment for gaming but heck dell wasn't aiming for that

Review: i have being using this desktop for 4 years. have never lost anything on it once. its very quiet and also very quick. most people dont relise that cleaning out the dust can make it quieter my dell demsion 3000 only has one fan, sure if you want to game dont get this but for older games and web browsing it works great

Great for grandma, but not for me

Pros: great keyboard, great for emails, and web surfing,

Cons: slow, cant run more then 3 programs at a time, cant upgrade your self

Review: This Pc is great for beginners, and it did its job very well; aside from being so slow and barley any space for storage. so if your planning on buying a dell make sure you all the upgrade it before you buy it...

I actually have a Dimension 2400

Pros: I have had it for over four years

Cons: little room for memory addition and low hard drive space.

Review: As of yesterday July 16, 2007 I had never had to place a call for my relaible Dell Dimension 2400. It was only within the last few months did I realise that I had to upgrade my memory and remove all of the non-essential off of my hard drive. When I first purchased the system it came with 256 RAM memory and had 80GB of space on the hard drive, and those two were not cutting it at all, my machine performance was slowing down and trying to my newer iPod on the PC was using up all of the space on the machine. I purchased a external hard drive and purchased a new memory card and the machine until yesterday had been working like a charm. Thankfully the folks at Dell were able to help me with my problem which they said was minor (thank goodness) and I will hopefully not be needing to upgrade my PC in the near future.

The Dell Dimension 3000 is a cheap and fast system with some problems, though.

Pros: Fast system with dual optical drives.

Cons: Not much memory or storage, fan/processor problems, might not shut down...

Review: At first my Dell Dimension 3000 (2.4 GHz processor, 256 MB memory, 40 GB hard drive) worked excellently. The dual drives (though they cannot do anything with DVDs, only CDs) and the disc writing software worked just excellently, likewise for Microsoft Office. It was later that the problems began to occur. The problems had to do only with the hardware, but because of the "Cons" about which I explained above, I fear that a fatal error might occur with the system sometime soon. If so, I will most likely upgrade to a Dell XPS 600.

An okay system

Pros: Comes with two CD (or one DVD) drives. Pretty good CPU that i got was 2.8Ghz

Cons: Crappy motherboard

Review: I got this back in 2004 from my grandparents. They told me they got for $400, pretty good price. Came with a 2.8Ghz CPU, which was pretty high than. My only complaint is that there is no AGP, or PCI-E for that manner, but for some reason it has an outline for one and room for it. Even says AGP in small letters engraved in the motherboard.

Definately a great buy

Pros: Exandable, great for the average home user

Cons: I'm not just a home user, and the expansions become limited

Review: I am very demanding on my computer. I bought it from eBay minus a moniter, warranty, and with a formatted hard drive. The previous owner decided to run mac on a new computer, formatted the hard drive, realized it wouldn't work, and sold it. Other than the loss of windows, the computer was unused. That said, I've done some work on it. I bought it knowing I couldn't run it as-is.
I am 17 years old, with a minimum wage job, so obviously this can't cost a ton. I still have car insurance to pay for and with gas going up, I can't afford much.
I upgraded memory to 768, upgraded processor to 2.8GHz P4, got a PCI video card (GeForce 5500), added a 200 GB hdd to the previous (totalling 240GB of hdd space), added a DVD burner, added a PCI fan and wireless card, and I can say that this thing is screaming. For a total of about 600 dollars, I've made a machine that runs faster than the HP-built machine my parents bought for a grand. This says something about the expandability of this computer. Without expanding, the kids can play games and surf the net, you can do your word processing and all of that without issue. If you're like me though, and run 10+ apps at once, some doing things like 3d renders, you'll want to upgrade. Luckily with this machine, you can do just that with little hassle.

My complaints:
No second bracket for a second hard drive, needs to be ordered from a third-party company.
Bad processor slot, but it's built for Celeron so you can't complain much if you want to put a P4 3.2GHz with HT.
No AGP slot
Not enough wattage to run all my stuff, frequent crashes with the included 250W. Purchasing a 450W in 3 days however, and for only 20 dollars it's not a big loss.

Other than that, it's a great box. Definately worth the buy, but if you want to save some money, upgrade it yourself, don't use Dell's upgrade options.

Good with upgrades

Pros: Great Value

Cons: 90 Day Warranty

Review: I use one of these as a server. I was able to upgrade the stock 40GB HDD with 160GB HDD and also dual 300GB (mirrored software raid config) on the secondary channel. I run windows server 2003. All the drivers worked fine.

The beast has been up for over a year and I have had no problems (except for ocassional restart cos of windows updates).

I have bought/worked on several Dells (20 +)in the past, and all but one gave me reliable, cost effective service.

The best thing I like about dell's are that they are very easy to work with (for upgrades, service, etc...) unlike Compaq / HP which could be a PITA.

¡Very noisy fans!, no agp, pci-e x16,x1 slots.

Pros: $499, xp professional, Pentium 4 HT

Cons: Very loud fans, except the celerons processors, Integrated Video.

Review: My dimension 3000 has very loud fans. I tried to replace the fans with a quieter fan but it didn't reduce the noise. My friend's dimension 3000 has celeron D processor. Mine is Pentium 4 HT. His 3000 is very quiet but the performance is sluggish. I would never buy 3000 with a Pentium 4 processor 'cause the cooling system is horrible.

Good basic budget dsktop, not useful for more than productivity

Pros: Good basic system when it's working

Cons: If it breaks, good luck.

Review: I got a Dell Dimension 3000 2 years ago in a special deal($399, no monitor, just CPU, keyboard&mouse, 80 GB hard drive) because some friends owned their own busineses and got the "Small Business" Dell flyers. Given what I paid for it, this system has certainly been worth it. As a basic desktop with decent software, it works fine. All the things I regularly do; web-surfing, writing & music work great. The 3D games I have slow down occasionally, but nothing very noticable and only for a few seconds.

My Dell hasn't broken down once. I haven't tried to use if for anything complicated, but I have left it on for several days in a row pretty frequently and moved it two or three times, so I'd say that it stands up pretty well.

The 3000 is a cheap budget desktop for people who just want to do basic productivity & web. At the $400 I paid for it, it was a good deal; much above that and it's not worth it. Also, Dell's are cheap, and when they go bad they REALLY go bad, so make sure that you get a longer warranty than the 90-day standard.

Dell Dimension 3000

Pros: Great Performance for BUDGET PC

Cons: Gets very slow the longer you own it.

Review: I have owned the Dell Dimension 3000 PC for about a year now. I have been impressed about how much speed this little budget pc can get. But I was very disapointed when about 6 months later it started to get slow, like most computers do after you start saving stuff to it. But this computer was different. It seemed to get more vunerable to anything that was attacking it. I am currently typing this review on my 3000. It soon becomes so slow that you must open up the Task Manager every time you start up, go into processes, and delete everything that is happening behind the scenes that you can. This is the only reason I have not enjoyed the Dimension 3000. If you want a PC where your not going to add a lot to it and if you want to buy a new PC later on, this is a good pc for you. Its also very good for beginners.

Decent after Upgrading

Pros: Price, community support

Cons: Graphics. no agp/pci-e

Review: Well i read alot of the comments on here about being unable to upgrade the graphics and thats untrue. The Dimension graphics can be upgraded with 4 different cards. ALL PCI cards mind you. They are: GeForce 6200, GeForce 5600, GeForce 5500, GeForce 5700LE.

These have all been confirmed on the Dell Community Forums as working with the Dimension 3000 PC.

Other then the graphics processor this computer is perfect for anyone except for hardcore gamers. And even some of them will be happy after upgrading the Graphics to a geforce 6200.

six of one...

Pros: relative performance for price

Cons: no AGP , or other upgrades for that matter

Review: Owning a computer got me interested in computers, the computer I bought was the Dimesnsion 3000. But as soon as you want to do something with it that demands any amount of processing power beyond that of Quickbooks, Wordperfect, or as an internet connection, it fails. It cannot mangae the most simple of upgrades and does not come with an AGP slot (as the reviewers complained) if you are like me and get curious, this computer will not satisfy your curiosity, it will squelch it. I got what I could get out of it with an ATI Radeon 9250 256 MB and an X-Fi Xtreme Music, this may be as beefy as the thing can get and the performance is marginal with these components added in, not to mention the driver problems and hellacious customer service, overall don't buy it, you're an intelligent creature, satisfy your curiosity.

Wonderful Buy!!!

Pros: Get's the job done. It's fast and never has crashed on me.

Cons: Don't have any.

Review: I don't know what everyones problem is with this machine. I have it for months now and it has never crashed or given me one moment of worry. Dell continues to wow me with their dedication to quality!

Excellent Machine

Pros: Speed, stability, dependability, features, looks, support, price

Cons: Plastic case buzzes just a bit

Review: Owned this for over a year and have had ZERO problems out of it from the start. Very fast and reliable, in fact I was so impressed with Dell that I just purchased a Notebook from them. Can't believe all the negative reviews that I have read here, as this has been a very good machine. P4-3.0ghzHT 512mb 30gig HD, 17" Flat Panel.

Very Slow System

Pros: Looks and nothing else

Cons: Everything else

Review: I bought this computer because of its price. I even upgraded the CPU to 3.0 GHz, added memory to 512 MB and increase hard drive to 80 GB. It was supposed to be the fastest system in the office but I was disappointed. It takes forever to load a web page and even explore your own hard drive or your network. I tried to delete all the added software loaded with it like AOL, Quickbooks, etc. I even removed the McAfee anrivirus thinking that it might be the cause but to no avail. This is unbelievable. My other systems are 700 MHz and 900 MHz Celeron with 128 MB and 256 MB RAM respectively are comparably faster than this system. I've scanned it for virus, spywares, and trojans but to no avail. By the way, Dell installed its own spyware, MyWay, which you cannot uninstall. I will never recommend this computer to anyone. I never thought that a good name like Dell can release a unit like this. Added to that misery, the CDR/CDRW just quit working and it is beyond warranty which is 2 months. That is the shortest warranty period I've ever heard of! The customer support is asking me if I would order a replacement, and my answer is a big NO! Replace it with another junk?

My college pc = a small loud black box

Pros: uses NEC and Sony parts, small tower, and my old dell lasted forever

Cons: loud as heck, poor constrction, pathetic tech support

Review: My dimension 3000 cost me $830, a little high for its class, but i put some good stuff in it.

Pentium 4 HT 3.0GHz
512Mg DDRAM
DVD ROM
DVD R/RW + CD R/RW
Audigy 2 Sound Card
Intergrated Graphics

The box vibrated the first time i turned it on, sometimes whack it to make it stop. The variable fan will sometimes rev up at night for no reason at all, which keeps me from leaving it on at night. Now, the front fasod is vibrating sometimes too.

When the computer freezes (yay for windows) i often have to unplug the computer because the off button won't work, even after holding it awhile.

Don't buy any tech support warranty.
Their help is useless to anyone who knows what 'msconfig' is. I tried to get them to help me make an adhoc network between two dells for file swapping, and all they did was juggle me around 'Software' and 'Hardware' support for a few hours. I don't know who trains these ppl, but they should understand that hardware and software work together.

The one thing I can say that is geat about Dell, is that my old Pentium II computer is still going strong and if that is something important to you, give dell a try. Otherwise HP and maybe even the low-balling e-machines might have something better for you.

Contrary to popular belief it plays games!!!

Pros: lightning quick, decent integrated graphics chip

Cons: pack-in apps suck, no room for floppy

Review: It DOES play games. This computer offers serviceable gaming performance with a lot of today's games. I play Starwars: Battlefront, Unreal Tournament 2004, Rome: Total War, Max Payne 2 and many others on this PC. It performs smoothly with all the settings on max except in Battlfront and HUGE battles on Rome: Total War(don't like the huge setting anyway!)
Great for multimedia use and word processing(I recommend the extra $50 bucks for MS Office.) I watch movies on it and listen to loads of music. It performs well with the upgraded 512MB of RAM and the 80GB HDD. I have the 2.39Ghz Intel Celeron processor. It is a very good budget PC and Christmas gift.
It isn't very bulky and MUCH easier to upgrade than the Dimension 2400. I have it in my room(a small storage room in my basement.) It has a 5 yr warranty AND the service isn't from a 3rd world country. Intel will do that to you but DELL hasn't done it to me... YET!
Overall, it is a very good PC for first-time buyers. And no, I am not a first time buyer. I have a 3.6Ghz Cybertron 360T with 1GB of RAM and dual 200GB HDD's. It is my work PC and I don't play games on it. I am studying animation in the local tech college.
Well, anyhoo, just buy this PC it's an excellent deal for the price($700-$1100, depending on the package)

Stable, great service

Pros: Works, good price, good service

Cons: Dell is sneaky with shipping prices

Review: As a consultant I get to see a lot of big enterprise offices and meet the people who keep them running, and the Dell users always seam to have way less hassles. In my own offices we have had some very memorable lemons with bad support from E-Machines, HP, Compaq IBM and some generic clones. So we jumped on the Dell bandwagon.

Our first two P4 Dell 3000s cost almost twice as much for the units and the delivery as the two we bought a month latter, so keep an eye on the Dell web site, specials come and go, and always watch these guys on shipping it ranges from free to $150 depending on the promotion running. Dell would not price match my machines even though the next special was less than 30 day from when I bought the first units. Something Best Buy would do for you if you bought locally.

The first two units came with defective shrouds of the CPU fans, very noisy. Dell phone support was annoying in that they made me do a bunch of steps (twice, one for each machine) when the defect was obviously a cheep plastic fitting. However after that, they sent on site repair out to fix it at no charge, very impressive!

No problems since. Units are good value and very stable even now six months later. I am a happy Dell customer and would not look again at E-machines, and the others.

Hard Drive Failure in less than 100 days

Pros: Good Looking Machine..

Cons: Bad Hard Drive

Review: Hard Drive Failure just after 90 days warranty period. Dell Support team confirmed that, now I have to pay for replacement. So think of a PC where Hard drive is not at all reliable. Better do not buy this product.

Amazing machine for the MONEY!!!!

Pros: The price was amazing: $525 I got a 17in. Ultrasharp LCD, 160 GB Hard drive, 512 mb ram, Wireless Mouse and Keyboard, Wireless Remote control, and a Pentium 4 3Ghz with HT, Along with a DVD+/- Burner

Cons: Keyboard and Mouse feel a little cheap, but seem to be quite effective. I maybe should have gotten 1 GB of memory, but I don't know if it really would have been worth it.

Review: So far this is absolutely wonderful. I love it, the speed seems fast enough for what I do. I don't do anything graphic intensive. I played StarCraft tonight, worked seemlessly. I was able to upgrade by puting in a wireless card in one of the PCI slots. Easy as could be, install of hardware and software was simple, 15 minutes max. Connected to my wireless network along with my printer through another computer, absolutely simple. Havent had the opportunity to burn a CD yet, multi-tasking seems to work fairly fast, but slow at times. I don't know if you can put in a new video card or not, because even though there is a integrated video card; because there are PCI slots to put in new cards. If anyone knows or has any questions please feel free to email me at jordanwells.57@gmail.com. For the price, I don't think you could get a system with so many features. This pumps out the most bang for the buck. (I got it on sale)

Could have done better than this

Pros: The price was right.

Cons: Celeron processor, not nearly enough storage, locks up too much.

Review: I have had more problems with my Dell Dimension 3000 in the 9 months since I bought it than in the whole six years I had my Idot. The first computer they sent me had to be returned within a few days of unpacking it, kept getting the blue screen of death. The second one just never did work right, always locking up, slow as could be, and after repeated calls to tech support (in which they had me on the floor taking the tower apart, removing memory cards and reinserting them) running tests, etc etc etc, I finally got a tech support person sympathetic enough to send a computer tech to fix the computer. They installed a new hard drive and memory card, which was great because it's no longer giving me the blue screen of death, which by the way was supposed to have been eliminated with Windows XP, but I still find it slow, still get a fair amount of error messages, and will never, ever buy another product from Dell, nor will I be recommending them.

Dell Dimension 3000

Pros: preformance

Cons: graphics card

Review: I love the 3000. The only bogus thing is the graphics card, but other than that, it rocks.

Excellent with upgrades

Pros: Affordable, good warranty, customizable, performs well if upgraded.

Cons: not super upgradable after purchase, not exactly the ferrari of computers.

Review: After reading some very poor reviews before buying this computer, I had my doubts on if the Dell Dimension 3000 would be a good computer to buy for me. The main complaints of other reviewers are that it simply fails to perform well with today's technological standards; others experienced lagging, freezing, and crashing. Then again, most of them got the base model.

I had good experiences with Dell products in the past so I decided to remain loyal to a company that has treated me well. My computing needs are not very demanding, all I really use this computer for is surfing the web, work programs, digital photo editing, music, and word processing. I decided to upgrade the base model to a 'Pentium 4' 3.0Ghz processer w/ HT technology. I also upgraded RAM to 512mb and the hard drive to 80gb, simply because I do not want to buy another computer for awhile. I also got a free 19 inch flat panel screen.

My first impression is one of disbelief, this thing is FAST! To give you an idea, my previous computer was a .5ghz AMD computer running on windowsME, 128mb RAM, and pushing 5 to 6 years of age. The 3000 loads and runs AOL9 in no time at all, and even running more demanding programs like Windows Media Player 10 is lightning fast. My program for work (Unimatic/Apallo) took 3 minutes to load on the old computer, now it takes less than 10 seconds.

Dell's bundled software works fine and is a good supplement to the computer. I spent an extra 50 bucks to get MS office as a word processor because wordperfect is TERRIBLE and buggy. To my surprise, MS encarta 2005 came included for free and has been an excellent resource for my son's schoolwork.

The included monitor is as beautiful as it is large. This 19 inch beast is surprisingly clear for an analog flat panel monitor. The included keyboard and mouse work just fine. I wish I would have upgraded to the wireless keyboard and mouse, because the wires of the standard keyboard and mouse seem rather thick and noticable.

The 3000 also came with a printer, mine was a Dell 720 color printer. It works, pretty basic stuff. For 30 bucks more you can get a printer with a scanner, a good deal in my opinion.

As reviewers have said before, the graphics card cannot be upgraded. This is fine for me because I do not wish to upgrade it, I don't need the extra performance and I don't need it. If you want excellent 'videophile' graphics performance, DONT BUY A BASE MODEL LIKE THE 3000! It's that simple. I bought this model to do non-demanding, basic tasks, and the 3000 has performed extremely well in that respect.

All in all, the Dell Dimension 3000 suits my needs well. It is well upgradable by my standards, but would not satisfy those seeking a 'ferrari' computer. The product does exactly what it is made for: execution of relatively simple programs, at a cheap price. I urge people looking for a high performance computer to look at a "performance" models such as the XPS or the 4700, otherwise the 3000 is perfect. No lags, no freezes, no crashes. I would strongly reccomend the warranty, because you never know when a faulty part could set you back 1000 bucks on a new computer.

First experience with Dell dissapointing.

Pros: Great publicity

Cons: Faulty equipment and short-term warrantee not openly disclosed.

Review: It is cool owning a Dell until it stops working. It then becomes so Not Cool!especially if you find out that your system only had a 90 day warantee - which is already expired. Then you speak to 5 or 6 people within the next two hours and they all give you default answers, passing the ball from one to the next until your ear hurts so bad that you have to hang up. Fortunately for me, I don't own a Dell, but my employer does and I won't be able to get their work done this week. A Dell Dimension 3000 bought last November, suddenly dies without apparent reason, after a day of normal work. The next day it just would not start, but thinking back to my first day of work 3 weeks ago, it seemed abnormally slow for the kind of system it was, it was definitely not a multitasker. I will need a little more wait to order a part plus a $180 visit to know if it is really the power supply what failed. Lesson learnt: know that Dell does not include a default one year warantee, and if you live in Hawaii, go local, or you will regret having to use their phone technical support. My first experience with Dells will sure be the last one.

meh, my old comp had only slightly fewer problems

Pros: small, cheap, looks funky

Cons: unreliable, kinda slow

Review: programs that ran fine on my old gateway pent III- like MSN messenger, just screw up on this thing!
if u try to have multiple user accounts- some of the programs crash, like spyware guard.

overall disspointing but adequate

Overall a great computer for a low price.

Pros: Performance is great with a 2.8 GHz, 80GB hard drive, and 512MB for ram. Great speakers/sub and slim 17'' monitor.

Cons: Only a PCI interface. Hard to find a good graphics card that will work with this computer. I got the ATI Radeon 9250 256MB for the graphics upgrade from Future Shop.

Review: For the price I recommend buying this computer. If you are looking for an AGP or PCI Express slot go for the Dell Dimension 4700 or higher.

fine computer for everday tasks

Pros: nice design, and some avaliable upgrade options.

Cons: no agp slot, feeble performance, very slow computer.

Review: i am not sure wether to recomend or not to recomend. if you are the kindof person that wants a pc soley for microsoft word, and other office applications then this computer will be just fine. if you are an entry level gamer that is looking for a cheap alternative to an alienware system, i would not recomend this to you. mainly for the reason that this pc has no agp slot for a graphics upgrade, so you are stuck with the integrated graphics from intel. also this computer should be boughten with a good service plan because dell is known for its bad reputation with cheap parts, bad service, etc, etc, etc.
BOTTOM LINE= good entry level pc with some perks, but i still cant believe there is no agp slot! sorry, to all of you gamers out there.PS- dells tech support is in India and they can barely speak english, let alone help with technological problems you may have.

Pros: Inexpensive

Cons: I just returned the whole system. Dell made order mistakes on every transaction. The support in Panama City, and India is beyond frustrating. They have no trouble-shooting ability, and not even basic support understanding. Very difficult to understand

Spending more time on support line, than on line.

Pros: Loaded with XP Pro, Intel P4 3 gigahertz, 512 RAM it does basic Mircorsoft Office programs and not much more.

Cons: There is a reason for "Dell Hell" to continue to be used. Spent hours and 2 restores with Dell support trying to get Dell's McAfee to work, don't bother to spend the extra bucks - Dell refers you to McAffe. McAfee phone support is $3/min, and online line

Cheap, basic, but works pretty well

Pros: Built well, nice tower design. Really cheap. If you get the option with 2 CD drives (one cd-rw/dvd and one regular cd) it's a nice setup. Flat panel screen is nice too if you opt for it. Good cooling system (but it's noisy). Runs decently fast for ju

Cons: Gfx card really isn't for gaming. Fan is kinda noisy. Dell includes almost NO documentation for the system, and tech support is somewhere in India (good luck getting them to understand you). Finally, slipstreaming SP2 in with the factory setup was prob

Good product for thr money

Pros: Wide selection of options. Delivered as promised. Set upas easy as I am a novice. Upgraded to a 2.8 P4 and a few other things. Total cost still within my original budget.

Cons: The speakers they sell (the base models) are terible. Sound like a cheap transister radio from the 60"s. Also ordered the optical mouse thinking it was wireless but it plugs in like a standard mouse. Not what I wanted or needed,

Can't beat Dell Quality

Pros: This is a great basic PC. You can configure it with all the options you want. Pentium 4 and at least 512 MB Ram is a must. HP can't touch Dell's reliability.

Cons: If you need a stronger graphics card, you can always use a PCI card.
