Workhorse w/Onshore Support
Pros: Onshore support; excellent Web support site; low cost
Cons: Very limited upgradability
Review: It seems to be a little known fact that not all Dell PCs are "the same." Dimensions and OptiPlex-i differ in the location of their tech support (OptiPlex is on-shore), dumpware (Dimensions have the full commercial load of garbage apps, although not as bad as the HP home models) and system CDs (OptiPlex-i provide a real OS CD.) The price on an apples-to-apples basis is very similar, but the OptiPlex is much more maintainable.
It is disappointing to open the 170L case and see an otherwise capable Intel motherboard missing expansion slots. It's hard to imagine what the costs savings are to NOT supply an AGP video slot, or the normal four memory slots (there are only two) since the chipset supports them, but ... integrated video and two DIMM slots is what you must settle for with a 170L.
I find these PCs to be very quiet and stable performers. The Dell support Web site is excellent, and it is easy to find your specific device in Dell's database to get all the pertinent info about the equipment as delivered.
Price is attractive, and fit and finish are excellent. I've delivered many of these to customers for office verticals and they've all been satisfied. The low-end Dimensions: not as satisfied.

Cheap price but cheap construction
Pros: -Great price -Optiplex line usually maintains a stable hardware configuration
Cons: - Cheap construction. A loud rattle when the hard drive spins up. - Seems a bit on the slow side. Just used a Dell Precision 470 for a week and was many, many times faster. Worth the extra money. - What happened to Optiplex cases? They used to be easy
