"GREAT machine . Great UPGRADES value."

by silficho on June 16, 2005

Pros: great upgradability, dual channel ram, pci xpress slot

Cons: not good for people who are looking for a pc and not willing to upgrade.

Summary: this machine is geared toward the budget gammer who understands what upgrading is.
you will not find a pci xpress slot at this price point anywhere.

If yo buy this machine for gaming, you'll need to understand you have to spend a minimum of:
$200 for video card (6600 gt from nvidia at minimum)
$85 (2 sticks of 256 ram )for DUAL CHANNEL MEMORY meaning you need to buy 2 identical ddr ram sticks, ONE will not work. The advantge is this type of set up is faster than regular one channel ram.

    285+ 625 is 910...
at that price you WILL NOT find a better machine for gamming. It will run doom3, wow, half life, awesomely.

So understand for $910 after the upgrades you got an awesome machine...
if you just want a regular $1000 machine with silly intergrated video ram, thats your call. Those machines are great for non gammers. But worthless to us gammers. This machine after upgrades, at $910 total cost, outperforms many $3000+ machines.

GREAT SYSTEM after using for past 3 months. The T6212 is my 2nd eMachine, (First one was a T2200SE purchased ~2.5 years ago), and I am as pleased this time as before. Also purchased a Samsung SyncMaster 712N monitor in lieu of the eMachine CRT. (CompUSA gave a credit for the eMachine 17" CRT)
Upgrades - added 2ea 256K 3200 DIMMS from Crutial and now have 1GB total RAM. Also, purchased an ATI X600 256K PCIe video card. eMachines 'online' tech support was helpful in assisting me to deconfigure the on-board ATI X200 video graphics chip. (although after adding the additional system RAM the X200 performed much better) Total cost for both upgrades <$200. The X600 card now brings me to an even higher level, and I can view graphic details which were previously blured or even hidden using the older T2200SE and the 'stock' 512K version of the T6212. (BTW, my older T2200SE is now computer #2 on my Belkin 602.11g wireless home network using Earthlink broadband.) My next step will be to upgrade BIOS and other drivers. (ATI graphic driver set has already been updated and is current)
Bottom line, BUY ONE, you won't be sorry!!

I completely agree with you in the cost value of this machine. The fact that you can purchase a $250 graphics card (incedentally I purchased the 6600 GT as well) and still have $500 or so saved from buying an equivellant Dell, Sony, or HP is amazing. Not to mention that the eMachines would probably not only be cheaper, but also BETTER.

wont you need to buy a new power supply. you need more power to power that brand new graphics card. i agree with the great price though.
