"Nobody knows how to fix them."
Pros: 1. Fast, XP OS stable crashes very seldom, built in wireless LAN, built in fax modem, 6 USB2 connections.
2. One at home & kids love to watch TV on it.
3. One at my business for 4 yrs as a server for 3 other comps & its fast & reliable.Cons: 1. Sony stuff is usually PRICEY, in my opinion.
Summary: I would NOT buy another Sony desk top because I COULD'T FIND A TECH FAMILIAR WITH THEM. I bought 2 identical computers at the same time, one for my home and one for my office. The one at my office has run flawlessly for 4 years. I never turn it off. But, I started having a lot of different kinds of Problems with the home one as soon as its warranty had expired. Sony was no help when I called them & emailed them. I run a small business and have owned plenty of computers over the years and I expect them to be reliable and easy to fix. I don't have time to tinker with them. The computer repair techs we took it to, made problems worse until it wouldn't run at all, it wouln't even boot. I took to different Techs that all had certificates on the wall that they were certified Sony techs, but the honest ones told me that even after contacting Sony thru their tech channels, THEY DIDN'T HAVE A CLUE what was wrong with it. One company told me that the mother board had to be replaced and that would cost me $500 for parts and labor. I'm not that stupid and was going to junk the computer, when my oldest son, a computer geek, came home from college on vacation. He wanted to try to fix it himself. Honestly, the only way we got the one we had at home fixed properly is that my soon spent countless hours of his time tinkering with it. He took the home computer to the office and formated the HD in the home one and then transferred the data from the office HD to the home HD until he got the home one up and running again. It wasn't easy because it didn't respond immediately, but through a lot of time and patience and trail and error, my son got it running. The Home one runs good now. It didn't need a mother board. My son said he thought the BIOS had some how gotten corrupted. If I didn't have a computer nerd for a son, and an identical computer at my office, I would have had to junk the home one.
2. I was disappointed in the software to make DVD's. I couldn't get them to play on DVD player, only in the computer.
3. The one at my home broke down a lot & I COULD'T FIND A TECH FAMILIAR WITH THEM.
I regret buying a Sony desk top, becuase it is not a brand that people know how to fix. Next time I will buy a very common brand like Dell or HP so that it will be easily repaired.
