"Amazing system!"on by MikeyInTheD
Pros Great price, quick even after 3 years of use
Cons Freezing issues when it was new
Summary I bought this computer on a closeout from Best Buy in December 2009. I didn't have to upgrade the memory or graphics card ever - which is something I almost always do with computers eventually. Running smooth and quick. A moderate-level user wouldn't even know this computer is 3 years old when using it. I used this to stream movies and music, play games, and operate a small business. If you can find this system on ebay or Amazon for under $300 you're getting an amazing system that will still last a couple years without needing any upgrades. Much better than any sub-$600 system Best Buy sells today!!
Pros Looks nice, videos looks nice on screen. Has parental controls which are very specific. Can create different users accounts.
Cons Every program I get leads to FRUSTRATION! I have to call whatever software I am trying to install's tech support so they can tell me how to get in via the "back door" b/c nothing just installs easily into it. I have all these error things that come up whe
Summary I wish I never got this computer! My husband's Acer which he bought for $300 is better than this thing, and he only got it a month or so after I got this piece of junk. I took it to a guy who fixes computers and he said there is nothing wrong with it. He said it must be my internet, but that doesn't explain why my husband's laptop works so much getter. There is PLENTY of room left on the computer, so that isn't why it runs so slow! Not a good computer!Oh and also, a front USB port stopped working for no obviour reason!

Pros -AMD Quad Core
-Lots of RAM
-Easily Upgraded into a gaming PC
Cons -Poor Graphics Card
-300watt Powersupply(Though really that's standard.)
Summary I originally purchased this guy for $650 with the intent of turning it into my new gaming rig and having it around for a long time and it has yet to disappoint.
Simply tossing the video card the unit comes with and adding something a little more beefy (Say a PNY Geforce 9600) instantly allows the machine to run just about any PC game it wants with little worries about framerate issues of any kind, and Vista does an excellent job of utilizing the memory available.
My biggest complaints is the bloatware that the machine comes with, making even the 6GB machine slow down a great deal, and the internal cooling. The computer, even with the original video card, doesn't seem to cool as well as it should with the pair of fans that are in it. Still these are really minor complaints.
Overall this is great little PC to get and keep upgrading over afew years and can be pretty painlessly transformed into the type of computer that is needed, be that Gaming or otherwise.
Pros very quick for applications, many features of more expensive systems
Cons not a good gamer pc as is, need to upgrade to a better video card
Summary I would highly recommend this pc to anyone wanting to buy a new pc. I used to build computers and that was what I was going to do this time but I could not build one cheaper than the DX4200 with all the features givin. (Quad-core processor, 6GB ram). The only thing I would do if you wanted to game on the pc is to upgrade to a better video card.
Pros Fast and Full Featured at a good pricepoint
Cons Terrible quality - massive hardware problems and no support
Summary I was really excited about this machine - it seemed great. After weeks, the video card went out, then 2 of the memory chips went bad, then the LAN went out.
Gateway keeps promising to replace the components but supposedly their system is down and it has been call back tomorrow to get service for over a week.
I just ordered a new Dell as it will be here before I can get replacement parts. Perhaps they will honor the warranty but after 10 days of no support it is not likely.
