Pros If it doesn't work right, it's hard to write pros
Cons System locks up on a regular basis.
Summary Nothing more than the shipped software is installed on this system. Don't be fooled by the Mac look in design of the system... It's an under-performing low-end Dell to be sure. This computer is an absolute piece of junk.
Pros The large screen is awesome. Nice sleek/clean design. I would love everything about this computer IF it worked.
Cons Same as other reviewers. Stops responding, random shut downs and black screens, doesn't detect HD most of the time; "reboot and select", hangs for minutes at a time, etc.
Summary Computer was purchased in late 2010. 5/11 -HD replaced, 11/11 -HD replaced, 3/12 -HD AND motherboard replaced, 5/12- HD AND motherboard AND sata cable replaced. Still the same issues! Dell has refused to send me a replacement even though it is still under warranty. I also have spent hours on the phone with support. Each time they ask me to run the same tests over and over and convert to factory default, only to end up sending a technician out once again. And each time they try to push a $282 extended warranty or one of their anti-virus programs. The last time, I refused to spend another minute on the phone running tests and asked for a replacement. Instead, they tell me they are sending boxes in two days for me to ship the comp to them so they can diagnose the problem. I waited over a week for boxes that never came. Finally, a technician calls me to say he is coming to...GUESS WHAT...replace the HD!!! He also knew nothing about any boxes. I give up.
Pros Spent a year comparison shopping touchscreens - HP, Gateway, Dell, etc. Dell had the most to offer - hard drive, memory, large screen,3 yr McAfee, and more plus an all around better price.
Cons First Inspiron One 2305 lasted 2 weeks. A new replacement was received today. I took it out of the box, plugged it in and saw the set up screen for about 45 seconds. It went black.
Summary IT folks were as baffled as I was and now I feel like my trial with this system is over. I fear I am headed back to desktop PC. Be aware of the touch screen dilemmas that WILL occur - Once the touch screen is out, everything is out!
Pros Giant display, color is lovely, touch capability is enjoyable to use.
Cons I have spent many hours with tech support in the first two days of ownership of my Inspiron 2305. The black screen...no warning... loss of work because a hard reboot is the only option....unpleasant.
Summary If I don't get satisfaction soon, I will be insisting on a replacement of this system for something reliable. I am a nursing student and a busy mom, and I can't have my time wasted with lost work. I don't have that kind of time.
Pros great when it works, 20 minutes at a time.
Cons Doesn't work for more than twenty minutes.
Summary I am a computer programmer - and my wife works in the same industry - we know computers.
Out of the box the sound didn't work, Dell was no help so we found the answer online The touch screen loses location sensitivity (not pressure) after a while, but somehow fruit flies can open programs.
The worse is the display. It goes down about every twenty minutes, 1 out of three recovers after 30 seconds of black screen, 2 out of three it freezes and then you must reboot. After all the updates from DELL and Radeon the problem still exists. Helpdesk is a joke, they ask you to "reboot the computer" like it's still 2002 and you know nothing.
So finally we wipe the system (with Dell helpdesk help) and this time the computer goes forty minutes before crashing. DO NOT BUY THIS LEMON - I have bought several laptops and computers from DELL that were great, and I mean GREAT...but this is not one of them. They should give every single purchaser of this sick joke a credit for a new computer. Or do we need a class action?
