"Don't be fooled! Great PC, exceptional if you new the price I paid." on by Happy PC Shopper

Pros: All the bells and whistle except for a card reader, but already had one

Cons: I will update the a non intergrated sound card.

Summary: People don't be fooled. This is a better than average computer. This is a great computer package for exceptional price. Plenty of USB slots and you can add-on a Firewire card and if you remove the 56K modem card that you won't need if are using DSL, you can even put in your own audio and video card. My package is P4 HT 3.0, 160 GB, 512MB, DVD burner and DVD rom drives, 17" TFT monitor 128MB video card all for $879. Still cannot beat this price. Had computer since Oct 04' and love. Even though tech support is in India they have been great, freindly and even make call backs to ensure your problem, if any, have been fixed to your satisfaction. Computer was delivered on time and took no time to set up. I have no coplaints.

"All things considered, this is a pretty nimble machine for the price." on by TechFan

Pros: Nice flat screen; plenty of drive space; and a 2.8GHz processor, all for well under a grand.

Cons: Three piece speaker set could be better; I'll need to upgrade my graphics card to play newer games.

Summary: Sure it doesn't have all the latest and greatest components, but as a second machine for my house, the Dimension 4700 was a great deal. It's performance and stability is totally solid.

I wish I would have upgraded my sound card and speakers when I bought it - this machine is in my living room, and music could definitely sound better.

I love the 17" flat screen though - it's my first LCD and I can't imagine ever going back to a regular CRT.

When it comes time to upgrade my main work machine, I'll probably go with something like the Dimension 8400, but for a bargain machine I definitely feel like I made the right choice.

"Plain Jane Go to Work - All Day" on by sailer182

Pros: PCIe rocks with high proformance graphics:

Cons: No inovation (case desighn) - HP want to be.

Summary: The PCIe rocks on graphics. I just stuck any PCIe card in the slot and it took off.
Much better than AGP for graphics intensive applications (online gaming).

Nothing works out of the box for me but Dell.

"Good computer at a good price" on by jmariepuma

Pros: Haven't had any problems so far; lots of USB ports; very easy setup

Cons: Version of MS Office shipped with computer had to be updated and took 2 hours with my dialup connection

Summary: I bought the 4700 3 months ago and have found it to be a very good computer. The setup was very easy. I can't comment on Dell's customer service because I haven't had a reason to call them. I've also downloaded a lot of software and connected my digital camera and a label writer without any problems. No problems with the free printer, and Dell's prices on ink seem in line with other manufacturers. Got 15 months of Norton Internet Security included.

"I would have DEFINITELY preferred the lack of Spyware preinstalled..." on

Pros: This isn't a bad little computer. I bought it for my mom. Specs: 3.0GHz HT processor 160GB IDE drive 512MB RAM (free upgrade to 512) 128MB video card (highly recommend the extra video card. If you don't get one, the video will share your base memory

Cons: I bought this computer so I didn't have to build one. It came with McAfee (trial) when I specifically requested that they did not install it). Came with a LOT of software I didn't want, but didn't have the option not to buy. CAME WITH PREINSTALLED SPYW
