"More a request than a review"
Pros: Looks good
Cons: Looks good
Summary: Could someone please explain to the CNet reviewers of these devices the difference between playing file formats and being able to stream internet stations that use the formats. A player may be able to play local .WMA fiiles (useful) and play real audio files (whoop de doo) but still not support stations that stream .wma, or .ram or .smil. It's not hard to test this, just try streaming BBC radio, RTE radio and just about any US commercial station (eg Sacramento's KWOD) and the review would be so much more useful. Until these players can do this they're not adding much to the party that a $30 Linksys WMLS11B hasn't been doing for years.

Streaming some of the proprietary formats can be tricky - but there's already instructions to make those work with SqueezeCenter, and once you've done the tweaks it will handle it for all of your Squeezebox devices, so don't dis' the product just because you couldn't stream a station that doesn't use a more accepted open format and didn't research your problem.
And, FYI, my Squeezebox Boom streams BBC just fine. -
Exactly right. Also I wish there was more focus on the cost of this device and the fact that for this kind of money you could buy a system that could do all of this functionality and 100 things more. (i.e. a desktop) BTW, you can pick up a wmls11b for 30 or 40 bucks if you shop around.

This product will support BBC streams with a free community created plugin:

The above review is right on the point. Can someone actually comment if this thing will stream BBC or Turkish Radio for that matter. If it does not, the whole box is a waste of money. Linksys WMB54G and some others will actually remap any audio stream from PC to the Wireless end point.
