"Excellent quality and functionality at a premium price."
4.5 starson by Dave DugalPros: Beautiful sound quality. Easy to install and use. Elegant enclosure.
Cons: A bit on the expensive side.
Summary: After receiving the Squeezebox as a Christmas present, I was immediately impressed with the heft and finish of the unit. Powering the unit up, it immediately found my Wi-Fi network, prompted me for a WEP key and obtained an IP address.
I'm still fighting with the Windows-based audio file-serving software (perhaps 5000+ MP3s is too much), but the ability to stream Internet radio, Rhapsody, Pandora, Live365, and just about every streaming audio feed on the 'Net makes it worth the price of admission.
It has both coax and optical digital audio output as well as Burr-Brown DACs feeding a pair of RCA audio connectors. This is a high quality piece of audio equipment. The gloss black finish perfectly matches my Pioneer Elite HDTV and Sonus-Faber Grand Piano speakers, and the florescent display can be easily read from 12+ feet away.
Only the steep price tag keeps me from giving this unit a perfect 10/10.
