"Buy only if you need cablecard and poor support" on by hs-works
Pros: futuristic design, nice keyboard with integrated mouse, one of a few Entertainment PCs with ATI cardbus tuners
Cons: Tuners are external and big, each with own power supply. Couldn't get both to work only one. No IR output for blaster cable inspite of the advertised specs. If you need to control an external box you are out of luck. Cardbus only!!
Summary: Worst experience yet with customer support. All of them are in India or Pakistan and all speak poor Englisg and have an attiitude. They argued with me over the existance of an IR port that wasn't there. The malfunctioning tuner out of the box was not sufficient to warrant a return. After several hours on the phone and numerous email exchnages I am shipping the unit back at my own expense hoping to recover my expenses from credit card through a dispute. From a customer support point of view alone this company SONY deserves no sales at all, so buyer be aware. Ever wondered why there is a near endless suppy of refurbished units?.

"A nice addition to anyone's living room!" on by fam8541
Pros: Looks good, performs well, allows for HD premium channel viewing and recording. What more can you ask for?
Cons: Price is a little steep, but worth it
Summary: I agree that Sony has overpriced this unit, but to accuse them of price gouging is a little dramatic. Included with the VGX-TP25E Home Theater PC, are duel CABLECARD readers that when configured properly, allow the viewing and recording of HD premium cable channels on a home theater PC. This in a nutshell is what you’re paying for, and I don’t mind paying a little extra to be the first guy on my block to accomplish this. The CABLECARD tuners are expensive, at $299 a piece, so when added to the total package, the $3000 price tag isn’t that extreme.
Along with some high-end hardware and useful software, the VGX-TP25E is just plain SEXY. If this puppy can’t get you a date, nothing will.

"Typical SONY gouging" on by wallywestflash
Pros: Functions well, ease of use
Cons: Lots of Yen
Summary: Typical SONY price-gouging...This company DOES make good equipment, especially in the TV market...there PCs, however, are nothing special and while they do always provide smaller, more unique form factors than any of the competition, in the end you're paying for something that looks cool, and in fact, you're paying quite a bit more for it. When one looks at the breakdown of the equipment therein, my guess is you could buy a DELL and build it yourself for $1000.
Reinvent yourself, SONY, quit w/the same old gouge, no one has money too waste, anymore and probably won't for a long time. -
"DRM At Work" on by webterractive
Pros: Esthetically Pleasing, Powerful, Does What Its Supposed To
Cons: Waaaayyy!!! Overpriced, Designed for DRM
Summary: This machine is designed for DRM control by allowing you only to record HD content on the tiny HDD that comes with. Software won't record HD content outside of PC.
