"Are you looking for an inexpensive Gaming Machine !!"
Pros: Top Notch gamer if you do some internals !
Cons: Sound mutes at times when not used
Summary: Ok after weeks of looking at reviews on c.net and comparing to other gaming machines with a much steeper price structure , i knew i could do better if i put my mind to it . And wow do i do a good job picking this one . With the 64 bit PCI Express system , and a 3800 + ( upgradable to 4000 ) processor ...this system sings a nice and quiet tune after a little adjustment . But for starters i had a plan after reading ( stylepts (see profile) - June 17, 2005 ) review . I primarily followed his lead . went to Best Buy , bought a new system for around 600.00 bucks and then bought a ATI X800XL Graphics card that complies with the PCI Express system structure ( $ 300.00 ) , and then got 1 gig of dual channel memory for around 90 bucks from a local retailer . The key as in his review is figuring out the periferials and then making the right adjustments . Start up the machine , then do your windows updates , then uninstall norton security , and possibly macafee antivirus , as well as other tasking startup programs that will effect your registy periferials on a clean bootup or possibly any other multitasking programs you will not need later on , then efrag the hardrive (I cant underemphasize this ) . Then i got a copy of Registry Mechanic and ran it seveal times on reboots to clean the registry of any unwanted strings of data that will slow you performance . What you will end up with is a very fast machine with a cost of approx $ 1030.00 with a 1.45 bg harddrive that will run any graphics game in a top notch way . I have tested MOH Pacific Assault at ( 1920 X 1080 ) with no problems at all .The system is quiet but at times when it really chuggin graphics youll hear the graphics card fan kick in quietly ( but not much ).The ATI 800 XL performs nicely with no other connections needed besides the pci express slot . And i only loaded the drivers with the Windows update , as i havent needed to add the ATI Catylist or media center ( extra software for overclocking ) to get great performance . Over all at 2 weeks uner my belt i am very impressed with this machine . It has a lot of potential if you add just the right componenets to get a great gaming experience.
