"OBSOLETE OR NOT........."
Pros: Quick - Excellent Display
Cons: Too many free trials installed
Summary: Obsolete or not, this little system works much better than I expected. I ordered the 15-inch flat panel w/ 512 MB and 160 GB hard drive from the Savings Spotlight. Total everything: $458.00. I had my doubts about 512 MB and have not used a Celeron before; so I was skeptical about that too.
I gave this too my neice and set it up for her today. I told her "no time limits today, have fun."
She has been on it for five hours, testing it all out. No freeze-ups, no slow downs, no errors. The display is extremely vivid and the details are far more crisp than I had expected.
DELL overloads the system with promo extras, but I'll weed those out after she is asleep tonight.
If you have a teen-age daughter (or neice) that needs a new system, this one will be ideal.Updated
After my niece loaded all of her things down, there was still above-average performance. The little RAM gauge that I had installed was indicating 140-180 MB available RAM. This was totally unsatisfactory for me. Of course, dumping McAfee's entourage did add 33 MB.
I ordered a performance 1 gig set from Crucial Technologies. Next week, I'll update on that.
I definitely suggest ordering a Gig from get - go.
Other than that, the system is problem-free, and she is having a lot of fun.
