Pros Fairly satified with this computer until the hard drive died.
Cons Missed the warranty by a month. HP would not honor replacement of the known defective hard drive. Segate ST37500630AS.
Summary If you Google this hard drive there are other horror stories. HP installed this hard drive in a bunch of their computers and bear a greater responsibility to their customers who purchased these computers. The customerservice is buy another hard drive for $270....sick. Especially when a terabyte can be had for $100. HP lost a customer. back up your data if you have a HP....
Pros This computer has a lot of power and works really smooth. I play a few MMORPG's and I do not have any issues with lag nor any problems with the computer not being able to keep up with the games and then some.
Cons The only software this computer comes loaded with is Vista.
The extra PCI Express slot faces the bottom of the case and is unusable without some type of adapter.
The personal media drive bay cannot be used with a case not shipped with the computer.
Summary The computer for its price is very nice, as long as the consumer realizes that the computer does not come with built in software other than windows and a few demo or try before you buy programs, nor is the computers upgradability as good as HP makes it seem with its advertisement of this unit.
If the consumer does not want to worry about any upgrades and is willing to utilize only a hardwire ethernet connectivity instead of wireless then this computer is a very good deal. If the consumer, however, wants to be able to upgrade the computer to their satisfaction and/or utilize wireless functionality then the consumer needs to realize that this computer is not as user friendly as it may seem. The consumer will have to purchase a USB wireless adapter and not a card that goes inside the computer which is in my opinion a better way to utilize wireless connectivity.
As for the computer itself, this is really a powerhouse in disguise. I am able to run several programs at once including video, gaming, and playing MP3's, while at the same time having internet explorer open with several tabs looking at several different sites and downloading multiple filles such as program upgrades, security patches, and game patches all while playing a game online with no difficulty in the computer keeping up with everything going on.
All in all for the price and functionality this computer is a very good buy, especiallly for the average user. For the more serious computer users out there, this computer may leave you disappointed in a lot of ways as far as upgrading and maximizing items usage like harddrives and CD/DVD/BlueRay. Having only one DVD drive is a bad option, although there is one extra slot to put another drive into the computer.
The amount of RAM along with the Computing power of the AMD Phenom X4 processor takes this computer to an excellent level of abilities with a price that makes it more reasonable for the average user to still afford. A nice computer, a good price and a workhorse when you need one.
Pros Very fast QUAD processor + 5GB RAM
Cons Power supply is too weak. Update the power supply when you can.
Summary When I first got the system it would lock up and freeze intermittenly either during boot-up, at the login screen, or while browsing the web. At first I thought it was the VISTA operating system or a hardware issue. After speaking with HP Support I found out that the BIOS needed updating. I haven't experienced any lockups, or freezing since updating the BIOS. Also, change your power saving setting to "High Performance" in the control panel.
Pros This machine screams!!
Cons Power supply is weak (300W). Video card is pathetic. Vista crashes once a day.
Summary How I fixed this was to replace power supply with 700W, rip out video card and replace with better card. Also install Windows XP for stability. Now I have a killer machine!!
Pros Vista 64-bit, 5GB RAM & 750GB internal drive out of the box
Cons Graphics card leaves a lot to be desired
Summary Upgrade the graphics card and power supply, and add RAM to 8GB, this system has many years of usefullness
