Pros: I don't know that there are any so far; my eight and a half year old Dell Dimension 2400 still works and I never had a problem with any defective parts.

Cons: Motherboard had to be replaced immediately; power button and bezel were replaced but didn't solve problem with getting tower to turn on. Customer service is terrible;they couldn't get my phone number right and refused to give receipt for repairs.

Summary: After enduring three episodes of problems with this model, I would not recommend it to anyone. I plan to ask for a new tower, as three parts have been replaced and there continues to be a problem with turning the tower on. I spent ~$800- on this, including Microsoft Office, which I needed, but am regretting the purchase. I have now spoken with customer service at Dell more than six times; it takes twenty minutes until one is connected with a rep., and although my experience has been that they speak English without a problem, some of them are so incompetent that they can't understand simple requests(i.e., "please change my phone number to xxx-xxx-xxxx, so that the dispatched technician can reach me before he comes out, as he is required to do." I also argued with a supposed supervisor who refused to give me a receipt, order, invoice, anything printed that would prove I had had parts replaced by Dell. This went on for about 45 minutes. The next day, a "Resolution Team" member called me and readily agreed to email me a receipt for the replacement of parts. As I am sure Dell will not refund what I paid for this computer, I will request that the tower be replaced. The latest problem with the computer not turning on when the power button is pushed MAY be due to something simple, such as a defective power cord; if this is the case, I will not try to get a replacement. I still wouldn't recommend getting a Dell computer now, as customer service was more incompetent than competent.

My answer to lousy customer service, use your credit card to help the DELL do the right thing, then write Dell's CEO. If you have owned your computer less than 60 days and paid with a credit card call Visa, MasterCard, American Express (the very best to deal with for this sort of issue, I've found) whichever and tell them what happened.

It worked for me when I purchased a laptop from HP that failed 30 days after purchase. HP stated they would replace my month-old laptop with a refurbished because my model had been discontinued. Yeah right. When my credit card company reversed the charges HP saw the light and sent me a new laptop. Had that not worked, I also had the warranty offered by my credit card company to get my money back.
