"Best in the market" on by nilesh23
Pros: high speed, vista home premium
Cons: trying to find one
Summary: It gives a smooth start, without noticeable fan noise. My laptop recently broke and wanted to buy a sturdy system...searched on the net for a system of the same configuration, though it is priced high on HP website, i bought it at $850 at circuit city. Cudnt find cheaper than that anywhere else...neither on DELL...
As far as perfornamce goes, i give a 10 till now...havent tried the lightscribe yet, but DVD/CD burning works great...has total of 7 USB ports, 9 card reader slots...
just one thing i expect that they shud have TV tuner inbuilt in it...CNET has something personal against it that they have rated it so low...
overall it works great with my 22" HP2207 LCD monitor... -
"Ranking seems a litle low" on by charford
Pros: 2 GB Ram, Great processor, Great Price
Cons: No Decent Graphics Card
Summary: It really is hard to beat this deal. I picked up this computer with a 22 inch monitor and a printer from Circuit City for about $1030. For the money that is basically unbeatable. The next step up was the HP m7747c with a E6400 processor, 2 GB Ram, Upgraded graphics card, All the media center connections, and a second dvd drive- which is alot more computer but it has a price tag of $1500 with a 22 inch monitor and wireless keyboard and mouse at Sam's Club. If you are looking to save a little on some of the extra features then this is a good deal. It is about 500 dollars cheaper and all it really needs is an added graphics card.

"Why the downgrade?" on by Case Ace
Pros: bigger hard drive than a1640n
Cons: CNET does not recommend
Summary: I'm confused... CNET rated what appeared to be to be a slightly lesser equiped HP a1640n system 7.8 Although that Very Good rating was given 5 months ago, how is a Not Recommended 5.3 rating justified on this similiar computer?
the a1640n is discontinued. Best Buy is offering the 1740 with a with 17" LCD Monitor, Printer, Cable & Surge Protector for $1039.
Seems like a wild opinion swing to me. -
"good for the price" on by APL17
Pros: good processor, more than enough ram
Cons: graphics card
Summary: i think cnet was hard on this system. it ain't amazing, but it comes with a 1.86GHZ x2 processor from intel and 2 gigs of ram, for $700 and running vista home premium that's pretty decent. just wish the graphics card was better. --APL

"Solid Performance, good HD space, enough RAM right off the bat" on by ArashFarah
Pros: Solid Power for price. Core 2 Duo processer has better Cache than AMD X2. The front side is not that much different than AMD.
Cons: No Video Card and wheel mouse (hate that) and 4GIG max ram
Summary: I like the computer for the price and the power. Fry's had a $50.00 rebate for it. Since I make amateur videos of kids, I like to processor to be strong with enough RAM. I had to purchase a 256MB video card--7600 GT to help with video editing. It comes with Vista Home Premium and that is a resource hog so I recommend buying a video card. You can funciton without it, but if you decide to run Adobe Photoshop, In desig, Premiere and so forth, the video card will help. The other thing that I wish it had was more RAM capacity. 4 GIG is fine for now but I bet that in 4 years from now, that will become standard and then the system becomes old too quick.
SOlid for the price for people on a budget needing a little more power.
