"Don't try to upgrade to MCE 2005" on
Pros: Easy to use, able to record TV shows & burn to DVD, which was what I wanted most. I've also had no problems with crashes, which were constant on my old Gateway w/ Windows 98 (due to the OS, not the computer). Also much faster than my old one.
Cons: While I did get somewhat of a deal by buying it on sale, only 6 months after paying way too much for the system, Microsoft came out w/ MCE 2005. Sony refuses to make this compatible with systems that it has already sold. So, I'm stuck with an outdated sy

"Best computer I've ever owned (since '89)" on by kmcnulty
Pros: Very quiet. Sits on desk with monitor and I cannot hear it.
Cons: Absolutely none
Summary: Very fast. Very quiet. Looks great. I am a power user and this thing has not failed or disappointed me yet. Would I buy another one? Absolutely. I hope Sony continues to make VAIO desktops. I'd certainly buy another if they continue to build machines of this quality. kdm

"Sony's Cutting Edge Technology needs a little tweaking" on by lakephillip
Pros: Incredibly Quiet, Incredibly Fast, Incredibly Sharp
Cons: Immediatley Upgrade Video Card to 256 mb; Add at least 512 Mb Ram
Summary: Honestly I purchased this computer primarily for the design and liquid cooling. I was really interested in how quiet this computer was. I purchased my computer in Sept '04, and the new MCE 2005 models showed up one month later. This hasn't bee as big an issue for me, because I prefer the WMP 9 over WPM 10 which comes with the MCE 2005. However reviews I have read regarding the MCE 2005 have said that the PVR function is much better in this edition, with brighter clearer picture. Really when you get down to it the MCE 2004 editions were actually 2002 editions with several patches, and Sony didn't think anyone was watching. But we are and they have promised an update. Originally was suppose to be available at the end of Feb '05. It has been postponed until end of March '05. I like Sony products because of their sturdy build. Sony computers I believe can be compared to Toyota vehicles. When upgrading your video card look for a 256 mb card w/o a fan. One of the main points about this computer is how quiet it is.
Bottom line is this computer is not a mass-merchandise product, and really is an investment computer because of the incredible processor, and quiet design.
Games have worked very well for me.
Overall I would probably purchase this computer again. -
