"Why use a high heat CPU"
Pros: Well, it apparently works
Cons: Ridiculous design choice
Summary: Why in the world would you use a hot running Pentium 4 in box like this instead of a low power Opteron? It could have weighed 20 pounds less and have been far more suitable for the kind of limited ventilation cabinets that units like this get put into.

Well...it sorta looks like my old Mark Levinson power amp. That MUST count for something, doesn't it?
The P4 is pretty good with multimedia content (about the ONLY thing that it consistently scores better on against AMD), and they're relatively cheap. Depending on vaned heat sinks wouldn't be MY first option for dissappating heat, but amp and audio manufacturers have been doing this since the beginning of time; and I'd gather that what seems to be a relatively huge enclosure probably takes this design consideration into account as well.
Plus, did I mention it looks like an old amp I used to use? -
...they could have used a Pentium M which actually blows the doors off both the P4 and Opteron AND hardly uses any juice.
