Cons Terrible Service!!! Over 30 PC's have already had MB replaced.
Summary I actually signed up just to make this post. I am currently running over 800 dell computers in an international network and most work fine. The 280 has a problem with their capacitors that they are trying to fix. I had 30 motherboards go bad in 2 months. Everytime I called Dell I had to hassle my way to get it fixed, talk to numerous technicians, supervisors ect. I even wrote a letter to Kevin Rollins (CEO) and pasted it into a Customer Satisfaction Survey to get some help (that works well). I sit on hold for 30 minutes at a time (note that I pay for Gold Support, an extra fee at purchase). I never receive return phone calls or follow ups. In one case, the tech marked the case as 'parts replaced, system working' and he never even stopped by the office to replace the parts. TERRIBLE TECH SUPPORT TEAM. These PC's are inexpensive, and operate, but if you have a problem, good luck fighting for help. The money spent in my wages fixing these things could have replaced half of the bad PC's.
ALSO*** The CRT monitors that come with these systems, namely the M783s are absolute GARBAGE. A third of them were bad right out of the box and had to be replaced with refurbished models (thanks dell- i didnt buy a brand new one or anything...). Another third of them went bad within a month. NEVER buy the CRT's that come with this PC.
Pros Easy to Setup. Only takes me a f ew minutes to roll out the machines and hook them up. Fast and powerful, and easy to use.
Cons Not really a flaw of the machine, but takes forever to get on the domain :(.
Cons This model is not fully backward compatible with OS's. A lot of industry use the Optiplex running NT4 around the world but this model will NOT allow NT to install. DELL openly admit this.
Pros alot of room for upgrade nice look to it its SATA and its verry fast on the 1gig i got it with
Cons loud cpu fan and it over heats some time
Summary its a verry good for a 14 yr old that want to mess around with a computer i have it running with a 50gig ssd and a 500gig back up drive windows xp pro/vista home/7 home it runs like a dream! no problems be sides the cpu fan
Pros Runs decently, very little heat issue. no dvd-burner, installed one myself. 512 mbs upgradable to 4 gigs. Had the system for four and a half years. It's good if you want a basic computer. Easy to open. I'm fairly pleased with this system.
Cons I lucked out on a good pc. A good portion of the ones we used at work barely made it past two to three years. Thats why I only gave it a three. Like another reviewer had stated, quite a few of the mother boards don't make it past two to four years.
Summary Good basic computer if you don't end up with a bad mother board that crashes after a certain amount of time. My next computer I will be building on my own. This computer is getting to the point where it could go on me anytime now.
