"High Potential Candidate - In Training"
Pros: Easy installation, fluid operation....
Cons: Competing applications (Sony vs. MSFT), 2 system restores in 2 months...
Summary: Overall, I've been impressed with this computer.
I was very pleased with the specs and able to get a slight bargain on the unit at CompUSA, just before leaving the USA for 3 years.
Prior to leaving, I had 40GB of music loaded onto the computer and have since added about 20GB of videos and/or photographs. With the 500GB hard-drive, the system has accepted all inputs with ease. I have had a challenge operating the dual applications as I'll explain.
From my novice point of view, I believe that MSFT's Windows MCE is designed to cry foul (do a Dennis Rodman), if the Sony video or audio applications are activated simultaneously. I say this because both times I've had the two applications running concurrently, the computer has crashed.
And, both times, it crashed, I had to reload all of my audio and video and photos becuase they are necessarily lost in a system restoration.
This is a problem. Granted, one should probably make an application decision at the beginning of a new computer relationship, but I was curious as to how far Sony had come with their own apps and, they have done well, not as well as MSFT's version....but the Sony brand shouldn't be penalized because MSFT doesn't like to run alongside competitive apps.
So, my final impression, after 2 months of operation is that Sony gets major credit for this very strongly spec'd unit (with implicit integrity) and MSFT has done a decent job with the MCE but for the problems it encounters if challenged to run along-side the Sony apps;
That's my take...
