"Terrible - A disaster -"
Pros: Features... Are catchy
Cons: From the cramped minitower to there not being CD's.. this is a disaster
Summary: If you buy this from a store and its defective HP wont help you,, The store will tell you to go to HP. HP isnt as nice as they used to be. Even the extended warranties wont guarantee a replacement. Alot of flaws... Even the instructions are not custom for this model only for the general media center PCs. Therefore alot of the instructions are confusing. Im an etusiast and need guidance in putting the media center together.. With the instructions ,, they list ports that arent there... it says if you have this plug,, or this plug.. I still dont know if i set it up right,,, HP will put you on hold.. and Circuit City wants to charge for installation... I had to return a unite.. and got this exact one... they are both supposed to be identical but they ran differently at set up.. the sound stopped working .. and had to get help from Tech waiting for an hour.. someone from India who i could barely understand.. and for every step they put me on hold and that took another hour... Im sorry to go on.. because I love my HP printers.. I think the computers are a different division.. they used to be customer freindly,,, now its someone from India who has a deep accent. I called several times.. and each time i had the same problem of understanding the accent... A 1,500 media center PC that doesnt come with speakers ??????????????? They try and sell you speakers and software when u call for tech support..... You get works without Word... Also the technichians get commisions for selling u stuff.. so they kept pushing products.. Finally after 5 days of problems.. and making me open the PC.. they told me its defective! ... They made me go inside the case.. where the ram is unreachable.. took me an hour to take it out.. so they can reset the motherboard... So they told me to bring it back to CIrcuit City.. Cirtcuit city saw that the back had been opened and didnt want to take it back.. HP wouldnt replace it because I bought it at Circuit City... Lastly.. u cant even protect yourself like you used to all the extended warranties.. are price at 25% - 40% of the product.. and noone will guarantee a new unit unless its been checked and in other words your paying that kind of cash and are getting less and less... Just like there are no Windows vista Cd's// they have it on the harddrive... U have to request it.. then they send. it.. that another hour or two on the phone... THis was a nightmare.... I got the replacement.. it seems to work fine.. I guess I got one of the first ones.. There printters are the pollar opposite... they are perfect.. The answer here is that HP isnt a good company to buy computers from.. Right now I would say Gateway all the way... DP

You're right on this one. About 8 years ago, my brother bought me an HP 3200 Scanjet Scanner to complement my Compaq Presario 350-Mhz computer he had purchased me earlier in the year. As I was installing the scanner, a message popped up stating that there was a virus on the install disc. Well, as you would know it, my pc messed up. I was sent to Compaq who sent me back to HP and vice-versa. It was placed in the shop, twice and it never did get fixed. HP didn't say I'm sorry or here is some gift certificates or hear is a replacement pc for your trouble.
They didn't care. My brother wound up buying me another after a year...an HP Pavilion 733-MHZ which wound up getting replaced, but I didn't have to jump through hoops to get decent service this time. Maybe my name is on file from where I showed my butt before concerning the scanner and they felt like they owed me one.
Now, I'm in the market for another, and since I'm not paying for it, I guess it will be another HP. I would prefer a Gateway like you said. Thanks for the tip.
