"PC for Dummies"
on by MasterBlaster714Pros It looks great, it performs great and if you try to screw it up, you can always get it back to factory settings or restore without destroying your programs. I really don't know what the reviewer is talking about skimping on external ports. I have 10 USB
Cons The only bad thing I can say is the factory software for encoding DVD's is slow. You can download a faster one online.
Summary I call it the PC for Dummies, because this thing is all the power anyone could need at this time and you can not permanently ruin it, believe me I always test every product I have ever purchased.

"It gets the job done. Great as a family PC"
on by Raw1980Pros plenty room for upgrades
Cons Power Supply and Graphic card
Summary I have this PC for about a year and I must say it does the job. Yes the power supply is not the best and the graphic card for that matter as well. I use the pc for everyday use and stream movies via xbox (media center) on a regular basis. I haven't had an issue with it yet, mind you that it has 1.5 TB and I'm currently using a third of this memory for movies. I think it is great for everyday use and the price is not bad. Also I purchased this from Best Buy on sale for 599.00 (650 after taxes)

"Waste of money? "Real" customer?"
on by NGENeerPros USB & memory-card ports up the kazoo! A snap to set-up. On-board graphics is better than I expected. Motherboard has slots to install better graphics/sound cards, etc. Case opens easily.
Cons Buttons to open the CD & DVD drives on the side, takes practice to find them. Bloatware installed but a couple were thngs I use anyway, deleted the rest. Must replace anemic power supply if you want to install high-end graphics & sound cards.
Summary *I'm* a "real customer." I've purchased 10 computers over the last 17 years as technologies changed. Three of them are/were fine high-end computers made by another company (name starts with a "D"). I managed to corrupt my latest high-end computer near the end of a project and realized it could take a long time to get it straightened out. Then I saw this thingie on sale. Figured "what can go wrong?" and bought it.
Well, nothing "went wrong." It installed without a hitch. It's fast & works smoothly w/ many apps running and multiple browser tabs open, all at the same time.
After finishing my project I tried playing a few simulation games (railroad & flight sims, not intensive shoot-em-ups). The integrated graphics & sound were a lot better than I expected . High-res scenery details and movement were rendered smoothly.
BTW, I mentioned that the side cover is easy to remove. On other sites I've seen people complain because they had to remove 2 screws to get the cover off - couldn't believe it! Two screws and the side cover pops off giving full access to the cleanly laid-out insides!! (Doesn't everybody own a Phillips screwdriver these days?) It's a much better arrangement than the "clam-shell" covers I've seen on other computers. -
"This is a horribly built computer."
on by ThomasLavoiePros I have not found any pros since It get blue screen every 1 hour even after 4 reformatings with the right Windows 7 CDs and the inability of Acer (Gateway) to fix it.
Cons -System 32: broken;
-Safe mode: broken;
-Blue screens;
-Corrupted files;
-Drivers broken;
-Windows kernel mode driver broken;
-Display driver broken;
-Motherboard fried;
-Fan: crazy refrigerator noise;
-Voltage problems;
-False advertisement.Summary I'm never buying a Gateway computer again (No acer either).
Gateway is seriously the worst piece of technology I've ever bought. I'll never buy a computer from Future Shop either.
Warranty: 1/10 (365 days of warranty, product broke at 360 days, I got "lucky")
Product: 1.5/10
Customer service: 4/10
Shipping fees: They had me pay 60$ to ship my computer to their repair plant. A computer is a 24 pound large box. They are unable to repair my computer. They also asked me to buy bubble wrap from walmart (10$).
Cost of "not being able to fix this piece of crap": 60$ + 10$ + DuctTape + Car fuel + Time + No computer for 2 weeks + 4 reformating of Windows 7 + 22 hours of transfering files to an external 1TB hard drive.
F**k Gateway!
This is the message I got from Gateway/Acer:
"Dear Customer: Case ID: XXXXXXXU Product: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX ; DX4850-45C W7HP64/I7-2600/8G/1TB/GT420 1 Your computer has been repaired and has been prepared for shipment. You will receive another eMail containing the shipping tracking number. Sincerely yours. Acer Service Repair Center http://www.acer.com/"
Guess what!? They didn't actually fix it! -
