"Best gaming computer I've ever had"
Pros: Lightning fast, quiet, user friendly
Cons: fairly expensive
Summary: I've never written an online review before, but I am in awe of this computer. I'm a gamer, pure and simple. I usually upgrade every three years to keep up with the latest technology and games. I then give my old computer away to my neices and nephews. I looked pretty hard at different high end gaming rigs before I settled on the XPS 600 ( I actually purchased an XPS 400 but returned it due to a faulty Nvida 6800 video card - tech support was very good and the only bad part about the whole experience was paying the $60 in shipping cost). But I digress. The XPS 600 I purchased has a 3.6 HT CPU, 2 Gig RAM, and a 7800 GTX video card. The monitor is a 2001FP LCD. After an easy setup and making sure I had all the correct connections, I booted it up, installed Battlefield 2, downloaded the latest mod, and started the game. I was blown away. I'm running everything on the highest possible graphic settings, and for those not familiar with Battlefield 2, let me assure you that it is one of the most demanding games out there when it comes to computing power. I've never had so much as a hiccup after many hours of playing, and the highest temperature reached by the graphics card was 45c. The fans do a great job of keeping the computer cool, and as far as the fan noise I've been reading complaints about, this computer is no louder nor quieter than any other computer I've had. I just don't understand some of the complaints about noise unless the people complaining received defective fans or their installation was faulty.
The monitor is awesome. I upgraded from an 17" NEC LCD and found the Dell to be a tad bit better in clarity and ease of use (it has a one touch button to auto adjust the dispaly - something I have grown to love). There is no ghosting or blurring. This monitor was built for gaming.
My only complaint is the price of this system. I know I could have built it for much less, but I've always had good luck with DELLs tech support and I was willing to pay the extra price for that support.
I know there are DELL bashers out there who have had bad experiences with DELL, and I'm not discounting that, but I have to wonder exactly how these people went about dealing with their problems. When I got my XPS 400 and the screen began to develop graphic problems while playing BF2, I talked to tech support and was polite about it. After sending a screenshot of the problem, they issued me a case number and from that point on talked to a guy from India who called himself "Mike". Super nice guy and did everything he could to help me out, but at the end of the day he recommended that I send it back.
Bottom line is that I love this computer and am very very happy with my purchase.
