"BUYERS BEWARE!!! This computer is a very cool looking, yet completely unreliable piece of crap" on by craziestp

Pros: A great, inexpensive and fast system with an AMD processor and an awesome case

Cons: System and hardware is completely unreliable and is guaranteed to break in given time

Summary: First off, let me say that velocity has had some great computers in the past, I know. I've had some friends who had them. This is why I decided to buy the newer velocity. I went over to a local best buy, which carries velocities straight from the manufacturer and bought one. Immediately, when I brought it home, the computer began lagging on programs and blue screening. Eventually, the computer would not boot up at all. I took it back to best buy for repair and they told me that the faulty power supply fried all the memory on the motherboard. I exchanged the computer for another one (same model). When I brought this one home, it worked fine. The next day, however, the computer would not even recognize the graphics card. Once again I brought it in and the comp techs claimed that the PCI-Express on it was faulty and basically unusable and they'd have to replace the computer AGAIN. I returned the computer and got a full refund. After I got the refund, the techs told me these computers break CONSTANTLY and they always see them in for repairs!!! As I was leaving the store, funny enough, I saw another person bringing in a velocity for the techs...

My point: Velocity went cheap on us and while they're computers may inexpensive, and fast, they're completely unreliable. DO NOT BUY THESE SYSTEMS!

"My machine has never worked right. Do not buy from VM." on by corvusbds

Pros: Fast, system and good graphics, when it is working.

Cons: Constant component failures and system downtime.

Summary: By way of disclaimer, I had purcahsed a VM Gamers Edge in 2003 and it was rock solid and worked without problem for four years. Never needed tech support. It died in May of 07. It took three weeks for the replacement machine to show up. From the begining it was clear quality had declined. On start up there were error messages. The power would not turn off when Windows was shutdown. So much for burn in and QA before shiiping. Within two weeks I had display problems and within three the video card failed. It was replaced to be followed by critical system errors in XP. After I had to reload XP and reconfgure all systems, system failrues continued then hard drive failed by week 8. Ordered second hard drive to add RAID 1 to increase redundancy. Took almost two weeks for the right drives to show up. About three weeks later, motherboard started acting up. They sent out a new motherboard. On site technician swapped mother board, but did not reconfigure RAID 1 properly. Had to wipe system and re-configure RAID 1. Then had to reload and reconfigure software apps for third time. System ran ok for three weeks, then primary HD crashed. Aksed tech support about replacment PC: denied. Asked why so many components were failing: I was "unlucky." A week later display screwed up again, screen unreadable. Replacement hard drive nowhere in sight. Called to ask about new machine. Only offered to send out a replacement video card. Asked about replacement hard drive. Got tracking number, it won't show up for three more days. Asked to speak with customer service manager. Manager refused to speak with me. This company no longer provides the quality systems and customer service that it built its repuation on. Go somewhere else if you need a reliable PC backed by a company that stands behind its machines.

"Still Waiting for my System; 2 weeks overdue and counting" on by sushih

Pros: Great selection and customization of high end components

Cons: Unfortunately, high-end components are back-ordered, delaying your order beyond their estimates

Summary: I'm still waiting for my computer. I'm currently 2 weeks overdue. While customer service is nice, i've still checked in regularly with them the entire 2 weeks. Looks like i'll have to call them again next week, as another estimate has lapsed. They don't really stock any accessories, and some high-end components may be on backorder. Unfortunately for you, they will not assemble until all parts are ready (even if its an external accessory like ethernet cables). I would talk about the PC, although it's 2 weeks overdue. And all the while, i've been watching some of the prices go down- I could have ordered the same machine 2-3 weeks later and saved $700, and still have been at the same place.
