"Best desktop PC purchase I ever made."
Pros: Upgradeability, price, specs, software package. 64-bit ready. Great motherboard. Small form-factor.
Cons: Packaged speakers suck. Ball mouse, not optical.
Summary: The upgradeability of this desktop is the key feature here. The article didn't mention that the motherboard that the T6212 comes with uses the same socket as the new dual-core 64-bit 3800 chip just released by AMD. That cpu is the only true same-die dual-core chip on the market and has blown away all the competition upon its release last month. That means that its just a matter of swapping the chips out in a future upgrade to harness dual-core power! How sweet is that? Talk about future proof! Also the article failed to mention that this PC can upgrade the DDR to 4 gigs of dual-channel memory. First thing I did was buy a Radeon X700 PCi-Express card for $100 which frees up the 128 mb of ram the integrated graphics uses. Then I bought another 2 x 256 sticks of DDR to up my ram to 1GB of dual channel ($50). Lastly, I bought a Samsung SyncMaster 710N 17" flat panel LCD for $220. So what I ended up with was one bad ass computer that cost a grand total of only $950, SHIPPED. This computer has plenty of upgradeability remaining for 4GB ram, pci-Express graphics, and a dual-core Athlon64 once it comes down in price. Also, I have to say that I was simply amazed at Emachines customer service. You'd think that a company like this targetting the low end of the market would skimp on cust service. So when I called cust support about system recovery issues after formatting the second partition where they store the files, I was stunned when a real person answered my call after -- get this -- 15 seconds during prime time! She was very polite, and spoke perfect english -- not outsourced! Then I got a call a week later from another lady asking me if the service met my satisfaction. I tell you I'm not used to being treated this good anymore by PC manufacturers! Compare that to Dell which has crappy cust service. Even Sony, which I own two of their newest laptops and love their products, they also have crappy cust service. But eMachines is awesome. To top it off, this computer came with a dual-layer DVD burner which costs extra as an upgrade in most similar computers out there. Really you can't beat this deal nor this company...I'm so happy with my purchase I wish the company best of success in rising to the top of the market, they deserve it.
