"Owner of this pc for 5 years - still running great!" on by multi007
Pros: Great PC. P4 processor not bad at all. You can upgrade it if you want. Comes with "Quick Restore" cd - a must for all PC users. Ive had to use the "restore" disk 4 times in 5 years because I downloaded one of those fake virus "you have a viruse" crap
Cons: Graphics processor is slow - dont expect to play Crysis / Far Cry etc... But works great on 2d games. Also, It wont play youtube 720p or 1080p vids (very choppy like a slide show). You can upgrade the graphics card if you want.
Summary: Emachines are good. No issues. Been using Emachines for 10 years.

"It's STILL running" on by John9872
Pros: Still has all orginal parts, looks clean, cd drive.
Cons: Out dated with only a VGA video port, crashed 2 time but only needed a new install of windows, still runnning on stock orginal parts nothing has changed
Summary: I got this computer thinking it was going to be a great computer which ut was for what I used it for at the time but as I got into Video editing and lots of games and applications the computer started getting slower and slower even when I had little applications the hard drive makes lots of noise and wakes me up sometimes! But other then that it's a great little computer for a user who just browses the IE and uses little applications. The computer is still running on original factory stock parts and only needed 2 installs of windows.

"Someone was tossing it for the landfill" on by mikelj3
Pros: It was gutted when I found it although the CPU, Power Supply & MB were intact. Once I determined it was capable of running I did the cosmetic clean up. I installed 1.5gb PC 400 RAM, a 500gb WD Serial ATA HD, Windows XP-Pro, a Plextor DVD-RW, & a
Cons: If I am correct, the FSB is limited to 533 but I hear tell some of these had MB's capable of 800FSB and core duo capability. I have a socket SLA775 @ 1.8gHz core duo I might try in it. I am not thrilled with the CPU fan at turn on, which quiets down aft
Summary: An excellent computer. If it had left the factory w 1gb of RAM or more, I am sure the reviews would have been better.

"Replacing CPU fan" on by bdaleday
Pros: Fan was a 'Direct' Replacement
Cons: No Installation Instructions
Summary: My T5048 was working fine for 3 years (but gradually slowing down, as they ALL do), then the CPU fan died. Simple fix, right? HAH!! Emachines referred me to PCfactoryOutlet.com, where I bought a replacement for $32. It came with NO instructions! When I called, the supplier referred me to Emachines Tech Support for help, which they offered, for $59.95 FOR 30 MINUTES!! (It's out of warranty.) I had no intention of spending that much, so I called PCfactoryOutlet back, and got a CLUELESS rep who had no idea how to install the fan.
My old fan had 4 screws attaching it to the motherboard. The new one has 4 push-clips. To make a long story short, if you have this situation, you need to UNSCREW THE MOTHER-BOARD, remove (from the back) the frame with 4 threaded posts that held the old fan, then mount the new fan by pressing its 4 push-clips into the same holes in the motherboard. To make it even more fun, the push-clips don't snap into place until the pushrod is rotated to the correct position. That takes a little futzing around that's hard to describe here.
After spending $32, 4 useless phone calls, and more than 3 hours, I FINALLY figured it out myself and got it working!
Conclusion: Next time I'll buy a new computer!! It wasn't worth the aggravation!!! -
"Great Machine For Price" on by Jacobin777
Pros: Inexpensive & Fast
Cons: None So Far But Needs More Standard Memory
Summary: I purchased this computer from Tiger Direct 4-5 months ago for less than $300 including taxes. I added a 1-Gig DDR RAM chip and a NVidia GeForce 7300 SE video card....which brought the total cost to around $365...while I don't play video games, the computer screams. It handles all of my applications extremely quickly (and I tend to run multiple applications simultaneously). Watching video, etc. is very smooth.
My only "gripe" with the computer is it came with 512 RAM standard of which a lot of it was taken/shared by the built in video card. This tended to "bog" things down a bit. I think if the machine even came with a cheap video card, it would have performed better "out of the box"....however, with RAM and video memory so cheap and easy to install (for most people), I don't think its too much of a problem. The whole process of opening the computer and installing both modules took less than 5 minutes (and I'm no "techie" either).....I turned on the machine and it read the memory right away. The video drivers were installed via the CD which came with the card. No problems since.
All-in-all, I would highly recommend it if one can get a good price on it.
