"HORRIBLE Case Design, Wrong Software Sent with System" on by jhaines

Pros: Excellent Performance (Once Properly Configured).

Cons: HORRIBLE Case, very unstable, does not stay together (we are on the third case in 2 months).Horrible, we had problems re-configuring system after disk failure. The case weighs A TON. Very Dissapointed

Summary: I am the CEO of a Software Consulting Solutions firm in NJ. We are a Microsoft Gold Partner (and a Dell Partner). I have purchased over 100 Dell Servers, Desktops and Laptops.
I have never had problems that we have experienced with this box. My customer (who I bought this for as a favor) has had nothing but nightmares. First problem was that the Case literally fell apart. Dell's outsourced partner came and replaced it in short order. The new case did the exact same thing. Then the disk drives failed, then the motherboard, and the list goes on. After spending about 5 hours of my own time, I finally took the system back to our in house engineers. They completely reset the RAID, then loaded the OS, then the Dell Desktop Mgr, then the Intel Chipset (if you don't do it in that EXACT order, the system will not configure properly). It turned out that dell didn't even send us the correct drivers for the video card which was not the one that we ordered.

I am a huge supporter of DELL and a Stockholder. I think their machines, support and service is far and above any of the competition. HOWEVER, THE XPS 4 GEN SYSTEM is an abosolute MESS. Just the fact of the ULTRA CHEAP Case is completely unforgivable. And if you are not a HARDWARE EXPERT (which I am), don't even get close to this box.
I highly suggest the 8400 fully loaded. MUCH BETTER !

Dell, I HOPE YOU READ THIS. Get your act together on this box. You really missed QA on this one !

"No more Dell's for me" on by bluesrock1

Pros: I wish I had one

Cons: Noisy and bad tech support

Summary: Two time Dell customer, first and last! This thing is loud, had to put paper shims under it to quite it down some from vibrations in the case and it has a hot smell when running and it's been 2 months since I purchased it. Wrote tech support and they did answer fast but they sent links to issues not mention in my e-mail so I still have concerns. I usually don't do user opinions but this may help others decide.

    "Great Computer!" on by o12191

Pros: Color changing case lights, fast, and reliable

Cons: Expensive, no longer comes with printed manual

Summary: This computer is great for playing games but also for the basics such as checking e-mails and typing documents. It is much better than 1st generation XPS in terms of speed. The case lights also add to the "wow" factor. It is kinda expensive though, so try to google "dell cupons" before you buy, you'd be surpried at how much you can save!

"Great PC - Powerful - Great Tech Support -" on by jparchitectus

Pros: Very Powerful for 3d rendering and Gaming - TECH SUPPORT IN US!

Cons: The case could be designed better. We have 4 and all 4 cd/dvd/disk drive covers broke in less then a week.

Summary: I would recommend the dell xps gen 4. Seperate Tech help in the United States. Not the long waits for the aweful service with the normal Dell PCS.

Very powerful with many potential extra hookups. Great for gaming, 3d rendering, audio producing

"Dell does it again." on by a_pickle

    Pros: Good product, good qualtiy

Cons: Paying for the XPS name.

Summary: I love Dells. I've had the esteemed pleasure of operating two machines in my lifetime, and were I not building my next computer, it too, would be a Dell. Call me a consumer slave, call me Dell's puppet, I believe I am only one of the millions of people who have found Dell to be one of the most helpful and reliable desktop distributors.

I only have one qualm with Dell's practices, and that is their ordering system, which does not allow you to refuse certain software packages. When I get a new computer I don't want one clogged with software that there was no "none" option for.

Of course, the above is solved with a little computer know-how and a simple reformat, but it shouldn't have to come to that.

And, the XPS is a little to expensive for my taste, and this is generally because of the name it bears rather than the innards of the beast.

Overall, though, this machine'll run fast for YEARS. Maybe the XPS isn't right for you, but there's a Dimension out there with your name on it. Buy it. NOW.
