  • "Overall very nice machine; little things are vexing"
    on by hgoldman77

Pros I had an HP circa 2002 with wheezing processor, 785MB ram and 80G harddrive; served me well, but obsolete. SX2840 is lightyears beyond that, so for me, it's empowering, exhilarating, to work on. Upgraded 20" monitor helps too.

Cons Cord linking keyboard and processor shockingly, annoyingly 3' short, forcing me to buy an extension UBS line. Obnoxious. Tech support on phone and online difficult. The installed MS Office software doesn't seem as robust as what you get on the disc.

Summary I worry about tech support service if I need it, which is a serious issue for Acer if it wants to compete with the bigboys. The issue with the cable from the keyboard being too short to connect to the processor is annoying to the point where it could disqualify them from consideration next time around. It's small but it betrays an attitude. Same with the installed software. It's adequate, I'm sure it can be upgraded and updated on the web, but it would be nice to see premium OFFICE software installed, particularly for those operators who need to install MACROS.

On the plus side it's the best bargain in terms of most computer memory, storage, processing power for the money. You can't beat the price. It's quiet, for the most part. Powerful, able to run several programs quickly at the same time. Hardware functions well with it, and it recognizes a lot of hardware like webcams or external drives or photo stuff without requiring driver installation. I bought the machine because I felt it gave me the most machine for the money. If it performs for half the life of my previous HP machine I will consider it a good buy.

Believe it or not, my computer didn't come with a serial number. It doesn't appear on the invoice with my order either. I can't contact Gateway support because it requires the Serial Number. Gateway Support is outrageously difficult. Don't buy a Gateway computer.

  • "The computer is almost perfect!"
    on by c0r8377

Pros With the 6 GB of RAM and top-notch capabilities, you couldn't go wrong with this model. I primarily use the internet, though this computer has taken anything that I've thrown at it, including a number of newer computer games.

Cons The video card options are limited due to the small tower. Games such as C&C 3 and Medieval 2 appear tend to lag when larger amounts of units are active. I've found that due to this limit, I couldn't upgrade to full capabilities for these games.

Summary The computer is perfect for almost anybody. Just remember that if you're a gamer, especially on a game like Crysis, I would avoid this computer as the graphics card capabilities will not allow for the game to be smoothly played.

  • "Everything I thought it would be."
    on by wutanger

Pros small form pc, Intel I3, Windows 7, DDR3 memory, lots of various connection imputs.

Cons bloatware, doesn't want to pay for internet service.

Summary First day I've owned this computer and let me say it does all my work with ease. Thought about getting something faster, but this little guys can handle what I need done. Great Product

  • "Quaint little media center for the budget-minded."
    on by FWKnight

    Pros Speedy, quiet, unintrusive styling

    Cons Graphics chipset is w-e-a-k.

Summary This rig is compact and performs well given its highly attractive price point. However, if your looking at this as a dedicated media device (thank you for putting this up right after Intel's WiDi <==junk) it does lack in the graphics area. If this is being hooked up to anything over 32" the memory is simply too skimpy. The HDMI out standard is nice as well as the processor, if you can muster the cash for a graphics upgrade you'll be much more pleased. You can get any number of 256 or even 512MB cards for under $100 (pricewatch). That done, hook it back up and enjoy!

  • "Doesn't deserve any positive reviews"
    on by MOM2GEMS

Pros none... gateway reps are nice but of no help to fix in warranty repairs

Cons the review that led me to buy this piece of junk
I have been fustrated beyond repair at how poor the workmanship on this pc is - opitical dvd drive stuck and then broke. moniter bleeps off intermitently. hard drive spins and thinks 100x longer than it

Summary never ever ever buy a gateway
