    "IBuyPower gaming PC's"

by PayneMI on September 26, 2007

    Pros: Works, thats about it.

Cons: Bad build, cheap parts, horrible customer service

Summary: First off let me say that I've been building PC's since a 386 was considered top of the line. After years of building and upgrading I finally decided to buy one out of the box because I'm sick of doing it myself. I've seen IBuyPower in PC gamer and decided to give them a try.

Now I know why I build them myself.

Right off the bat I notice the power supply was wrong. I ordered a 600w and received a 480w instead. Not just any 480w but the cheapest power supply I've ever seen. The thing wasnt fit enough to power a toaster. The cpu cooler I choose was assembled in the wrong direction. The system I ordered was configured for overclocking so I went with a silent tower cpu cooler. They placed the fan on the cooler 1/2" away from the case fan exhausting air out so I have 2 fans blowing air in the opposite direction 1/2" from each other. The 20$ fee for professional case wiring amounted to nothing more than few wire ties. Now for the biggest issue. I went with a quad core cpu with an evga 680I mother board. The mother board they used has had known issues overclocking quad core cpu's. Why on earth would you offer thermal solutions for overclocking and then use a motherboard that is incompatible. They also charged me 50$ more for the EVGA NF63 board that sells for the same price on Tigerdirect as there default Asus P5N-E. The right board, NF68 sells for 50 more so asumed I was getting the better board. When I called customer service to see about getting a motherboard replacement the rep had the nerve to yell at me for not calling and talking to a sales rep. It was my fault for not calling? Sorry for using the online order form. I had no idea I was really supose to call customer service. And excuse me for assuming they knew what they were doing. Also if you have questions for them don't bother sending them an email. Out of the three I did send them during the order process not one was ever answered.

Bottom line. If your looking for a cheap PC and have absolutely no clue what your doing with one. Buy it, You'd probably never know the difference. If your serious about your pc look elsewhere or build it yourself. I would never buy from them again.

One other note. After reading some of the horror stories from people trying to get there money back from them I decided to keep it and replace the mb myself. Luckily EVGA (they know customer service) is stepping up my motherboard for a small fee.

Overall the sytem runs well. The quadcore along with my 8800 GTS runs great. I just cant overclock it. Yet!
